For the most part it is pretty useful for connecting your macbook to your hdtv. But I wish the one end of the cable fit a little more securely in my computer.

    Bridging two standards

We use these a lot with our 12" powerbooks, they haven't had any problems at all. However, a warning to those using DVI-based projectors - make *sure* to use a mini-DVI to DVI instead of DVI to VGA to the projector's DVI to VGA cable. This adapter cannot make heads or tails of a converted projector signal, only the original signal.

Works perfectly connecting 2009 Mini to Sony Bravia

I bought a 40" 1080p Sony Bravia television in anticipation of the Mac Mini refresh. Due to the delays I hooked up my G5 tower to be our media center in the meantime. It worked pretty well but the new setup is far better - the Sony Bravia works perfectly as a monitor for the new Mini via this connector. It's seamless.

Mine worked fine but began having problems within 6 months of purchase. The cable has poor connections; you get just certain colors unless you fiddle with it and get it into just the right position Poor quality; not very reliable.

There is only one mini-DVI adapter

Regarding the confusion about iBook compatibility, there is in fact only one type of mini-DVI port. The port that iBooks use is called mini-VGA, and there is a separate adapter that is labeled as such. There is no adapter labeled as mini-DVI that would actually fit an iBook.

    not full resolution

Beware if you're hooking up to a large monitor. According to the tech specs, the Macbook supports up to 1920x1200 on an external display. But buried in the manual it says this connector will only provide 1600x1200. Fortunately my monitor has inputs for both VGA and DVI, or I'd be angry!

I assume this is the one I have because it says 12 inch PB G4 in the description. Mine just recently, after more than two years, began to loose its connection. It has been indispensable to me for teaching and I am ordering a new one right now.

Works with Mac mini (Early 2009) too

This adapter works with the Mac mini (Early 2009), notwithstanding a claim to the contrary by another reviewer. My Pioneer plasma TV has a "PC" wide XGA (analog) port for connecting to a Mac or other personal computer. The Mac mini automatically recognized the available resolutions and color profile. The picture is beautiful. Couldn't ask for more.

Absolutely fantastic. The cord is just the right size and not too short at all. In this case, the shortness is great. I hooked this up from my Macbook to my 19" widescreen Acer monitor. It could not have been easier to set up. Just go to System Preferences > Display, and you're all set. Now with my Apple Remote, external hard drive, and Surround Sound, I have an awesome media center in my room. Thanks Apple!

I got this adapter so I could hook up my macbook to my hdtv. Everything works as advertised and I even tried seeing if I could output when booting in windows XP and I was pleasantly surprised to see there were no issues extending or mirroring the desktop onto the tv.

I got this product for my Macbook. I am gonna dual screen my Macbook to my 32" Samsung Tv. I suggest that everyone make sure what model your Mac is before purchasing any Mini Dvi Adapter. Because they are different Like with this one.

I bought this back in october and it permitted me to send my PC to junk and use my MacBook as a real desktop (bought keyboard and mouse as well) , Even when i go to my parents house, i just connect to a screen, keyboard and mouse (even M$ keyboards) an it just give a great feeling. Never had any problem.

Mini DVI to VGA Adapter works just fine with VGA connections. Apple only dropped connections to analog...ANALOG IS DEAD! AOK with digital. So it will work with any digital VGA monitor/display. If you are connecting to analog, then you will have problems.

So when I purchased this cord i had no doubt that I would be impressed, and I was! it was amazing it worked great and improved my computer use so much! But however I noticed one thing that could be easily fixed, I found that the mini DVI side of the cord easily fell out or got disconnected, this resulted in the displays having to reset, which does not take long but can be a bother. So make sure that your cord is in there nice and tightly and not in a awkward position.

Other that than it was a amazing product!

    Vague product description

    • Written by from San Diego

62 of 82 people found this useful

Apple failed to accurately describe which of its computers will actually fit this cable. So even though the description said it would work with "macbooks", the cable does NOT fit into my MacBook Pro. Apparently all the genius's at Apple thought their customers would get that. Way to go Apple. Now I am in Iraq with a useless cable that took a month to get here. Thanks a lot guys. Maybe I'll get the right one by the end of my deployment after I cycle through the hundred or so cable options with overly vague descriptions. Apple: FAIL.

I bought this adapter some time ago for my MacBook (white, 2007) and it worked flawlessly.
Then I bought a new Mac Mini (2009) and it didn't work. After some googling I found that Apple had dropped support for analog signals in the mini-DVI port.
    Very bad.

Cable should last longer than 1 month

Hi, I have used this cable a handful of times, (with my 13-inch Macbook) on a Sharp projector, to have the biggest movie screen around. I was with a large group last night and the thing just wouldn't work. Thankfully there was a (gulp) Dell around that had a VGA output so I wasn't completely stranded. Maybe I can get my money back... It worked great, for 3 weeks. Not what I expected from Mac.

    Won't fit ibook

Remember, that the ibook does not have a mini-dvi port, it actually has a mini-VGA port (different adapter), so this will not fit it. I made this mistake when I first tried to hook up an ext. monitor..

I use the adapter to connect a macbook to multimedia projectors at schools where I do presentations on the landmine and cluster munition issues. I've been using it for close to a year and have not had any problems.

    mini DVI to VGA adapter

I have a widescreen 20' ultrasharp Dell monitor and wanted to connect my new MacBook to it. The adapter works perfectly, but I have to say it took a bit of looking around to actually set it up via system preferences. I wish though the adapter came with my MacBook. It costs 29$CAD plus taxes. I love Apple products, but sometimes wish there were more more deals on them, especially for students.
