    Works great, but poor connection.

    • Written by from Wayne

I use this often to connect my MacBook to my other monitor. The product works great and I've never had a problem getting it to display everything properly on my other monitor. However, the connection from the "Mini DVI to VGA Adapter" to my MacBooks Mini DVI port is very poor (it's a loose connection)...it can easily be knocked or pulled out. I just wish Apple would have made the connection more solid, other than that it works great.

    Keeps falling out

    • Written by from New york

The adapter falls out of my macbook port at the slightest move! I can hardly work because the monitor keeps loosing the connection (twice already since I started writing this review), and it takes about 3-4 seconds to reconnect each time.

    faulty

at the start there were no problems, now my screen looks like a shortwave radio signal and this only happens on Mac OSX. It does not do it on the Windows partition on the same computer

    good quality

I don't know what some people do with their adapter cables , I've had mine for years and it's still works just fine , it is a good quality cable and connector and should last the lifetime of your Mac or definitely longer

    Awesome!

Bought this to use in my classroom along side my 13 inch MacBook. Works great hooked up to my projector or my monitor. I knew exactly what it could and couldn't do before I bought it. If you're looking to transfer picture, this is what you need but don't complain when it doesn't transfer sound, that's NOT what it's made for. MADE FOR VISUAL TRANSFER ONLY!
    Hope this helps. :)

    Poor quality

    • Written by from vashon

Mac cables and connectors are definitely the "weak link" for Apple, and this is no exception. My Mini DVI/VGA adapter lasted about half a year with very occasional use, mostly at my office desk. Wires became loose, and VGA screen started shifting colors then not connecting at all. Apple should be able to do better, especially at these inflated prices.

Works well, does what it describes.

Not the cheapest adapter in the world, but seems to work fine for me. Had no problems hooking up to my Samsung monitor. No issues whatsoever.

    Apple Quality - ???

    • Written by

I bought this adapter shortly after purchasing my MacBook - after rarely using it for less than 2 years the product is finished - it shorts out, causing the monitor or projector to flash or not show certain colors.
The fact that this adapter has to be purchased to essentially make the Mac useful with anything VGA is an annoyance in itself - what a money grab!
And then to have it built so poorly that, after 18 months it needs replacement, is a real irritation.
This is my first Mac and, if the poor quality of the computer and adapter is any indication, it will also be my last.
    Talk about overpriced trash!

    Mini-dvi to vga adapter

    • Written by from BOXFORD

The adapters work great - for a while. Then they need to be replaced. I work in a school where every classroom has a presentation system, so these adapters are constantly in use. I wish apple would not change the adapter port with each new incarnation of their ibooks, macbooks, etc. It creates havoc for those of us who manage a large inventory of machines and parts. (The battery connectors change as well.)
I have found that with a lot of use, these connectors need to be replaced at least annually, and sometimes even more frequently.

    great with Dell Monitor

    • Written by from Aptos

I like this adapter. It so far has given me the best resolution on a Dell U3011 30-inch monitor of 2048 x 1280 @ 60 Hz. (I have a mid-2008 MacBookPro laptop)

I'm still looking for an adapter to get the max resolution out of that monitor.

    Great price, great product.

I also just connected it and it worked. The only thing I had to do was to reset the resolution and refresh rate as Snow Leopard seemed to have some inbuilt defaults.

Cant get it to display to TV

    • Written by from Wading River

I have a 2009 Macbook 5,2 and I have been trying for some time now to get this Mini DVI adapter to send a signal to my TV. I have tried connecting it both through S Video and VGA. Can anyone help me figure out if there is a way to make this work? I have spent $50 on cables already and gotten no closer to being able to use my TV as a display for my laptop. Thanks!

Imac 24" Early 2008 - Apple Never Made the Mini-DVI to HDMI adapter

    • Written by from Montreal

I spent lots of time trying to figure out how to connect my IMac 24" (Early 2008 - 3.06 dual) to my HDTV.

I found out that I needed a mini-dvi to HDMI adapter.Apple never made this item because they discontinued the connection in the back of this IMac model in 10 months! I finally bought 2 from Hong Kong, and 1 worked for a milli-second!

I spend endless amounts of time in the Apple forums to see if anyone could figure out the problem.I also went to my local Apple store. The technician didn't have the Mini-DVI to HDMI adapter (since Apple never made them!), so he tried a mini-DVI to VGA adapter attached via an extension to a second Apple laptop. That worked!

Bottom line - I now need to buy a retrograde adapter (mini-DVI to VVA adapter to attach to my IMac, and then a extension wire to connect to my HDTV. By the way, there is no sound in this connection!

So if you also have an Early 2008 Imac 24" (Probably the same for the smaller sized models) , be forewarned.

There is only one mini-DVI adapter

    • Written by from Springfield

Regarding the confusion about iBook compatibility, there is in fact only one type of mini-DVI port. The port that iBooks use is called mini-VGA, and there is a separate adapter that is labeled as such. There is no adapter labeled as mini-DVI that would actually fit an iBook.

    It works great

    • Written by from Sacramento

I have had no issues with it and it works great. I absolutely love it and it works with our iMac, MacBook and my mom's PowerBook.

Please keep in mind that the new MacBooks will not work with this device.

    um????????fail!

    • Written by from Ithaca

Ok so about a month ago I really really wanted to play my wii in my room. So I figured out how much money I had so i could buy a tv for my room. Then I asked my mom if I could buy it and she was like "no absolutely not!!!" So i looked around trying to find other ways to get my wii in my bedroom and I finally realized I could do it on my macbook pro. So I bought the converter box but that needs a VGA to mac adapter (FAIL). And now I finally have that (this thing) AND IT DOESNT FIT IN MY MACBOOK!!!!!!!!what the heck?????

    Works, and its affordable

    • Written by from Cincinnati

I just read a lot of bad reviews about this product. I just bought mac mini and macbpro. I have used it with the mac mini for 3 months now and it works fine. I used it with dell 15" flat screen and now with and old envision 16" box of a monitor and worked with both with no problems. I hope it continues to and think it will, don't know what goes on with those that say it doesn't work for them.

PLEASE READ THIS REVIEW, BEFORE YOU WASTE YOUR TIME & MONEY!!!

    • Written by from Seven Hills

The description for the product says, and I quote, "The Apple Mini-DVI to VGA Adapter is designed for use with the iMac (Intel Core Duo)...". Well I just went to plug the adapter it into my "iMac", and it's not the right end to plug it into my computer. Did I mention my brand new computer is a iMac with the Intel Core Duo processor. I even got the upgrade 3.33GHZ Intel Core Duo processor. Maybe the upgrade changed the port to a port that doesn't fit "Common" everyday ports!! My port is an elite port, so maybe I will have to pay extra for an adapter from Apple that will actually fit my stupid port!! What is this?? For supposedly such smart people, why in the world do you have different style ports for the same exact use? The pictures match up, but that is it. Maybe I'm reading the description wrong when it says, "USE WITH THE iMAC (INTEL CORE DUO)". It doesn't give exceptions to the description, does it?? DON'T THINK SO!!! I AM SO UPSET RIGHT NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
