Dual-head displays rock - especially on Mac!

    Written by MM from Groton

    Aug 21, 2005

I bought this to watch DVDs and other video on my television and it does that quite well, but what I'm loving right now is the ability to show photo slideshows on it. Using the screensaver which pulls from iPhoto Smart Albums, the system displays two different images from the set on each display making for a beautiful montage.

    Way to go!

works great, but is it practical?

    Written by JB from Whitby

When I first hooked it up to my MAC Mini, It displayed horizontal bands the screen. I switched the RCA cable to a monster cable and the banding was gone. While playing a Star Wars DVD, I noticed some pixilation in the image that doesn't appear when using a pure dvd player.

I connected it to a 14 year old Sanyo television and picture quality was ok, but not as good as a dedicated DVD player. I unfortunately like DVD Sound, so I can't see myself using this as a main DVD player. Some people have said the Mac Mini is good for use as a media centre, but if sound is important, then this won't be acceptable.

I have to agree with other comments, the text is barely readable using the composite connection. My TV doesn't have S-Video input and I susspect it would be a little bit better, but I can't say for certain.

I gave it a 4 star rating because it does what it says it can do, it just doesn't meet up to my personal visual and digital audio expectations.

I have a 12 in. powerbook with a mini dvi port on it. This is a different kind of plug in and it won't fit. I don't know what I should do because i still want an adapter. It would be great if I could use it though.

Won't feed TV coax or antenna connection

    Written by JH

    Dec 28, 2005

FYI, this Apple video adaptor won't work with older and/or cheaper TVs that have only a coax cable input or two screws for old flat TV antenna wire. For those TVs you'll need an RF modulator, available at Shack/Comp/Best/Circuit/etc. The pic quality using an RF modulator won't be as good as through this Apple connector.

if you have a powerbook 12" with mini DVI (the latest version) this think will just work like a charm. enjoy watching the office on my tv much more than on my laptop, much bigger screen, much less pixilation, as to be expected.

Ease of use = Fantastic Buy

Doing animation, I tired of having to build multiple copies of films simply to test out the TV range, for 4:3 and 16:9 ratio's, or hoping back and forth from one machine to another, when I could just do it all from the laptop.
This adapter is easy to use the moment you plu it in, and I have used it with a 32" and a 62" television, in both 4:3 aspect and 16:9. Apple nailed a home run on this small addition.

Nice Item, but it could have shipped free with 12" PowerBook

Written by NP from Hot Springs

    Apr 3, 2006

Nice item! Now my 12" PowerBook can handle just about every video format you throw at it. It would have been nice if they would have included it free with the PowerBook, but it was still worth the investment. I'm just grateful Apple gave me the other two adapters free & offered this one!

By the way, for those who couldn't get it to work with a Sony, I can see why. Why do you think I switched to an Apple? A computer from you know who. :-)

    accursed apple

    Written by OW from Welshpool

    Apr 17, 2006

both intel mac minis require different dvi to mac mini adaptors. I ordered the wrong one - got it all the way to egypt to discover it doesn't fit.
How can the difference between duo and single core effect the video out cable? Typical apple - every piece of hardware requires different connections.

Works Wonderful on 12PB, as described!!

    Written by JB from Kannapolis

    Apr 26, 2006

Works wonderful on my 12" Powerbook connecting TVs from my mini-DVI port on the laptop, which is what the item description says this cable is made for. Not sure why people are complaining about it not working with their Intel Macs, because is specifically states this is for the PPC 12" Powerbook.

So, if you have a 12" Powerbook that you need to connect to a TV for powerpoint presentations, to watch dvds, or anything else, this is what you need!! It's easy to set-up and use. Just remember to provide your own S-Video and Audio cables.

Don't be put off by low ratings from people who obviously didn't take the time to read.

just called apple and the part numbers are the same for the PB and new MB. ummm, of course the video is going to be less than stellar. you are converting digital down to analog. if you want digital to digital get yourself a nice TV with DVI port. silly kids LOL!
