Apple Mini-DVI to Video Adapter
Exactly what I wanted!

With this adapter and video cables I was able to cancel my cable TV service. Now anything I can pull up on the computer can be viewed on my TV. Awesome!
The only thing I would change is if they could have designed it so it doesn't unplug so easily when used with a laptop.34 of 35 people found this useful

My wife and I bought the same Macbook so we could use both our machines to watch Neflix movies on line, which finally came out for the Mac.
This works well on both machines. 13 inch black macbooks. Only once, when it came unplugged and I plugged it back in twice did it crash the machine. Haven't tried the S-Video port, but good to know it's there.12 of 16 people found this useful

Product is good quality and puts out good as long as you keep the resolution set high on your computer when its plug in. The sound is from your ear phone plugin to the red and white inputs jacks in your TV this work good. Anyone who uses this set-up shouldn't have a problem I think it's a good investment, buy it...

I had a problem where I was running my White Macbook through the Mini-DVI to Video Adapter, using an RCA cable (the yellow one), and only getting a black and white, low quality picture.
My solution was to go to the display options in my macbook's system preferences, and change the refresh rate from 60hz to 50hz. Voila, colour and good picture! I guess my TV is just really old. At first after solving that problem, however, I had some strange and annoying cascading black dots shimmying across the screen, but after 3 or 4 minutes of playing a film they disappeared.
Pretty cool product, although I reckon it should come with a RCA cable and S-video cable, rather than having to buy thm seperately.31 of 37 people found this useful

Works, but...

This works just the way it is supposed to but if you're thinking of watching streaming TV shows from major networks on your TV...you can't. ABC's player doesn't fit on a TV screen so you can't get click on the play button. NBC fullscreen fills the whole screen rather than presenting in widescreen on a TV. So, yes, it works the way it is supposed to, no problems there. Just don't think you'll be able to watch streaming shows.

I purchased this to connect my macbook to my LCD TV. It works fine. I did reset my display settings to 1280 x 800 and while it wasnt as perfectly crisp as my display, I am able to watch movies and presentations on my 47" LG. I spent some time pricing them on line and it turned out to be better just to walk into my Apple store. I do wish the cord was a bit longer and from what I've read, you really need to handle it carefully. But a happy purchase all in all!

Great for Video
Written by MD from DF

Its a great product for watching video on your TV. I bought it to watch Divx.
The quality of video on the TV is great, 8/10, depending of the video quality, of course; but the quality of the desktop and the all OSX en the TV is bad, 4/10, at least on my normal TV, i didnt try it on a plasma or lcd.
I had the same problem with my Powerbook Titanium G4, when those come with RCA output integred.16 of 24 people found this useful

works great so far

I began using this about a month ago along with a monster audio cable so that my kids could watch some movies I purchased on iTunes. I love it and can see almost no difference between dvds and movies through the mac. I haven't used the s video cable with it but I am sure will work the same. It feels a little cheap, but time will tell. I'll post another review in 6 months if I remember.

I bought this product to play my downloads on my 42" HD television. The image was great. I had to buy an audio cable and a video cable (which can be found anywhere and it's pretty cheap).
I am really happy with this purchase.98 of 158 people found this useful

A Little Short

This is a great product, but you have to admit the cord is kind of short. Sometimes I will hook it up with the tv in a hotel room if there is no DVD player, But I cannot find a place to put my Mac.

i couldn't live without this adapter!
Written by LR from Louisville
Feb 28, 2008
i initially bought this adapter to watch movies on my tv, but it has proved even more useful.
i've been able to introduce powerpoint and other multimedia projects into my classroom--my school is pretty low-tech, but all i need now is a tv.
i've been able to experiment with vjing at the parties i throw.
my only complaint with this product is that the connection is a bit wobbly. it's not so bad at home, but in a classroom or a club, things sometimes get bumped.
otherwise, i love it.

funny story
Written by JT from ottawa

hello mac friends
so i go to a retail store all excited to get my comp. hooked up for some t.v. viewing and i've been dealing with electronics and cables for a decade now. so i go in and i speak with the mac rep. at the store. "do you have a adapter for my t.v. and my mac", and yes she points me in the direction.. so i look and i had never seen this product before online or anywhere just went because i knew it must exist. so once i see the one that i know will work with the s-video and the video cable outlet. she asks me if i have a new t.v. with s-video and i say no i have a tube t.v. so she tells me well it won't work with that, but i already know that it will with the video cable, so i educated her on her own product that she is an expert on. and than she went and double checked with the t.v. department while i am already ready to leave the store, well by the end she still didn't think that it would work but i took it home and been havin a blast showin off my macbook and watchin movies and i love it.
also i never knew you could close the macbook while its connected, would be less distracting but i saw the review about not being able to get the screen back on so i think i will just keep it open.
i am using a y-cable to run my audio to my t.v. does anyone have a better idea or is that the best way?

Decent, but not very versatile.

Decent product, but don't plan on using it for much more than watching movies with front row. Even when I have my macbook display resolution set to 800 x 600 it's basically impossible to read text on my 27'' TV. A pretty pricey little accessory that doesn't do a whole lot.

Very Pleased
Written by DP from Augusta

After reading some of the reviews i was a little skeptical but the product is well worth it. Probably the 20 bucks i could have spent. If you use the right setting for your second display in the preferences menu (displays) the picture is actually really good, just make sure you readjust your mac's resolution back, or else everything will be all out of whack so to speak. So just play with it and you really enjoy this product.

Nice

I had some doubts after reading some of the reviews. Kinda blurry... agree ... but does what its suppose to do. Easy to set up... no need of instructions just plugs right in. And the only issue is sound... but all you need to do it buy a mp3 to stereo splitter that has audio plugs and plug them into your TV and into your headphones port on your apple.
Amazing Enjoying it. Apple screen will reset once unplugged.49 of 80 people found this useful

i had that same problem with my vaio. double-check that both devices (mac and tv) are set to ntsc. Also go into your video card's settings to check everything there. do the same with your tv's settings (check all video menus and configuration settings).
hope that helps!

Apple Mini-DVI to Video Adapter
Works with my 13.3" MacBook Intel
Written by WJ from Buffalo
Jul 13, 2006
I just picked this up to use with my MacBook Intel, so that I can hook into a large video display at a place where I teach.
I tested it at home on a small TV and it works fine. So far I've tested only the composite video output, since I don't have a display with an S-video input at home. Since I am in video production I know that an interlaced video image will never look as good as the image on a good computer monitor, especially if the image has thin lines in it where the interlace will dance. But this looks surprisingly good to me.
I looked at both photographs and DVD outputs and the quality is pretty good. Quality might suffer more with displays of graphics, especially of tables with horizontal and vertical lines, so to check this I fired up Excel to display a grid. Surprisingly, the fine lines that form the cels don't look too bad, though they'd look worse if the grid lines were darker. The print inside the cels is unreadable, but no one in their right mind would try to display such small print to an audience.
By the way, if you want to show DVDs, you'll have to use preferences to put the display into mirror mode.
So far looks like a good solution for me, and I'm anxious to test it on a large display with an S-video input.1271 of 1803 people found this useful
