Apple Mini-DVI to Video Adapter
A Little Short
Written by TB from Newton
Mar 2, 2008
This is a great product, but you have to admit the cord is kind of short. Sometimes I will hook it up with the tv in a hotel room if there is no DVD player, But I cannot find a place to put my Mac.

i couldn't live without this adapter!
Written by LR from Louisville
Feb 28, 2008
i initially bought this adapter to watch movies on my tv, but it has proved even more useful.
i've been able to introduce powerpoint and other multimedia projects into my classroom--my school is pretty low-tech, but all i need now is a tv.
i've been able to experiment with vjing at the parties i throw.
my only complaint with this product is that the connection is a bit wobbly. it's not so bad at home, but in a classroom or a club, things sometimes get bumped.
otherwise, i love it.

Adapter for Sound
Written by SS from DEKALB
Feb 1, 2008
I'm loving this product. It works really well for playing YouTube videos. Anyways, I was hoping someone could help me with the sound problem. I want the sound to come from the t.v. rather than the computer. What kind of an adapter would I purchase?

Strongly recommend for watching movies

It's great i have an older 19" t.v. and a 52" hd t.v. works great on both strongly recommend. The only thing i have to complain about is the length its tiny but if you have a long cable that'll do. You also have to play through the sound on the computer unless you have an adapter for your sound. I purchased one for 25 dollars. Its an amazing product and again strongly recommend

I bought this for my 20" Intel based iMac to connect to my very old (1990's old) Television through my stereo receiver. I even got an adapter for the sound. So far it works just great and has a surprisingly crisp and clear picture on the t.v. All I had to do was plug it in and adjust some of the video settings. I highly suggest this product.

Apple Mini-DVI to Video Adapter
funny story
Written by JT from ottawa

hello mac friends
so i go to a retail store all excited to get my comp. hooked up for some t.v. viewing and i've been dealing with electronics and cables for a decade now. so i go in and i speak with the mac rep. at the store. "do you have a adapter for my t.v. and my mac", and yes she points me in the direction.. so i look and i had never seen this product before online or anywhere just went because i knew it must exist. so once i see the one that i know will work with the s-video and the video cable outlet. she asks me if i have a new t.v. with s-video and i say no i have a tube t.v. so she tells me well it won't work with that, but i already know that it will with the video cable, so i educated her on her own product that she is an expert on. and than she went and double checked with the t.v. department while i am already ready to leave the store, well by the end she still didn't think that it would work but i took it home and been havin a blast showin off my macbook and watchin movies and i love it.
also i never knew you could close the macbook while its connected, would be less distracting but i saw the review about not being able to get the screen back on so i think i will just keep it open.
i am using a y-cable to run my audio to my t.v. does anyone have a better idea or is that the best way?

Apple Mini-DVI to Video Adapter
needs a list of compatibility
Written by TP from SAINT PETERSBURG

okay, so this is how it works out. macbooks made before late 2007 have a horrendous video card only capable of sporting a max 30in display. Apple recently updated the macbook with a "santa rosa" chipset, fitted a a much better video card and a new motherboard capable of addressing 4GB of ram. this update was released in late 2007. Needless to say, when i connected this to my 52in HD display-i was horrified at the quality. In conclusion, the product is great, but the older macbooks have very little use for this product. I cannot complain though-because apple did fix this issue with the updated macbooks.

Apple Mini-DVI to Video Adapter
Worth every penny
Written by CT from Plainfield

In a graduate instructional video production class, we all had to present our videos. The lab's computers were of questionable ability, and no one could play their DVD on the one computer that was hooked up to the multimedia equipment for that classroom. I brought out my macbook and this mini - DVI to Video Adapter, and hooked up some speakers to my audio - out jack, and walah! The class was able to watch my video through a projector via the video adapter. Everyone was impressed and I kept hearing "man I need a mac". Oh yeah, and I got an "A" on my video.

Decent, but not very versatile.
Written by TA from Tigard

Decent product, but don't plan on using it for much more than watching movies with front row. Even when I have my macbook display resolution set to 800 x 600 it's basically impossible to read text on my 27'' TV. A pretty pricey little accessory that doesn't do a whole lot.

Apple Mini-DVI to Video Adapter
Worth begging my parents

I just bought a MacBook early last month [Nov '07] in Malaysia and I bought this adapter last week. Connected it to my TV and it works well. Me and my family watched 2 movies with this adapter. The only thing is, you have to use good quality cable to connect this adapter to your TV or projector. Otherwise you have adjust the cable connection from tv to this adapter, but it will only take some time. Nevertheless, you also need to use a good quality and fully functioning TV to get the best result. Although it is not HD, I am very satisfied with this product and the support from Mac OS X Leopard installed on my MacBook. It produce quite sharp image on my TV.

I have a G4 and attached an S Video cable to this adapter as well as to my Sony Bravia LCD Flat Panel TV. The image is not coming up, it shows horizontal lines. I'm not sure what to do. Sony told me to use a cable that has S Video on one end and a VGA on the other end. I could not find this cable anywhere. I need help?

Maybe the best $20 I've ever spent.
Written by TH from Defiance

I bought this adapter to watch movies with my macbook. The computer's display is just too small for more than one or two people. This is exactly what I needed. I wasn't expecting HD or anything. If I wanted perfect video I would keep using dvd's or I would have bought an Apple tv. The quality is however very good.

Apple Mini-DVI to Video Adapter
Exactly what I Expected.
Written by ST from Vancouver
Oct 30, 2007
I have a Macbook. I read the reviews of others and I had no such problems. I don't have an LCD or even a newer television, just an old CRT. In fact the first TV I used this this adapter on didn't even have RCA inputs, leave alone S-Video, I had to go through my VCR. Nonetheless, the picture was excellent. More than met my expectations. As far as I can tell, the picture was not fuzzy at all. Picture is the same as my Macbook. Obviously, the resolution is not the same, but it's the best my TV can do.
I mainly use this for Movies or whatever else is on FrontRow. I just connect my Macbook via the adapter (most DVD players, AV receivers have front panel inputs), close the laptop (once the both screens are mirrored). Then use my remote. When you close the lid, the screen will go black. Press any button on the remote that comes with the Macbook, and it starts up again.
Some people might have problems with the Macbook closed. I did initially as well. The TRICK is to PAIR or SYNC your supplied remote to your laptop via systems preferences. I have no idea why this works. Another thing , you should be able to watch your movies in FrontRow that are in your movie folder. If it is working properly you should be able to see the preview screen. If you don't, then simply unplug the adapter and reboot your laptop and it should work.
One thing I couldn't figure out was how to get the screen to go back on when I opened the lid, after I had it playing in the lid closed mode.
Hope this helps in your buying decision. I am thrilled with this product.
Now I'm thinking of getting a USB DAC (two models: "Stereo Link 1200" and "Scott Nixon USB Tube DAC or USBTD") and hooking it up to my stereo. Supposedly, this allows your computer to send your music signal into your home stereo and completely bypass your soundcard for CD (or supposedly better) quality sound.
I hated computers before I got my Macbook. Now I'm on my way to being a full on geek....
