Works good with OSX but not with Windows in Boot Camp

    Written by JB from Austin

    Oct 9, 2008

Like several others I was very disappointed to find that this adapter did not work with Windows in Boot Camp. I really feel kind of scammed. I already had the adapter and was already a Netflix subscriber. The promise of getting to view movies on demand via Netflix thrilled me. There was nothing that indicated that this adapter would not work with my dual core Pentium chipset and my 13 inch Macbook. So, I went out and purchased Leopard just to get Boot Camp. I also purchased the latest version of Windows XP, I did not want to us Vista. I messed around with all sorts of video settings on the Windows side and all I get is either a blank screen or scrolling lines. Granted, this is an older set and I'm using the analog video out. I contact Apple about this and they said it was a Windows or Intel problem. I contacted Microsoft about this and they said it was an Apple or Intel problem. I contact Intel about this and all they had were idiotic stock answers and most of their support people were difficult to understand, no offense, due to very thick accents. The last I heard, over three months ago now, was they "escalated" it, whatever that means. Nobody seems to want to deal with this problem. It's about time somebody took responsibility. An alternative would be for Apple to provide approval for Netflix under Digital Rights Management. When is this going to happen?

    Piece of junk.

This worked great for about a month and today it just bombed out on me. The picture is suddenly dark, washed out in blues and blacks. $19 isn't an outrageous price unless I have to replace it every six weeks.

    Fragile!

    Written by JS

This adapter does what it promises but it is very fragile. I have gone through 2 in 2 years. I have learned to treat it very gently and to never bend the cord. When the picture starts to go it's time to order a new adapter. I would like to see this product improved because replacing it isn't cheap.

    Apple Mini-DVI to Video Adapter

    Written by BS

I purchased this to connect my macbook to my LCD TV. It works fine. I did reset my display settings to 1280 x 800 and while it wasnt as perfectly crisp as my display, I am able to watch movies and presentations on my 47" LG. I spent some time pricing them on line and it turned out to be better just to walk into my Apple store. I do wish the cord was a bit longer and from what I've read, you really need to handle it carefully. But a happy purchase all in all!

Might work for some, but not for me.

    Written by DP from Austin

I recently bought a 24" 3.06GHZ iMac and wanted to be able to connect a 2nd monitor. Went by the local Apple store to get an adapter. The salesperson directed me to this adapter after telling him the monitor I preferred to use was a Sharp TV/monitor. He said I'd get the best results from this adapter with an S-video cord.

I hooked it up and tried both analog and s-video, both were terrible resolution when viewing the desktop.

I mirrored the monitors and played a video. As others have noted, videos seem to play fine via this adapter.

However, if you want to connect a monitor to expand your desktop, this is a terrible solution. You can't read the screen at all and the resolution is a joke.

I wish the Apple store salesman would have actually known about what he was selling.

I'm going to take it back tomorrow and try the Mini-DVI to VGA adapter.

    Issue in quality on TV

I thought that I would be able to share my videos on the TV. Unfortunately, it's not as clear as it is on my Macbook. I don't know what the problem is. HD TV or s-video cable or this adapter???

    Great for Video

    Written by MD from DF

    Jul 28, 2008

Its a great product for watching video on your TV. I bought it to watch Divx.
The quality of video on the TV is great, 8/10, depending of the video quality, of course; but the quality of the desktop and the all OSX en the TV is bad, 4/10, at least on my normal TV, i didnt try it on a plasma or lcd.
I had the same problem with my Powerbook Titanium G4, when those come with RCA output integred.

    works great so far

I began using this about a month ago along with a monster audio cable so that my kids could watch some movies I purchased on iTunes. I love it and can see almost no difference between dvds and movies through the mac. I haven't used the s video cable with it but I am sure will work the same. It feels a little cheap, but time will tell. I'll post another review in 6 months if I remember.

    Image quality is awful!

    Written by CR from Toronto

    Jun 6, 2008

I used this to hook up my Macbook first to a projector and then to a widescreen HDTV using the yellow end of a composite cable (though I've heard that S-video isn't that much better) but the image quality was really bad in both cases. It didn't register the fullscreen or the entire resolution. It shrunk the resolution, so you had a pixelated image that was all warped because of the fullscreen not being registered, which looked especially bad on a fullscreen TV. I want to return it but I don't think they'll let me.

    Short life span

    Written by BS from CHICAGO

I purchased this, and it worked quite well for about 4 months. And then: it ceased working. So, if you depend on an item such as this for giving presentations, you have been warned. Also, I wish Apple would have gone nutso-wild and added an additional inch or two to the cable? I know -- that's crazy talk!

Of course, as usual apple will ignore this tiny detail.

I m Mac with stupid ports which require custom adapters which will not work with any other OS

But hey it looks cool. It just doesn't work

Plug and Play. Worked straight out of the package. The System Preferences were straight forward.
Works in the multiple ways i've used it.
One wish: An all in one. dvi, vga, composite, and S-video in one product. One less thing to carry would be great.

I bought this product to play my downloads on my 42" HD television. The image was great. I had to buy an audio cable and a video cable (which can be found anywhere and it's pretty cheap).
I am really happy with this purchase.

    Excellent, Excellent, Excellent

    Written by DI from Gansevoort

I purchased this adapter with the intention of viewing the screen of my Macbook on our non-HD TV so we could view our favorite TV shows, which we watch online exclusively, on our TV. We use the RCA connection and hook the Macbook up to our surround sound via the headphone or audio line out jack.
    IT WORKS GREAT!!!!!!!!!!!
Aside from pixels per square inch appearing to decrease on the Mac's monitor when I plug in the adapter, it works great. I navigate to the site I want to view the streaming video, then hit full screen view and the quality of the picture on the TV is between 90-95 % what it would be if I was watching the show on standard cable.

Be aware, your screen will go blank for a few seconds when you plug in the adapter so the Macbook can adjust itself. If you're not using a wide screen hi def tv, which I don't, the bottom of whatever window you open will likely suddenly be off the screen entirely. Don't panic, anticipate. Have the full screen view button for the online video in an area, where it will not go off the screen when you plug the adapter in.
I can't wait to plug this baby into a friend's hi def tv.

    NOT FOR MACBOOK AIR!

    Written by AD from Cambridge

Since some people were asking: This is a *MICRO* DVI to video adapter, not a *MINI* DVI to video adapter. Make sure you know if your Mac needs MICRO or MINI. They are not the same thing!

That said, it works just fine!

Wrong Adapter for a MacBook 13" 2.16.Ghz Intel Duo Core

    Written by GL from Rutherford

    Apr 10, 2008

I bought one adapter based on the picture above. Big Problem. The socket at the end of the short wire that goes into the side of the computer, is the wrong size/ configuration.
Why? WHY? WHY? I am waiting for a response or and explanation for the misleading information provided.
I'm out over $22.00 .. I wonder if apple cares enough to write back. At least lead me in the right direction. Is there a DVI-2 plug? 32 pin? Is it really Mini?
Apple, be kind and give me a call or write back.

Works great in OS X...Not for Windows

    Written by JB from Winooski

This cable is great is you want to play QuickTime movies in full-screen (well, close to it--there's always a black border) on your TV. However, it doesn't work at all if you're running Windows on your Intel Mac--a huge disappointment, considering you can only watch Netflix movies in Windows currently.
