Apple DVI to Video Adapter
DOES NOT WORK WITH MINI DISPLAY PORT DVI ADAPTER
Written by TB from Seattle
Dec 8, 2009
I wanted to have an s-video connection to my older TV. This does not work. I have pretty much wasted $20 just to find out. I hope this is a fair warning to any other sucker.

Apple DVI to Video Adapter
Doesn't work with mini display port macs
Written by EF from Orefield
Nov 7, 2009
I have a macbookpro with mini display port. Attached to that port is a min display port to dvi adapter from apple. Unknown to me was that this is a DVI-D output only. I connected the adapter above to the dvi out of the mpd-dvi adapter. Connected to a normal tv with s-video in, I get no display. This combination does not work, because the adapter shown above is a DVD-I input, not DVI-D.

Product description is a lie!
Written by ジシ from 越谷市

I tried to use this adapter with my brand-new Macbook Pro, and it wouldn't work. I tried to connect it to a mini displayport to DVI adapter, and there were some extra pins that didn't match. Apparently DVI doesn't always mean DVI to Apple. Because I can't use this adapter, which Apple Store employees told me to buy, my new MacBook Pro is useless to me for my work. Buyer beware!

What's WRONG?
Written by MN from Steinhausen
May 23, 2009
I just got the Apple DVI to Video Adapter together with my new MacMini! It doesn't fit to the Apple Mini DVI-DVI-Cable delivered with the MacMini. There are 4 small spikes next to the blade lead, which do not match the female cable that came with the MacMini.
Be carful with this Adapter.69 of 153 people found this useful

Should be clearly labeled "DVI-I Adapter"
Written by KJ from Grayslake
Jan 3, 2009
I wanted to use this adapter with any DVI cable expecting it is configured to be used with basic pin configuration. It turns out to be a DVI-I cable and is not compatible with the Mini display port to DVI adapter. If you are looking for an adapter for the new Macbook to get a DVI - S Video or RCA out, then this wont work.

Apple DVI to Video Adapter
Should be clearly labeled "DVI-I to Video Adapter"
Written by CA from Catonsville
Dec 3, 2008
I bought this adapter, hoping to hook up my new Macbook Pro to my TV, like I used to do so easily with my Powerbook G4 ... I already had the "Mini DisplayPort to DVI adapter", so I figured a "DVI to Video adapter" would get from "DVI" to "Video".
No such luck. It turns out that the DVI end of "Mini DisplayPort to DVI adapter" is DVI-D, but the DVI end of "DVI to Video adapter" id DVI-I, so it doesn't fit, it doesn't work.
I'm very disappointed, but also unhappy that I'll have to pay a restocking fee to return this (it's opened), when a more complete description would have saved me from ordering it in the first place.216 of 248 people found this useful

Video is fine but good luck getting audio.
Written by GA from Winnipeg
Sep 7, 2008
This adapter works fine with TV but if you want sound which I'm assuming most do, it's next to impossible. The adapter itself is only for video so you need a 3.5 headphone jack to red/white RCA cable for the sound. Only problem is that hardly any cables will work when using the DVI adapter. Many others on MAC forums have made the same complaint that when using both there is a buzzing sound in the audio which impossible to get rid of. Renders the adapter useless if you're trying to watch movies on your TV.

Does Not Work w/ Boot Camp & Windows
Written by RH from Hendersonville
May 23, 2008
Bought hoping I could stream netflix videos to a TV, doesn't work under bootcamp. Searched before buying but didn't find much information; now i've found the numberous threads where everyone is having trouble and Apple is paying as much attention to it as they did the G4/800 ibook (before logic board recall) or Gen3 ipod (battery). I should be blaming boot camp, but wish apple would have mentioned it DOES NOT WORK running windows under boot camp and i would have saved my 24 bucks for five gallons of fuel. Guess SteveJ is trying to catch up with BillG's monetery means. I wonder if this runs under Parallels, virtual pc.....?? You just can't run windows on mac and be 100% compatable. i'll be keeping the pc box a little longer :( at least one tv supports monitor input.

Doesn't work on my Win XP Machine.
Written by MS from Los Angeles

I just get a messy polygon image. Using the s-video or the rca, same result. My graphics card is DVI-I (an Nvidia Quadro FX 370). Very disappointing. Now i have to look for yet another solution.

Worked great... until I rebooted
Written by MK from Calgary
Feb 4, 2008
I'm a new Mac user. I love it and haven't had any problems until I picked up this adapter so I could show a presentation on my TV. It hooked up without any problems and the picture quality on the TV was good.
However... about 5 days later after I restarted my Mac after upgrading iTunes (my laptop was no longer connected to the adapter), the laptop started just fine. 3-4 seconds after I'm in my account, the screen changes and becomes white-washed. The solution is to plug in the adapter (doesn't have to be connected to the TV), and then the screen returns to normal. Still haven't figured this one out. Wasn't expecting this nice machine to need a video adapter as a crutch.185 of 409 people found this useful

Very Poor Product
Written by RP from Cary
Oct 11, 2006
It is easy to use when it works right. It worked fine the first time that I used it. Now it only works if I can get the thing into the right position and then it is still not perfect. Either the picture doesn't show up and I just get black and lines or the picture moves around. Look around for another brand and spend the extra money for a better adapter. I am going to buy a different one because this one is junk!!

Bad picture quality
Written by AH from Arcadia
Oct 7, 2006
It does work, but the picture quality is very bad.
I used it to connect my Macbook Pro to Sony KDL-46XBR2 HDTV, I was very disappointed by the picture quality and had to return it.
For those of you who want to connect your Mac to TV, just get a VGA to Component converter and connect to the VGA to DVI connector that came with your Mac, it works great on my 46" HDTV.

Picture out of sync
Written by CI from Columbia
Sep 28, 2006
Has anyone experienced any problems with this little guy? I'm using it on a G5 tower and using the second output with adaptor to a Sony TV. Both RCA and SVideo give me an out of sync picture. Almost like the old in between two channel picture. Any advice?

Poor picture quality
Written by PM from Berlin
Mar 20, 2006
I am very disappointed about this product. I baught this adapter with an Intel MacMini to replace my PC running Windows XP MCE. But compared to the PC the picture quality of this product is very poor.
I'm using a PAL-TV as monitor and a Denon AV-Receiver to switch the sources, audio as well as video. So basically both the PC and the Mac are wired to to monitor in the exact same way. The Mac even uses the higher quality cable.
However, the PC picture is crisp and colorful. DVD movies look exactly as they should, and text can be read black on white from a little distance.
The picture quality of the mac is far from that. Text is blurry and has color artefacts, colors in DVD movies are all messed up. So for instance when an actor wears a white shirt with some light stripes, it will show as blue and red stripes on the mac.
I'm supremely disappointed and am currently thinking of returning the adapter as well as the Mini...28 of 120 people found this useful

WATCH OUT!! WARNING!!
Written by AH from Amsterdam
Mar 15, 2006
This is a nice working adapter, but watch out with hotswapping this thing.
Before you connect it to your DVI port, turn off your G5 and disconnect the powercord.
Else, you have a good chance that you will blow up the adapter cause of an electric circuit on the DVI out. I lost 3 of these things before I knew that this was the problem, instead of a bad Geforce 6600 videocard.52 of 72 people found this useful

totally useless
Written by BR from Ennetbaden
Jan 5, 2006
I decided to use my mac mini as a multimedia center. So when it was time to connect the mini to my 32" Panasonic TV (crt) nothing happened, just a some noise on the TV flashed by. So Im really disappointed with DVI-Video adapter (the PAL variant) since I expected it to do the work! I have also red that NTSC is default out but there is no way I can change it in OS X, tried to install Mac2tv, but no icon comes up because you have to have the adapter plugged, and how can I change from NTSC to PAL without a freaking monitor!
