Works great with Netflix and Bootcamp

    Written by JT from Collinsville

    Jul 10, 2008

I purchased this originally for the purpose of watching Netflix on my TV. I have an Intel MB Pro. Running XP under Bootcamp after I installed all of the drivers Netflix works fine and the picture looks great on my TV. As a monitor up close the quality is poor. I have found myself however surfing the internet on my couch using adapter. Also there are many nice website (like Hulu) out there that make easy to watch movies and TV show from your laptop.

Does Not Work w/ Boot Camp & Windows

    Written by RH from Hendersonville

    May 23, 2008

Bought hoping I could stream netflix videos to a TV, doesn't work under bootcamp. Searched before buying but didn't find much information; now i've found the numberous threads where everyone is having trouble and Apple is paying as much attention to it as they did the G4/800 ibook (before logic board recall) or Gen3 ipod (battery). I should be blaming boot camp, but wish apple would have mentioned it DOES NOT WORK running windows under boot camp and i would have saved my 24 bucks for five gallons of fuel. Guess SteveJ is trying to catch up with BillG's monetery means. I wonder if this runs under Parallels, virtual pc.....?? You just can't run windows on mac and be 100% compatable. i'll be keeping the pc box a little longer :( at least one tv supports monitor input.

S-Video OK composite not so much

    Written by CE from WASHINGTON

    May 23, 2008

I plugged this into my ATI 2600 XT, hooked the composite into my (mid 90's) NTSC television and got a blank, black screen. I tried several composite cables but no luck. Fortunately I just happened to have a S-Video to composite adapter cable lying around, and when I plugged that one in I was in business.

I don't see any options to choose which output is being used, and my assumption is that they're both supposed to be active. In my case, the composite output simply does not work with my TV.

I just get a messy polygon image. Using the s-video or the rca, same result. My graphics card is DVI-I (an Nvidia Quadro FX 370). Very disappointing. Now i have to look for yet another solution.

Works with DVI-I enabled graphics cards, not DVI-D. Google your model of graphics card to see if it is DVI-I or DVI-D.

I purchased this little gem for one reason only, to watch all season 4 episodes of Lost currently on ABC.com. I used this adapter with a 42 inch plasma and I can honestly say it was, at least visually, near HD quality. I would highly recommend this adapter to anyone who hates sitting down in front of their computer like a drone to watch a TV show.

Works with any DVI port, not just mac.

    Written by IC from Atlanta

Works with ANY COMPUTER (even WINDOWS), as long as it has a DVI port (rectangle) not a VGA port (trapezoid). Works perfectly fine, but edges seem warped a bit.

    Windows XP??

Written by SM from Snowmass Village

    Feb 19, 2008

Of course it dosent work with Windows XP. Notice the list of computers that are compatible. When you install windows on a mac with bootcamp it is still a PC it just happens to be operating on an apple computer. To avoid confusion read everything very carefully and assume nothing before you purcahse.

This product works great with my 1.83 ghz Macbook Pro. All you have to do is just plug the cord in and the resolution automatically adjusts. I have a tube tv and the quality looks great to me. Obviously not great for reading text- but perfect for watching movies.

    Worked great... until I rebooted

    Written by MK from Calgary

I'm a new Mac user. I love it and haven't had any problems until I picked up this adapter so I could show a presentation on my TV. It hooked up without any problems and the picture quality on the TV was good.

However... about 5 days later after I restarted my Mac after upgrading iTunes (my laptop was no longer connected to the adapter), the laptop started just fine. 3-4 seconds after I'm in my account, the screen changes and becomes white-washed. The solution is to plug in the adapter (doesn't have to be connected to the TV), and then the screen returns to normal. Still haven't figured this one out. Wasn't expecting this nice machine to need a video adapter as a crutch.

Does the best Standard Definition Can

Written by JK from Soddy Daisy

I never realized how low TV resolution is compared to computer monitors until I plugged this in. At first I thought the adapter was doing it, but soon I realized it was my SDTV. It seems every sdtv ever made has horrible resolution but we never notice cause we don't have to read stuff on it. The cinema display is a much better choice; sell your old tv, it's generation is dead.

This product works fine. People complaining should read the requirements before buying a product. I quote:

    "Important:
Requires Mac Pro (with ATI X1900 XT), MacBook Pro, Mac mini or Power Mac G5 with DVI port."

    I just...

    Written by FT from Toronto

It makes me feel sad that apple felt the need to sell this adapter seperately. I was a happy powerbook owner and always used my vga to s video adapter that came with my initial purchase proudly (I might be wrong with the protocol names, but you get the point). I have no doubts, with the trust I invested in apple products over the years that this adapter would work perfectly, but still...
why didn't it come out of the proudly designed MacBook Pro box?
come on you guys, we know you can deliver products with a complete sensitivity to a users everyday need, don't tell me you forgot about it!
