    not good for all countries

    Written by KF from Tijeras

    Mar 12, 2009

I've been traveling in Eastern Europe and have only been able to use one of the adapters once. Granted most of my time hasn't been spent in typical tourist countries but the folks at the Apple store mislead me into thinking that the European adapter would work all over Europe, however, this is not true as most counties I've been to have larger outlets than the Apple European adapter.

    No ground connection

Written by EB from Busto Arsizio

In several of these adapters (italian one, for example) there's no ground connector while is a common standard. Due to this missing connection, the machines with aluminum case can be very discomfortable to be used.

    POOR QUALITY CONSTRUCTION! BEWARE!

    Written by TS from Harrisville

    Feb 18, 2008

This kit is great if you do indeed travel the world on a regular basis, but it seems impractical to buy so many plugs if you are going one place.
AND, they are made very cheaply. After only TWO weeks of use one of the prongs broke off and I am now stranded in Poland with no way to charge my MacBook... thanks Apple.

    Not quality!

    Written by LW from VISALIA

    Feb 4, 2008

I am abroad more than I am in the US, so I was excited about this pack, but my first week using the European converter, one of the pegs broke off. And this is just with normal light travel. I was very upset, and had to find an alternative way to charge my computer.
Now to replace it I have to buy the entire box set again (which I refuse to do)...what I mostly need is the European outlet, so it is ridiculous that Apple doesn't offer individual adapters.
I was let down a great deal by this product.

Weak design and too short a tether

    Written by JC from Stamford

    Aug 3, 2007

This is a rather unfortunate design. Better than nothing which gets one star. It may serve for people who don't travel often or work in their rooms and who don't mind working off battery a lot and need light weight more than capability. This is one of the worst Apple designs in failing to understand travel needs.

Apple insists on using an Apple specific plug rather than a setup that would allow use of standard international standard connectors, which is the case with many power supplies and battery chargers.

Replacing the cord with a plug usually leaves us too far away to use the laptop plugged in. The fitting is non-standard, i.e. Apple specific. We found regular plug adapters more useful, but for the MacBook Pros, we've simply acquired replacement cords, i.e. French and British ends. We use standard adapters elsewhere. What these plugs do is leave you with a cord that is too short and a plug in setup that is awkward just as any direct plug brick is.

It does not make sense to travel with less than two meters of cord length, at least not in most places we stay.

We've worked to cut our clutter and increase flexibility when traveling. Our foreign plugged cords for a Canon battery charger has a standard fitting (looks like a figure 8) so that we can use it on almost anything but the Apple. We have compact coiled cords with interchangeable ends, i.e. plus can be changed on either end or one end plugged directly in a power supply, except for Apple.

There are good workarounds on powering the Macbook Pros. These plugs just don't happen to do anything for frequent travelers.

    Disppointment

    Written by ST from Ipswich

I'm such a apple fan, & have been for 14 years, but I have to say that this is such a money making con! 99% of people don't need all these adapters for around the world! All I needed was a UK adapter (for my girlfriend who doesn't have a computer) & I was shocked to find out that apple don't seem to sell UK adapters separatly! WHY?? Its such a basic service that apple should offer! ipods ain't cheap, and you can get MP3 players alot cheaper (Im happy to pay more as its apple) but its very poor that I would need to spend $40 just so I can charge up an ipod! Infact it wouldn't be a bad idea to have a charge included in the pack with the ipod, as not everyone in the world as a computer! Anyway if you need a UK adapter you can get one off ebay for $1 (a fraction of the apple Kit price) from a third party company!!

This should be renamed Capitalist World Travel Adapter Kit....

Sure, its pretty and white and seems like a great accessory to my ibook BUT its name is misleading. Africa is part of the world and if they are going to name it the world adapter kit then it should indeed include the WORLD! I took this kit to South Africa with me and I discovered that this kit was worthless. Apple should consider adding the South African outlet configuration to this kit among many other configurations this kit lacks.

DO NOT BUY JUST FOR JAPANESE ADAPTOR

    Written by BC from Weston

    Jul 6, 2006

I am moving to Japan and thought i needed a Japanese adaptor however, the N.America and Japanese plugs are the same so if you think you need an adaptor for Japan, you don't. The book or writes ups don't say this, only the directions inside the box. I give it one star for not being clear...even the guy at the store thought it was a seperate adaptor!

    They're ripping you off, Again

    Written by JZ from Springfield

    Mar 4, 2006

Though this product is nice, its completely unesscary unless you want to waste your money on a name brand. You can get an international adaptor in any electronic store for the same price that works with your cell phone, iPods, hair dryer, and anything else tht needs electricity. Please, they're just trying to rip you off again when the original charger should have come with the iPod any way!

    Brazen cheek of Apple!!

    Written by KB from London

    Jan 10, 2006

Ok, firstly, why in the world doesn't this come with the power adaptor?; secondly, how can Apple justify not including that with the Ipod itself (I don't imagine they're struggling for funds); and thirdly - and most appallingly - why the heck does Apple not make its products applicable for all its Ipods (ie the Nano) and if it's only going to apply to some products it HAS to indicate this on the box, particularly when using it with the wrong product will fry it! Not everyone shops online you know! Luckily I read a review before using it but surely it isn't an expectation of all consumers to go to apple.com and read reviews of products before buying. Typical Apple snobbery. Oh and one more thing - interesting how there's no phone number to call with complaints/queries about products - implying that if you weren't born with some innate knowledge of how to use the products, you aren't the sort of person whose custom Apple welcomes. Am now left with a useless piece of equipment as I opened the plastic before I found out it wouldn't work with the Nano, and Apple returns policy says the original packaging must be intact to get a refund.

    A waste of money

    Written by PR from London

    Dec 19, 2005

Although it fulfills its function and does it well, there are two major issues with this kit. Firstly it does not include the USB Power Adapter in the package. This means that you will then have to pay for two pieces of kit the power adapter and the world travel kit! Secondly its just not necessary unless you are the kind of person who needs every bit of Apple kit. Once you have the Power Adapter you can buy a normal convertor available at the airport and it will work just the same for half the price.

    Not with a Nano

    Written by RB from Geneve

    Nov 14, 2005

Great Idea, just dont try it with a ipod nano - I only read it in a review after frying the battery on my nano that the voltage coming thru foreign plugs wouldnt be regulated down to the max 5V to charge a nano - instead it got 12V..not smart and not well advertised - same goes for non apple varieties that even say it safe for a nano.

I went to Germany over the summer and it didn't work at all. I switched out the american plug for the european converter and it just drains the battery! won't even turn on if you have a american converter and try to charge. but it won't ruin it. not worth the money
