Apple DVI to ADC Adapter
Works, but USB pass-through is flaky!
Written by YN from San Francisco

Using it with a late '08 unibody MBP and 23" Cinema Display.
The interface works with the monitor as advertised, but the USB pass-through is unreliable. My USB keyboard and trackball connected to the USB ports in the back of the monitor would become disconnected in about 5 minutes of use. I wound up disconnecting the USB cable from my MBP and connected the keyboard directly to the MBP.
Apart from that inconvenience, the unit is large and expensive. I guess that's the price you pay for trying to use legacy peripherals with a proprietary interface.11 of 13 people found this useful

Apple DVI to ADC Adapter
Poor result with 22" Cinema Display
Written by BH from Bloomfield

This adapter works fine for connecting a 17-inch Apple flat panel display to my PowerBook G4. It's a disaster when I try to do the same with my 22-inch Cinema Display: constant screen flicker, a column of dancing 3-inch-long lines on the left side of the screen and halos around all images. Switching to different screen resolutions sometimes improves or worsens the problem but never eliminates it. I can find nothing on the Apple Web site that comments on this issue, which unfortunately makes the adapter useless for the purpose I intended.

Apple DVI to ADC Adapter
Works - but with limited functionality
Written by DB from Berkeley

This adaptor does the basics: my old style 23" Cinema HD works with my new Mac Pro. Contrary to what some other users have reported, USB devices connected via the ports on the monitor are working OK for me. That's it for the good.
The bad:
The power button on the monitor no longer does any of the useful things it did when the monitor was connected directly to my G5:
It can't start up the computer. It can't put the system to sleep. It can't wake the computer from sleep. The light behind the button is either on or off. If the system is in sleep mode, the light is off (rather than doing the traditional, gentle, sleep pulse). When the system wakes up, the light goes back on.
When the computer shuts down, the power light on the monitor stays on. Does this meant that the monitor stays on when the computer is off? Probably. Unplugging the adaptor from the wall will do the trick, but shouldn't not wasting power be a little easier?85 of 123 people found this useful

Apple DVI to ADC Adapter
limited functionality for some systems
Written by JC

I bought my PowerMac G4 dual 1.42GHz back in 2003 when it first hit the market. I have continually upgraded it as new products became available that were still compatible with the system. I have the AGP 256MB ATI Radeon 9600 Pro Card, 2GB DDR SDRAM PC2700, Sonnet USB 2.0 4 port PCI Card, Sonnet FireWire 400 4 port PCI Card, Sonnet FireWire 800 3 port PCI Card, M-Audio 5.1 Revolution True 24bit Sound Card. I bought the DVI to ADC Display Adapter to use with my AGP 256MB ATI Radeon 9600 Pro Card.
I didn't have a problem with the price of the adaptor. I was thankful that Apple made a product that allowed an older system to work with newer technology. However, I do wish Apple would be HONEST and UPFRONT about the compatibility of the DVI to ADC Display Adapter.
If your PowerMac G4 looks anything like mine it WILL NOT SUPPORT THE SLEEP OR POWER FUNCTIONS OF YOUR APPLE 17inch Active Matrix Studio Display. YOU CAN DISABLE THE SLEEP FUNCTIONS UNDER SYSTEM PREFERENCES ENERGY SAVER. If you put your monitor to sleep IT WILL NOT WAKE UP and you WILL BE FORCED TO SHUT DOWN YOUR COMPUTER FROM THE TOWERS POWER BUTTON. IF I WERE YOU I WOULDN'T DO THAT VERY OFTEN. Apple should have designed a product that worked better than this. I am thankful and disappointed at the same time.220 of 356 people found this useful

How could Apple do that????!
Written by XP from Los Angeles

The thing works but is HUGE!!!!! I don't understand how Apple could come up with such a thing! We are talking about connecting Apple-to-Apple.... The other adapters Apple produces are small and cost between $20 and $30! This "thing" is expensive and won't help keep your desk (or under the desk) area clutter-free!

Everything worked fine until ...
Written by MC from Helendale

Everything worked fine until I went to remove the USB plug from back of my G5. The USB plug came apart, and that was the end of the adapter. So far I am unable to find anyone to repair it. Apple is quiet on repairing small items, even if they cost $100.

A bit short sighted...

I think you could have done a little better than this. I understand rapidly changing technology...BUT, to not fit newer machines with a card which would accept the older flat screen without having to buy this oversized adapter... I am disapppointed! You could have given at least a five year phase out plan to us who get the best use out of our equipment. I run two machines in my phtoto studio so my expenses double every time I need to purchase something to make my machines run. I've been a staunch Mac user from the beginning. This has shaken my faith a little. I hope you'll listen to your loyal customers and keep thinking outside the box.
