Apple DVI to ADC Adapter
Big, ugly, awkward
Written by JF from Flemington

I bought a second generation Cinema display a few years back and now if I want to drive my PowerBook, I've got to buy this ugly octupus. BTW it works, but it is huge and the wires are a mess.
The whole point of the ADC was to minimize wire creep. Right now, my desk looks like the floor in the Alien nest in the movie Aliens.
I'm sending this thing back and buying a Dell 24" (which includes a VGA connector right in the monitor unlike the current Apple displays). Darnit it! this is costing me $1,000 bucks.20 of 32 people found this useful

Apple DVI to ADC Adapter
Adaptor? Why?
Written by JR from Sacramento

I just bought a new G5 dual and own a 17" apple display I used with my G4. The G5 came with a cute little DVI to VGA adaptor which I can use to connect to any VGA display screen. ANY other company's product! Can I connect my APPLE display to my new Apple computer? NO! I need to by this monster, two corded, wall-wart looking, transformer-like piece of magic plastic to make it run for $99 bucks! To add insult to injury, you can no longer start the computer from your screen corners. Don't get me started on video cards and Final Cut Pro 4 ($299). Seems like Apple needs a few lessons in marketing?

Apple DVI to ADC Adapter
Does the job
Written by RP from Modesto

I really liked the functionality of the original ADC interface with my Cube since it gave me extra USB ports and no extra power supply. Unfortunately ADC has been phased out so I needed a solution to run my ADC display with my Powerbook and later my G5. This does the job just fine and since I have to have a power supply brick for what ever display I use the size is not a factor. It is about twice the size of the PS for my 20"CD and either can be hidden anyway so size is sort of a moot point for me. It works great for me and allows me to use my older ADC 17" flat panel on both my Macs and my PC.

A little big, but elegant and easy to hide if need be. Works awesome, x86 laptop plugged in and worked right away.

Apple DVI to ADC Adapter
Apple hits a triple.

This adapter lets me use my Apple older but excellent 23" display with an ATi card that doesn't support ADC monitors.
I can now drive two large monitors.
The adapter is compact and accurately depicted, if one realizes that the two displayed connectors are USB (the small one) and DVI (the larger one).
The Power Supply looks like the iBook, Power Book, and iPod AC adapters, this one is about 4.75 x 4.75 x 1.75.
There is a lot of cable on each side of the PSU, so it will fit anywhere you want, and still give you room to put the monitor where you what.
The only reason it doesn't get 5 stars is that it doesn't let the display's Power button turn the computer on. This is a big disappointment. If this adapter doesn't support the display's Power button, then I'll swap it for the Dr. Bott DVIator, available at Apple Stores.45 of 56 people found this useful

Apple DVI to ADC Adapter
HUGE
Written by IO from San Francisco

This adapter is huge, contrary to Apple's pictures on this page the device takes up a massive amount of space. It is as big as the Mac Mini so kinda defeats the purpose of buying a nice little mac mini to save space and look good. All this results from Apple's dumb decision to go with ADC in the first place.

I have a 1st generation 23" Cinema HD Display for my Quicksilver tower and a Powerbook G4 1.67GHz laptop. This adapter works GREAT. I am now portable with an unbelieveably gorgeous display . . . and no money wasted. One fantastic buy. Thank you Apple.
