    Overall great case, some flaws

    • Written by from Makawao

Overall, this is a great case, and definitely the best on the market. I didn't like previous waterproof cases because you often had to press harder on the screen and sometimes they don't recognize swipes. This case solves that problem. It takes a little getting used to because it’s harder to get to the keys on the very edge (like the space bar) because of the bevel, but still waaay better than having plastic over the screen.

The biggest flaw, and the reason I took off a star, is that it doesn't have a place to attach a lanyard (neither does the Fre). That really limits its usage. If you get this "just in case" you drop your phone in the toilet, then that won't matter to you. But if you're using it somewhere you can’t to drop it (like the ocean), then it’s a big issue. The lifejacket accessory has a lanyard attachment and floats, but that makes it too bulky to put in a pocket. Would it really have been so hard to add this obvious feature?

The other non-trivial issue is that the ringer and speaker phone are muffled. Before I was able to use speakerphone while driving, now I’ll have to buy a Bluetooth headset. One other issue is that Control Center (the thing that appears when you swipe from the very bottom) doesn’t work. Bummer, because I used flashlight all the time, but worth it to me just to use flashlight app instead. TouchID works fine for me, but not if my thumb is wet. Also, the stock Apple headphones are really hard to get in, impossible to do while keeping your eyes on the road and one hand on the wheel. Couldn’t they have made the whole just a teeny bit bigger?

    Not really compatible with 5s/iOS7

    • Written by from Los Angeles

Great case in terms of protection and form factor but I have to return because the shape of the beveled edge at the bottom makes it so its nearly impossible to swipe up and access the control center. Also the Touch ID barely works with this thing on.

    Great case

Finally was able to get my hands on one for my 5s. Had the iPhone 5 version when I had that phone. Love being able to have the protection, but still be able to use touchID.

    My phone is ruined

    • Written by from Toronto

I purchased the Lifeproof case a week ago to take travelling with me so that I could take underwater pictures. I did the test (they'll send you a test kit) and sitting in water it did fine. No signs of moisture. However- taking it swimming in the ocean turned out to be a different story. I had the phone in my hand while swimming- never going more than a foot or so under, and my home button stopped working. When I took the case off to investigate, the phone was wet. A few minutes later, the screen went black. I've tried the old rice trick to bring it back but the damage is already done. My phone is destroyed!

Looking at the Lifeproof case now, the rubber seal is detaching. For an $89 case, one week out of the box, there is no excuse for it to be falling apart so quickly!

Now I am in a foreign country without a phone. I wouldn't trust this product, even with the generally good reviews. It's not worth it when it fails. And if you really, really want to go with it- try the test kit during the actual activity you're doing- like swimming/moving it around. Submerging it for a couple of hours doesn't give an accurate indication.

    Hard to open Control Center

    • Written by from Nanaimo

Just got the case. Very frustrating to open control centre. I'd read about that in the reviews, but figured it was worth a try since I need the waterproof feature for sports. Takes about 4-5 attempts each time. Likely a deal breaker for me. I'll give it a try over the weekend and send it back if I don't figure out a finger trick of some kind to make it work reliably.

    great case for everyday use

    • Written by from Wentzville

the case is very slim for the protection it offers, the touch id works consistently.
the sound from the ear piece and speaker is clear, i have tried the otterbox preserver
nice case but the sound quality is no where near as clear as this case. i would definitely
    purchase

    Terrible voice quality

    • Written by from Natick

I installed the case this morning and was very happy with the fit and the quality. Then I made a couple of phone calls. Each person I talked to said I was very muffled and asked me to repeat myself several times. My wife and I switched phones and she called me from my phone using the Nuud. The only way I can describe the quality is that it sounded like one of those deep sea divers talking through a scuba mask.

    So far so good

    • Written by from Bogota

Well i just got mine today. so far so good. Just wanted to write a review because i am seeing that a lot of people are commenting on swiping up from the bottom. I had the same problem but i figured it out. Instead of trying to place your finger at the bottom edge of the screen to swipe up start from the edge of the case where it starts sloping down towards the screen and start swiping up. It works very good.

    NOT GREAT FLAWS!!!

    • Written by from Schaumburg

MY MUTE SWITCH WAS LETTING WATER IN!!! IT OS HONESTLY A DELICATE CASE! it works good for drops but I thought the case was super durable? I guess not. It is not perfect. It is also a pain if you have a dock. And I know their is one with a screen protector but this one should not exist. I had to replace the case because of the fact that the waterproof case was letting water in.. But nothing's perfect I guess.

Waterproof guarantee doesn't cover phone and the seal breaks down after use

    • Written by from Alpharetta

Like many others I did the waterproof test. Worked fine. 6 months pass. I know better that to purposely take it in water b/c the risk isn't worth it, but I took my phone to the pool and jumped in with it in my pocket. Ugh. I jumped out and there was a tiny leak. Just a couple drops, but the wifi was shot. Kind of need that feature. Lifeproof gladly gave me a new case since there's was defective, but they do absolutely nothing towards the destruction of my 6 month old phone. Retrospectively, the $100 would be FAR better spent towards a water damage warranty. Why spend $100 that would have the same result as a $10 one?? There is no guarantee that what you buy is waterproof. Regardless, wear and tear breaks down their seal, even if it test ok on day 1. (PS this case was never dropped and looked as good as new when the leak occurred.)
If you have 1, I recommend taking it apart weekly to retest the water seal.
