    A terrible waste of money

    • Written by from Jacksonville

I bought this overpriced piece of junk thinking it'd work with my MacBook Pro. It doesn't. It's complete garbage. It doesn't see anything that I plug into it.

Short power cord and doesn't work

    • Written by from Cincinnati

Like many of the other reviews, this power cord is very short and it has not been able to power any of my devices. It worked for the first 4-5 weeks but then stopped completely.

Works fine without using the power adapter

    • Written by from New Haven

The hub works fine without plugging the power adapter as long as your computer is powering the USB port, and that the total amount of power required by all the connected devices does not exceed the maximum power that a USB 3 port can deliver. The power adapter is only needed if one of these conditions is not met.
This unit is compact enough to be carried around constantly.

BASIC AND NO FRILLS, WITH SOME INCONVENIENCES. BUT IT DOES WORK

    • Written by from Toronto

This is an inexpensive USB 3 hub that does the basic job,
But also has some significant inconveniences.
Unfortunately, all the available USB 3 hubs I've tried have various design issues, and this one's no exception.
Given the deficit of USB ports and USB power on the iMac, we're desperately awaiting a well-designed, adequately powered USB 3 hub.

    PROS:
    1. Cheap
    2. Works (basically) with USB 3 devices and basic USB 1 devices like keyboards etc.
    3. Portable users will like its very light weight (bad for desktop use).

    CONS:
    1. Does not recognize any brand of USB 2 memory stick that I've tried.
So I need an additional USB 2 hub for sticks I use on both newer and older Macs or that I get from clients.

    2. Only has 4 ports.
Really, with the iMac's deficit of ports, unless you're Grandma Fizbin using your Mac to Facetime your granddaughter,
    you're going to need more.

    3. Very inconvenient design unless you're going portable:
    • All the ports are on the same side, so there's no forward facing port for quick use
(Belkin had an excellent USB 2 hub with dual direction ports)
    • Both the power and USB-to-Mac cables are on the same side so, no matter which way you point the device,
you get cables all over your desk, which is a nuisance if you actually work for a living.
    • The device is so light that it often gets pulled down behind the desk by the weight of the USB cables.

    4. Not robustly powered.
I have 2 of these hubs and can only use them with low-draw devices.
Even with those, I need to be careful abut how many devices I plug in.
So it becomes a dance of mixing and matching devices to each hub to get the magic formula.

    5. Ports feel cheaply made - USB plugs often get stuck in the port and have to be wiggled out.
This makes it a pain for using with USB sticks

All in all, this is a device that will meet your needs (sort of) while you wait for a much better product (like Belkin's excellent multi-port USB 2 hub with both top and back facing ports.)

    Works well...

    • Written by from Moorhead

Honestly, the thing is pretty cheap, it works well and it looks nice.

My only complaint is PURE VANITY, which means I could probably have given this a "5"... couldn't they have made the cord come out the back? For us ultra-fussy iMac users, this means that no matter what there's an ugly cord laying on our desk.

Although, now that I've said it, they probably moved it to the side as the result of a different, ultra-fussy iMac user... Ha!

The thing works well and should probably have had 5 stars instead of 4. You won't be sorry buying it, so long as you carefully read the description regarding powered devices.

Power Cord Too Short & Other Problems

    • Written by from Shorewood

The power cord is too short, and the USB cable is too rigid. You will end up re-arranging your system around this otherwise inconsequential accessory. And despite being a powered hub, it will not support a Superdrive. I would infer that there are a bunch of other peripherals that it also cannot power.

    Belkin usb 3 hub

    • Written by from St-Lambert

Does not reliably charge an iPhone. Sometimes does, sometimes does not even if iPhone recognized as connected to my MacPro. Better to connect directly to the Mac. Only useful as a basic hub for non energy dependent devices. In that way, connecting to an outlet is useless. I won't return it since I connect usb keys and a flash card reader but if you intend to be able to reliably charge your phone, don't by this

    Great... but inconsistent

    • Written by from Wauwatosa

The 4 ports with USB 3.0 is priceless. The unpredictable power management in this device is not what I was looking for. I use this with a 13" MacBook Pro Retina Late 2013. The Hub often "falls asleep" - loses power and functionality. I unplug and re-plug it into the USB port, but it doesn't wake up. I have to unplug and re-plug the power, which is a pain to have to do every time I want to use the device. I may have to return it if this continues.

I would not recommend this USB Hub. It looks great, and it is fantastic when powered and working... it's just unreliable.

There's too much that isn't told, or conflicts

    • Written by from SAINT PAUL

    This hub is totally unsatisfactory:
    1) It uses a Micro-B connector which I've found to be unreliable and results in interrupted connections.
    2) They don't mention the chipset or firmware to ensure compatibility. I also bought an earlier model that was totally unreliable.
    3) They don't list the current available for charging, only referring to it being "fast". What? If only the USB 3 standard, that's 900 ma, short of the 1A normally provided by Apple iPhone chargers.
    4) It won't charge an iPad.
    5) The power adapter only has a 1 meter cable, not long enough to reach from the desk to an outlet without adding an extension cord.
    6) Why aren't the specifications listed for the technically inclined.
    7) It's way too expensive for what you get.

    DO NOT BUY!

    • Written by from Antioch

First of all, they hide the fact that it not only has a wall wart, but only a 3' power cable. The only way you can even use this thing, unless you have a power outlet within 2 1/2' of your hub, is to get an extension cord. That just looks horrible. Then, the connections aren't on the back, they're on the side. So, no matter how hard you try, your desk looks like a jumbled mess. For $60, I expect more. Bad call Belkin, and bad call Apple Store for selling this junk. I never even tried it, so I cannot tell you if it even works. I'm taking it back at lunch!

    A nice compact package

    • Written by from VANCOUVER

This 4-port USB hub provides a nice package that does not take up much extra physical desk space. It expands the 2 USB ports on my MacBook to 5 (4 on the hub, one left on the MacBook), easily accomodating my printer, backup disc, and Dragonfly Dac. The cord on the WallWart power supply is a bit short, but there is an impressive bit of technology that solves this problem: it's called an "extension cord".

Doesn't do the one thing I needed...

    • Written by from Haleiwa

I purchased this Hub to power and run an external superdrive (legacy - hah) on my MBP Retina. This hub does not work in conjunction with apple's superdrive. Style-wise it looks great. I don't like the power plug and master usb port connecting to the side... that was a bad move, it should be in the back unless you don't care how your desk looks. Also, the power plug is 3'3" not a deal-breaker but way too short. I'll be making the hour long drive back to apple to return this as soon as I can.

    Power adapter

    • Written by from Toronto
