    Don't - You'll just return it.

    • Written by from Signal Hill

The case is hard plastic, very hard plastic. The control buttons are all of the same molding. There is no way no how you can use the buttons on the side of the phone or on the top due to how hard the plastic is and how the buttons and bumper are one molded piece.
TAVIK claims they are " Visionaries " they should vision on how to redesign this case and destroy the current stock.

    Love this bumper!

    • Written by from Midland

I absolutely love this product, and I have tried a lot of bumpers. The iphone 5S is so beautiful, why would you want to cover it up? This bumper looks great while only covering the edges. Everything you need (buttons and attachments) are still accessible. The feel is great with softer plastic around the edges to allow it to grip so you can set it on an angled surface for instance, and a harder plastic in the middle. The plastic looks nice - doesn't look cheap. Some have complained about the top button being hard to push. It is certainly harder to push than with no cover, but I don't think it's too bad given the advantages offered by this bumper.

I use mine in combination with a Zagg HD invisishield on the back and the new Zagg glass on the front, and this bumper is compatible with both. The only way the phone could look better is if I had unlimited funds and left it naked and exposed.

I would give it 0 stars, if I could.
This is the worst piece of junk I had the displeasure of using in a long time.
You need to be a body builder to have enough strength in your fingers to press the tiny volume or power buttons on it.
Completely unusable! And I am not a small guy.
A 1 dollar Chinese no name bumper is better than this.
They obviously spent more money and attention to design the fancy shmancy case than the product itself.
I would send it back if I would not be out of the country.

Apple, shame on you for selling this. Just avoid.

    Good quality, poor design

    • Written by from Moorestown

The quality of this product is actually quite good. The materials used are top-shelf and it's solidly built.

The problem is the design. The sides of the case are very smooth and almost greasy feeling. This makes it somewhat slippery when holding your phone in your hand. In fact, if I lay my iPhone vertically in my hand and use a very loose grip, it slides down very easily. Other cases I've used have much more grip.

The other big issue are the button covers. The on/off switch at the top is very stiff and requires an unnatural amount of force to sleep or wake your iPhone. The volume buttons are also very stiff, with very little feedback.

The case itself is a little too padded overall, make for a bit of a wider grip than I would like. If your primary concern is to have maximum protection in a bumper, I think this offers it, but you'll have to weigh that against the flaws noted above.

Overall, I cannot recommend this case - especially at this expensive price - because of its glaring design flaws. There are much cheaper bumper cases that are available, and though they might not last as long, they offer a much more user-friendly design.

    Great Bumper

Bumper feels sturdy in your hands, and despite the reviews about the buttons they are not bad once you have gotten to use them. My favorite case.

Do Not Buy the White Case

    • Written by from Los Angeles

Purchased the white colored case for my white iPhone 5s and just three days later the non-coated areas of the bumper have turned black (front and back edges). A fairly expensive case that looks like it has seen better days in just the three it has been used for.

In my opinion this is a design flaw. They should use a different material for the edges to prevent this.

    Poor case

    • Written by from Hinsdale

Very difficult to turn on and off or use the volume buttons. The older version bumper was much better then this one. This is just a cheaper and poor quality version of the old one!!!! If you had the old bumper you will be very disappointed with this one!!!!!!

Practical but inelegant in black with the 5s

    • Written by from LONDON

Fits very snugly and found no issue with buttons being difficult to press. However on an aesthetic level the black bumper does not look great on the black/space gray 5s. That's because space gray has a warmer hue than the bluer charcoal grey of the black bumper's perimeter. Creates an unfortunate color clash when you look at the back of the phone.

nice case, but pricey and doesn't work with Amazon Basics Lightning cable

    • Written by from Boulder

I bought one of these cases yesterday at my local Apple Store, because I had the bumper case for my iPhone that Apple gave away back during the antennagate scandal. The Tavik bumper is beautiful and feels just right.

The two strikes against it are that it costs $30 (similar cases on Amazon cost $10) and the Amazon Basics USB-to-Lightning cable doesn't fit in the phone's plug when the case is on.

    Excellent bumper

    • Written by from San Francisco

The bumper provides a solid grip on the phone, protects the outer edge, and if placed face down on a table, the face will not contact the surface. I also like that it doesn't cover up the back of the phone; my enclosed case for the iPhone 4 would trap dirt and other pocket detritus that would scratch and mar the back. I've also had brand-name cases where the finish would chip off, glued-on components would become unglued after just a couple of months, etc., but I anticipate none of these problems with this bumper.

The power button is a little tough to move, but it's not a big deal. Also, as other reviewers have pointed out, the cutout for the headphone plug is too small for some plugs, and it's not easy to peel off the bumper. Otherwise, it's perfect for my purposes and my phone feels less fragile.

    I really love this case

    • Written by from Sierra Madre

I originally wanted the Speck PixelSkin HD, but I discovered that the 5 version is far inferior to the 4. I wanted a case that both looks good and protects the corners from falls. The Outer Edge case satisfies both requirements. The edge is substantial enough to protect the phone from corner impacts, and it provides enough space on both the front and back sides to safely lay the phone on a flat surface. It also fits very snugly--there is no way the phone will ever slip out of the case. Visually, the case is about as minimalist as it gets--the beauty of the phone is not hidden by a ton of plastic, and the slim form factor of the phone is essentially unaffected by the bumper design. Of course, all this means that there is more risk of scratching the phone with keys or coins if one keeps the phone in the same pocket with other objects. As I never put anything in the same pocket as the phone, I am able to prevent damage to the device. As far as the stiff buttons are concerned, that is true--it is difficult--at first--to operate the volume buttons. However, the buttons got easier to operate after a few days usage, and now that is not a problem any more. If you want a minimalist case that provides basic protection from falls while preserving the beauty of the phone, and you are careful to keep other objects away from the phone, then this case is one you should consider.

    One design flaw

    • Written by from Carnegie

The opening for the charging port appears larger than it is. When you buy it, you think it will fit most chargers, but in fact, the opening has a little lip inside of it that reduces the diameter. The OEM Apple charger fits, but almost no other wall or car charger fits.

OK if all you have are Apple chargers, but I need more flexibility than that.

    Great bumper!

    • Written by from Pasco

I had the Apple brand bumper for the 4s and loved it. This case is an improvement in many ways.

-Rubber is stiffer, will not degrade as easily
-Snaps onto the phone, unlike the 4s bumper, there's no section that is only rubber to break
-Fits firmly on the phone, doesn't feel flimsy or loose

-Still has a very small opening for the ports, works fine for standard lightning connector and EarPods, but does fit the lightning to HDMI adapter or most headphones.

-Buttons for volume and power are VERY firm. The other reviews are correct in stating that the amount of force required to use the power button can hurt your finger.
-BUT, there's an easy fix: While not snapped onto the phone, exercise the buttons. After less than a minute of wearing in the power button, it now takes what I would consider to be a "normal" amount of force to actuate.

While I don't foresee needing a new one after a year like i did with the 4s, I'd gladly re-buy for another year.

Three drops; not a scratch on my iPhone 5S

    • Written by from Savannah

I have dropped my iPhone 5S three times already, and the Tavik OUTER EDGE Bumper Case worked like a champ every time. I highly recommend it.

Two minor complaints: 1. The cover over the power button is tighter and harder to press than the cover over the volume buttons. 2. It's a little thicker than the Apple-branded bumper for the iPhone 4S.

    Great Bumper, Until...

    • Written by from Winter Park

This bumper does not work with the Apple Lightning to HDMI adapter, otherwise this is a great case but if you use third party cables or any adapters that are thicker than Apple's stock lightning cable you are out of luck.

I will not be using this case for much longer.

Good protection, but some headphones won't fit.

    • Written by from Philadelphia

This case give great protection and the rubber feel provides a great grip. However, the bottom part is too thick, and the openings are not big enough for different attachments. My biggest concern with the case is that not all headphones fit! I cannot hook it up to my sound system in my room, and some headphones I prefer to run with do not fit, either.... and that is very annoying.

    Best Bumper

    • Written by from Chicago

I've had a lot of bumpers but this one is easily the best for the iPhone 5.
It is rigid and not overly flimsy. I fits perfectly and doesn't seem to come away from the iphone at all.
Very happy with it and love the color.

    Yay, another Winner!

    • Written by from Indian Trail

Its been a very long time since i've enjoyed a case like i do this one. It hugs the phone snug and feels great in the hand. Most people here mentioned the only issue they found with this bumper, was the stiffness of the buttons. I went to the Apple store to put one on for myself, and i did find this to be true. i tried a few of them, some better or worse than others, and finally on the 5th one for some reason, the buttons were much more tactile and fluid. A simple natural feel, you even hear the clicks. What a fantastic product!

Great case if you have steel finger tips

    • Written by from CHICAGO

You can not use the buttons on this case without hurting your finger tips. I resorted to using finger nails for the volume buttons. The case is solid but very poorly designed and it is unlikely to be on the market much longer until the button problems are resolved.
