    Works well, until it doesn't

    • Written by from Newport Beach

I've had two of these cases - the first for my iPhone 4 some years ago, and another when I picked up my iPhone 5s at the start of 2014. Both cases suffered the exact same fate. They both worked for a number of months, then the microUSB port started to intermittently not realize it was plugged into a charger, and wouldn't charge. If I removed the usb cable and reinserted it enough times, and placed my phone just so, it would charge again. My first case for the iPhone 4 became unusable after about 10-11 months as it stopped recognizing it was plugged in at all. And now, after about 7 months, the case for my iPhone 5s is starting to exhibit the exact same behavior. I've actually noticed there is more and more play in the microUSB port when I plug in the cable over time. When I first got the case, it was a nice snug fit, now it isn't.

I know it's not my USB cable, as I use the exact same cable for other purposes and it never has an issue. I know it's not my wall AC adapter, as when plugged in directly to the phone, I also never have a charging issue. So that leaves the microUSB port on the Mophie case as the only possible culprit.

This is really disappointing. I wanted to like this case, I really did. So much so, I chalked up my first bad case for my iPhone 4 as me getting less than good case. Well, now the same exact thing has occurred with my iPhone 5s. The worst thing is when I plug it in for a charge, i'll check it hours later and it never charged because of the cable issue. And I can't keep monitoring the case to see if it's charging or not all day long. This is a frustrating exercise in poor quality product design/manufacturing. This will be the last Mophie product I purchase, until they start taking the quality of their products seriously. I mean seriously, not much point in purchasing a battery case that you can't charge.

    Taking it back

Can't remove case. If you want the mophie to double as a permanent case and battery juicer -- it's great. Otherwise, assume you will break either your nails or the case when you want to remove it.

Decent, but I have some complaints.

I got sick of carrying around the juice pack and decided to pick up one of these cases. I put together some pro/cons to help potential buyers.

    -power on the go
    -fairly compact package
-able to sync while in the case

-Adds significant bulk to the iPhone
-The two pieces of the case must connect properly or else it will not work.
-Even when battery is fully charge it stops charging and I have to remove and reconnect the case.
-Gives off considerable heat when charging in my pocket.
-Rarely do I feel I get 120% charge. When I switch it on to charge when i'm around 20% it gets it to 100% but won't charge anymore than that.

I might also pick up a juice pack XL to supplement this case.

    Provides confidence

By more than doubling our online time, each member of our five-member family with their unique requirements, feels confident their daily phone time will be available with their iPhone/Mophie units. I've also gifted a few to friends, who've appreciatively expressed similar reactions.

Charges only 80% of the 120% promised!

    • Written by from Miami

They promised up to 120% of extra battery. I got only up to 80% using the recommended charging and handling procedures. The cable is to short and they use the old mini usb instead the new unrestricted Lightning .
Expensive, $119.95 plus tax! I not recommend this mophie juice pack plus!
