Had it charged in 20 minutes, and was playing with my children in no time. They had a blast. We had 3 live users and one AI, and everyone was able to win at least one race. Tons of fun.

Our 4.5 year old girls learned to play it in minutes and had a lot of fun. That is of course after hours of intensive play testing by the parents :)

    Great product!

This product is fun to play with alone and a blast with other people. I purchased the starter kit and both additional cars at the same time so I can play with up to 3 others. Setup was simple and the cars only take about 8 minutes to charge for 20 minutes of play time. Definitely worth a look!

All I have to say is AWESOME. This design and concept is revolutionary to the future of gaming and well, most all industries. It is crazy to think of the technology that goes into this. And the craziest thing about it is that it works without a flaw. It's simply awesome!!!!!

    Excellent Game

    • Written by from Ballwin

Have had it for about a week now. Love it. Everything on my kit works great. I'd encourage anyone to get all 4 cars. It's a lot more fun with 4 racing at a time. Also, in response to people talking talking about battery life. They charge FAST! Also, my cars have an on/off switch. It's a little grey button underneath just behind the rear axle. Happy racing!

We bought this as a Christmas gift and my son loves it. Anki customer service alerted us to a potential problem before we even opened the gift on Christmas Morning. They took steps that really surprised me to make sure my sons Christmas was awesome.

    Great Family Fun

    • Written by from Baltimore

Someone else posted "boring after 10 minutes." Well of course...it is a complicated game that requires effort to build skills. It is also best played with friends. That is what makes it exciting! Our 10 and 11 year old kids are very competitive and love it. We love it because they actually want to put down their video games and play in the real world. We also love it because it is FUN! How can you not want vehicles with guns and tractor beams? It's everything you fantasize about when following a slow driver in the fast lane. Great quality parts, a young company that is very responsive on their forum, and a truly unique blast of a game. Good luck Anki!

    Not that great..

    • Written by from Burbank

First things first. I see the draw of such a product, but having played with it for about 2 weeks I think it is not that great. Here is why: The batteries drain very quickly, which is not surprising since they are tiny. Two matches and it starts telling you that the battery is low. If you cannot wrap the match up you will get disconnected from it. They do charge rather quick though. 10 mins or so.
Many times at least one of the cars signals that it is off the race track, even though it is still driving on it - and more often than not it won't "normalize", resulting in the only option, which is to end and restart the match.
Quite annoying. Many times the arc of fire is inaccurate. And the race track smells pretty bad (chemical) and still does so after two weeks, even though I aired it outside. I have 2 cars, being the starter kit and the cars bump each other already pretty often. I can only imagine with 3 or more it turns into a wrecking derby..which disrupts the game.
This game is a good start perhaps, and when everything works it is fun but not worth $200. I will return it.

    Fun for the Entire Family

    • Written by from Austin

We bought this and it has taken over our family room with laughter and fun. It is a throw back to the the ole AMX track car days on steroids. Watch out for minor problems when updating. When problems pop up call their support line and BAAM the problem is solved by a very smart, customer oriented, and helpful, customer service tech. They do not fall behind excuses & canned responses, they work with you to quickly solve the problem. The tracks are fun as well. Get all three and enjoy!! I would recommend buying everything on other ISP stores for it is always cheaper and you receive it faster. Apple could learn a thing or two about honest customer service and competitive prices. Fun for ages 10 and up unless you have a gamer youngster in the mix. Buy it if you are sitting on the fence it really is worth it. Have fun everyone!!!

    Worth Every Penny!

I bought the Anki Drive starter kit along with one extra car this holiday...Totally worth the money.
The company is still in its early stages so it is exciting to think on what they will do next. It's very easy to get the support you need
from the company seeing as they have twitter and reply within the day you tweet them. Perfect for the entire family,
my three year old boys can beat the AI on easy :)

Cars are great. Game play software is bad.

    • Written by from Paonia

If Anki improves the software this could be a great game, but in it's current incarnation, it's half-baked. Read on! Review based on 20 hours playing.

Okay, the cars whiz around the track with amazing intelligence. That part is great. Shooting and disabling the enemy (i.e. wife and daughter) is great. HOWEVER, the game concept is stupid. The designers got stuck in the "power up and attain magical abilities" video game paradigm. They've confused the racing game with Super Mario Brothers. Here's the theory behind their game play: as you play and win, you get points. You can trade the points in for upgrades to your cars. These upgrades include powerful armor (that makes you harder to kill), stronger weapons to counter armor, and the ability to do U turns and sudden stops. I've got to admit the U turns and stops are cool.

Apparently the marketing theory is that serious gamers will buy the cars, upgrade as much as possible, and then compete with each other. I can imagine a 12-year-old boy rubbing his palms together in glee, chortling "I now have the neutron bomb upgrade. I can take out anyone!" But what kind of fun is it when you can cream the competition and the game isn't fair?

So what's the problem? The software designers got carried away with cool features (i.e. the upgrade system) and forgot about game play. The problem is that you can't remove "fixed" special weapons from the cars, and you can't remove armor. For example, to start, we had three cars, two whose special "fixed" weapons are tractor beams, and the third whose special weapon is a shield. The tractor beam slows down the car in front so you have a better chance of shooting it. The shield lets you take a lot of hits without being disabled. It quickly became clear that whoever had the shielded car had a huge advantage over the 2 cars with tractor beams. You could basically shoot the shielded car forever without disabling it. As you can imagine, this caused some bad feelings!

The obvious problem to the upgrade model is that 1) someone gets more points, 2) they upgrade, 3) this gives them a big advantage so they get still more points, and 4) they win more games get more points, upgrade more, etc. So they basically run away from the competition and become unbeatable. For example, our sneaky daughter, after racking up thousands of points, upgraded her armor a lot, making her car almost unkillable at the weapon levels of the other cars. The weaker cars had to use the dubious strategy of running around the track as fast as possible like small terrified rodents.

So this isn't really a family game, or even a game for friends, because you can't level the playing field. Anki should develop software that allows the players to reset the cars to defaults, where everyone is even. Or better yet, allow adding and removing weapons and armor without the stupid point system. (I know the programmers put a huge amount of thought and skill into developing the point system, but that doesn't negate the fact that it makes the game play terrible.) If you could equip a car with whatever you wanted, whenever you wanted, it would be easy to level the playing field. For example, you could assign handicaps to better players by giving more abilities or weapons to poorer players (like poor old dad, who, after all, foots the bill). It would be fun to play a game in which one person said, "I want to play this game with no shields, a powerful weapons, and the ability to stop dead." And another player says, I'm going for powerful shields and the ability to U turn." It's sad that such a potentially awesome game is crippled by the myopia of the developers.

They did just release a software upgrade that does allow removing some upgrades. But the critical special weapons and armor is still not removable. I'll upgrade this review if they do a significant upgrade of the software.

Excellent with a lot of potential

    • Written by from Dallas

I already had a positive customer support experience with Anki so I can check off that box. The game was easy to set up. Worked perfectly the first time. The racing mat attracts dust/hair or anything else in the air. I found myself paranoid and trying to wipe the mat a good bit. The game is very fun indeed. Can't way to add another car. The cars do spin out quite a bit and if they run off the track you need to clean the wheels before putting them back on. That is distracting and is almost like a timeout and takes out some of the excitement momentarily. All in all a very fun game with improvements to be made and potential neat ideas for future use. Packaging was excellent but too much. They could save themselves money and still be Apple-esq. I would highly recommend this for adults or kids. Great innovative product.

    As Advertised!

    • Written by from Midvale

It's not often that the advertising is as good as the product. Great fun as long as you treat the cars and the track as instructed in the manual. I can't wait to race against all of my friends and family. It takes me back to my slot car racetrack when I was 11 years old but without the cars constantly flying off the track plus the addition of lasers, tractor beams and future upgrades! Racing against the A.I. is great fun and is polishing my skills for human opponents.

Fantastic blend of new technolgly with old school fun

    • Written by from Clarksville

The Anki DRIVE racing game opens up a whole new level of fun for the home. For too long the children (and adults too) have sat in front of a video game console, interacting only with the television screen.
Enter ANKI Drive. A road race game that goes to new heights with interaction and competitiveness. The game is superb from the minute you open the box. A roll out track that needs no wires to connect. 2 rechargeable race cars with their own cradles. Not only can you play against another friend but you can also set one car as an AI (artificial intelligence) that will make a worthy opponent.
Anki is not just a simple race around the track game. You control the speed and inner or outer lane position. The idea is to score points on the opposing car(s) to disable them. Flashing lights and sounds add to the fun. You can slow the other car down with your tractor beam. When the opposing car is hit it stops temporarily and the opponent scores a point. You set the game points (standard is 5). When one player wins the losing car spins around the center area.
The iPhone or iPad interface is great. Your winning points let you "buy" upgrades to your race car at the "garage"
Anyone can play this. The cars will not go off the track usually unless one car is hit by another. Then the system will announce "return car to track"
It is about as cool as you can get. Children and adults will enjoy this. game Not a huge learning curve like with a video controller with 2 joysticks and 6-8 ambiguous buttons.
Anki promises more upgrades to come this year. More racing challenges, and other ways to enjoy the game.
The cars do not have an overly long charge capability, but they do recharge quickly once docked. Lights go from red to green when charged. Also if you do not have an Apple product you are out of luck, No Android capability as of yet. This could be a negative for some but many people have an iPhone and an iPad for at least 2 person play. Maximum is 4 cars at once.
At $199 I think you get a lot of technology and fun for the money. A lot of though went into this design. The game is not for little children without an adult there to supervise.
This is a winner from start to finish.

    Spectacular Fun with Endless Possibilities!

    • Written by from Pooler

So, here is the thing...this isn't just a racing game that you control with an Apple device. It is intelligent, emerging technology, and better than any racing game on your PS4 or otherwise! Not only can you constantly build up and upgrade your device. but the artificial intelligence that constantly challenges your abilities is second to none. Kudos to the folks at Anki for creating a game that can be upgraded and evolve over the OS system. What a fantastic product! I urge anyone to try this out...it will not disappoint!

Since my son got his Anki Drive system on Christmas, he's been playing daily racking-up the points to customize his cars. We now have three cars, because the AI system is awesome enough so that both my son and I like to take on the AI system together. See if we can beat it. It's loads of fun and reminds me of my old groove racetracks of old... Minus the groove, and the clicker, and the artificial intelligence and the machine guns... LOL! Thank you Anki Drive!
