Mophie Juice Pack for iPhone 5s

    • Written by from Albuquerque

Had I known that this juice pack would not give me a 100% charge , I would not of spent $100 for it. I am currently on my 3rd juice pack, all having the same problem. What a waste of my money. My recommendation is don't waste your money.

The adaptor cord stopped working after a couple months

    • Written by from Tulsa

I was excited about getting this juice pack after having one on my I-phone 4. A different charging cord is not convenient. The adaptor for speakers is stiff and makes the i-phone way to long for sitting in the space in my car. my adaptor cord started shorting out after a couple months and doesn't work at all now. Also my charger port doesn't alway connect, I sometimes have to connect it ten times to get a response. Don't think I'll be buying anymore Mophie's.

    Manufacturing problem

    • Written by from Desert view

I recently bought a mophie juice pack and I wanted to upload some of my photos via port and I took the bottom off but the glue came undone and a part of my case was stuck to my phone and had to be pried off. This is not suppose to happen.

Good case but not without its issues...

    • Written by from El Paso

I've had this case for about 8 months now. This case does offer more phone protection as it covers all sides really well. A little too well. In order to access the headphone jack, you now have to use an auxiliary extension cable that comes with the case. The only problem is that these cables give out and a replacement is to the tune of $10 each. After a little research, I found that many users had to replace their cable fairly soon and fairly often. If you don't utilize this extension, most headphone jacks won't fit into the Mophie case. My Bose earphones did fit but the fit was so snug that disconnecting became an issue and I eventually ruined a great pair of headphones.

When I have found the need to charge my phone, I noticed the case gets pretty hot. Also, it will not charge my phone to 100% (another situation I have found many users have an issue with). My case did come with a charging cradle which I really like. The case does add some weight to the phone but it's what you can expect when adding a battery. Overall, I like the case but I dislike the lack of access to the headphone jack. It offers great protection to the phone but with subpar phone charging. In an emergency it will charge your phone enough to maybe 80% but I suppose that's much better than being on empty.

Failed within 1.5 months, got a replacement within a week

    • Written by from Pasadena

Bought it towards the end of April and in the first week of June it all of a sudden stopped charging when connected to wall outlet or computer. Tried another cable and still would not charge. Also would not "pass through" to charge the iPhone if in the case. I used the pack about once a day to charge my phone, never dropped it and the connector wasn't bent. Contacted mophie customer support and was given a shipping label and RMA to send the unit back, got a replacement unit within a week.

Three stars for the quick turn around for getting a replacement unit, too bad there is something wrong with this design given the other reviews. My fiancé's has one for the iPhone 4S and it has multiple scars from being dropped, still working after 1+ years. If yours fails for no good reason, then at least mophie will send you a new one quickly.

    Poor quality

My mophie will no longer charge due to a shoddy micro usb port receptacle
Just out of warranty. Will opt for a different brand.
I would recommend to stay clear of this product.

    Micro USB port ALWAYS fails

    • Written by from Edmonton

I had previously bought the Juice Pack for iPhone 3Gs. The micro USB port failed (stopped charging the unit) after about 3 months. I tried multiple cables to no avail. Mophie replaced the unit under warranty without issue, but the charging port failed on that one as well after a few months, and the warranty was no longer valid for another replacement. I wasn't going to spend another $80 on another one of these. I did buy one more on eBay for $20, and surprise, surprise... the micro USB port failed in fairly short order. I was determined to never buy another Juice Pack.

Several friends/family had the Juice Pack for the iPhone 4/4s and found them reliable. When I got my iPhone 5s I gave the Pack Air for iPhone 5s a try, in case Mophie resolved the reliability issues. No dice; I bought mine in January, and in 5 months, the micro USB port failed again. Mophie replaced it under warranty, but no doubt the port will fail on this one as well.

For a product in the range of $100, this is simply not acceptable .Mophie should surround the port in resin to protect the wiring from failing with repeated cable insertions. Either the Mophie engineers are lazy, or not very good engineers if they can't overcome this issue. Either that or they deliberately design the juice pack with an artificially low lifespan so you will have to buy more of them.

For my next battery case, I will be looking into alternatives. Perhaps the Mojo Refuel Aqua since it's a waterproof battery case. It's a shame because Mophie's products are certainly the most visually appealing, but their build quality is very poor.

    Excellent iPhone Case!! :3

    • Written by from New Albany

I recently purchased this case because my iPhone 5 could not last a whole day without a charge! My phone was previously naked & I did not purchase the case for protection but it does offer some. The pros of the case would be that it gives me about 90% charge when I need it on the go. It has a nice matte-rubbery feel to it and is eye-candy to the typical person. Also, it fits together wonderfully & you barely notice that it is two pieces. If you're worrying about it overheating when charging then don't worry, it doesn't. It gives the iPhone a solid feel and it isn't too bulky. The headphone adapter is a bit flimsy but I use the stock Apple earpods so it isn't a problem. I would recommend this to every iPhone user because it is so well built & put together. I guess Mophie really does love us!(:

    Disappointed: Not As Advertised...

    • Written by from Exton

I bought the Mophie Juice Pack Air - iPhone 5s/5. According to the packaging, it's supposed to charge the phone back up to 100% (if you turn the charger on when the battery hits the 20% "red zone"). It has never charged it back up to 100%. Under warranty, I mailed it back the 1st time, hoping it was maybe just a glitch. The new one did the same thing. I asked them about the charging issue, and they said that it depends on how much you use the phone while charging. Basically, don't touch it until it's done charging. I tried that, and it only went up to about 80%. I am disappointed because for $100, it should do what it's advertised to do. It's great to have the back-up battery, but to get the full 100% charge, you might have to buy the one for 120% (even more expensive at $119.95). Warranty is only 1 year.

Garbage... why can't these cases use Lightning?

    • Written by from Seattle

It's so annoying that I have to carry a Micro USB as well as a Lightning cable around now. Why can't they use a lightning cable like the actual phone does? I hate having to look at the port and orient the cable properly... they took a problem that the iPhone fixed and then screwed it up again.

The case itself has a pretty cheap feel to it as well, very soft and painted plastic... it scrapes and looks really ugly.

The battery works okay. But that's about it.

    Mophie = Mullet

    • Written by from rochester hills

unable to sync iPhone 5 with Mophie case In tact.
you must remove bottom portion of case to sync.
To do this simply remove bottom portion of 1985 technology mophie case, plug in iPhone 5 chord, Sync your Iphone5, etc...... how LAME!!! welcome to 1985 mophie, and for only $100.00, hey Mophie watch bathtub time machine and learn from the movie, technology should get better with time make it compatible with the actual device to utilize the chord provided by manufacturer, save money that way, apple bettered their device chord so you don't have to mess with this "side up" to plug in Lame.....
You get 1/2" star for really thinking this through,
    Mopihie = Mullet.

Does what you expect it to do!!

    • Written by from Ypsilanti

All the Nitpicking is irrelevant to the fact that the case does In fact extend your battery way past normal use. I am a heavy user, and need a charge beyond the tiny 1400 Mah battery stuck in these paper thin devices. The case is surprising light too! Function way over form, for the sake of extended battery life.

    Waste of money

I purchased my juice pack on a Sunday, by Tuesday it wouldn't charge. It's a waste of money. I wouldn't tell anyone to buy it because it's a complete waste of money. And when I went to technical support they never emailed me back.

    Junk!

    • Written by from Albuquerque

I had the Mophie Juice for the iPhone 4S and it worked pretty well. This new one for the iPhone 5 is a pice of junk. It heated up yesterday at work and now refuses to hold a charge. I only had it for about 3 months. If I could give zero stars I would.

    Decent Product

    • Written by from Harrisburg

So, no.... It does not charge up to 100% like Mophie advertises. With that said, it does give an extra 85% charge (for me) on my 5S. To me, that's worth it. I only have to charge my phone at night now while I sleep rather than bringing a charger with me everywhere.

The size of it is a little big, but it's truly not too bad for someone with larger hands. It actually gives the iPhone some much wanted heft. It also has a lay-on-table design which when placed on the phone's face, prevents the screen from touching the surface of the table.

I like everything about this case, but because of the fact that it does not charge up to 100% as advertised, 4 stars.

    Pros
    + Case is sturdy

    Cons
    - Uses mini-usb connector??
    - Only gives me between 20-25% of a charge when NOT IN USE. Will pursue their money back guarantee.

    Major Problem with Mophie

    • Written by from San Francisco

Used mophie once, and immediately caused my iPhone 5 not to be able to charge without it. I tried plugging my phone into my MacBook Pro, into the wall, tried using different cables etc. The only way to charge it was with the mophie. I called apple support, they ran a quick test and determined that my battery was failing and that I had a hardware issue. My friend had used the mophie and immediately had the same problem. I now have to go into apple for hardware repair.

I don’t think Apple should be selling/promoting a product that harms the phones. Totally disappointed.

    Unusable

    • Written by from Cupertino

Who wants to carry another cable to charge? Why didn't they build it with a thunderbolt socket? It is just ridiculous. Also, the headphone jack needs an extension (which comes with the product) once you put the Juice pack. Absolutely inconvenient. We have to carry that extension, almost like a stylus!

I made the mistake of buying this junk today. I have to return it.
