    Don't buy it !!!!

Pure garbage. Backup is supposed to be reliable, not constantly failing. I swapped 3 and they all have failed using time machine within months. I mean really, its not like I'm carrying this device around with my laptop. They just bought poor quality components with low MTBF and packaged it in a nice enclosure to save cost.

    Completely Unreliable

    • Written by from Spokane Valley

I had bought my FIRST My Passport for Mac when I got my new MacBook Pro. It lasted for about a year when I started to have trouble (like everyone else it just stops showing up in finder). I called WD customer service, who diagnosed a faulty cord, which was replaced. The hard drive itself failed about a month later. To their credit, WD customer service replaced it with a new My Passport, which lasted about 6 months before I had to erase and repartition it. That replacement HD failed today (3 months later) and is being replaced with yet another one, this time a different model. So! decent warranty and customer service - horrible, unreliable product. Here's hoping that the My Passport Ultra is somehow more reliable than it's Mac formatted brother.

I have potable hard drives that are 10 years old and still functioning flawlessly. I used this as my Time Machine back up drive. I'm afraid I've lost a lot of important data on this drive. Please do not buy this. You have been warned.

    What's that clickin' noise?

    • Written by from Venice

Failed miserably and without warning < 1 year old. I moved the computer twice, taking care to not hit anything with the external drive attached. Anybody familiar with Henry Cho's comedic skit, "What's that clickin' noise?". It's this drive, when it failed. At least Henry made me giggle. This drive made me sad. How many dang drives to I have to buy before I find one good one? I just bought an OTW Mercury On the Go - supposed to be less fragile. We'll see.

    Didn't last.

    • Written by from Parker

Unfortunately My Passport didn't last too long. Used it with my iMac and the last 2 days get error messages "Unable to complete backup. An error occurred while creating the backup folder." Tried a manual backup and got a message it ran out of space, even though 793 GB of 1 TB are available. It was easy to hook up and I liked it while it did work, but it failed too soon. I can't recommend this product, especially after seeing similar reviews about it not lasting.

    Buyer Beware

This hard drive is horrible, only lasted about 7 months. The worst part of the situation was none of the data was retrievable. You've been warned.

    Horrible

    • Written by from Conroe

This is a horrible product. I bought one about two years ago and for the entire first year it would randomly eject and then require a different USB cable for it mount again. At the end of the first year it died completely and would not mount at all. This drive was replaced by WD support, which I appreciated, but now regret having put my faith in this product a second time (fool me twice). The second drive had all of the exact same problems as the first and even failed permanently after 9 months. I've never had one of these hard drives last longer than 9 months and I STRONGLY DISCOURAGE anyone from considering this product.
