Good when you need a charge but it is not durable

    • Written by from Pound Ridge

I am very careful and gentle on my products and this only worked for about a year, after a year...
the bottom no longer stays attached due to repeated removal for connection to lightning connector, the headphone adapter no longer works, one channel cuts on and off. Attempts to get parts from mophie haven't been successful as it's out of warranty? So it is basally a disposable product. They did offer me a 10% discount on something new if I was interested. I'm not.

    Virtually No Protection

    • Written by from Scarsdale

I bought the Moohie Juice pack mainly for the battery, but did expect it to provide at least some protection for the phone. However, when I dropped it on the floor by accident from waist level, the glass shattered like ther was no case at all. Now I have to pay $150 to replace the glass. There are other battery cases that I am sure offer more protection.

Cannot charge Mophie battery in the car

    • Written by from East Meadow

The mophie does not work with car adapters by design according to their Customer Support. You MUST use a adapter connected to 110 volts, in other words a wall outlet, in order for the mophie battery to charge. I found this out the hard way when I purchased the Mophie because I was going to Europe. Did a lot of driving and walking. When I wanted to switch over to the mophie, it was dead. The other problem is when you use the mophie cable to charge the IPhone battery in your car, and only the IPhone battery, the car does not recognize the IPhone via the USB adapter. You cannot play any of your music via the cable. Again, confirmed by mophie customer support. Badly designed product and even worst, not disclosed on the website

Great Product But Recent Quality is Suffering

    • Written by from Henderson

I have owned many Mophie cases, and I am sold on the idea. They do not add too much bulk and also look sharp. I have noticed that in the past two years, since the 5 and 5s/5c, the quality though has gone down. I have noticed that the metal insert for charging tends to get bent and thus you can no longer connect to the charger. Also i have noticed that the bottom piece sometimes gets bent as well, and it will not fit into the main part of the charger. Others have complained about reduced quality with the charger cord itself. Evidently, they switched suppliers and the products or just charger assembly are not made overseas. in my opinion, the quality of the product has suffered. Shame, because i really like the product!

    Charging Problem

    • Written by from Monterey

After about 6 months, when charging off the Mophie, the phone and case gets very hot. I have had a Mophie on my iPhone 4s and did not have this problem.
Will not replace with another because of this.

    best option, but not great

    • Written by from San Francisco

    pros:
    +Looks good
    +Feels good
    +Not too heavy
    +It works

    cons:
—The case adds bulk to the bottom of the phone, which is fine, but means use of the included "pass-through" adapter is necessary for most headphones and definitely for the Square credit card reader dongle. This feels awkward and is just one more "thing" to own and keep track of
—Both because of the bulk at the bottom of the case and because of the "micro" port of the case, the included "micro USB cable" is necessary for charging. This means any lighting-to-USB cords, charging stands, or audio systems that are compatible with iPhone 5 are no longer unusable
—I find it very difficult, nigh impossible, to separate the case to expose the bottom of the iPhone, in order to access the phone's lighting port for said accessories. The snug fit is important to ensure the connection between the case's battery pack and the phone, but in this instance it's too much of a good thing.
—Once I finally do separate the case into its two parts, it's then very difficult to get the phone out of the case. Mophie expects users to keep their phones in the cases at all times, but it's short sighted given the limitations.

In short: Not a very thoughtful design, Mophie. I'm disappointed but haven't come across a better solution to extend battery life.

I'd like to think that Apple could do better with the native iPhone battery so users wouldn't need to seek out third-party solutions, which end up being less than perfect.

Great at first, then not so much.

    • Written by from Richmond Hill

I got this in Dec 2013, and worked great for 1 month, and each month to today (March 2014) it got worse (charged less). Now (like one other reviewer posted) it charges 9-10% in just a minute or two then dies (and gets really hot). I got the black one, and never had paint issues (because perhaps it's not painted [the whole plastic is black]), but I did drop it and the side, being plastic, chips away.

    Terrible product

    • Written by from COLORADO SPRINGS

The juice pack for the iPhone 5 sufferers some of the same problems as the 4 and 4s. I am working on my 2nd case and I can see the problems starting again and the problem is this.
Once you turn the switch on for the battery pack to start charging your phone the pack will continue to cycle on and off and doesn't stop. you can play with the switch or plug it back in to the charger cable and it will stop for a few minutes then it happens again. eventually nothing will work and the pack will continually cycle through the on/off. at $100 a pop and only lasting 6-12 months its a hard pill to swallow

    Needs a Lightning port

    • Written by from Woodland Hills

So when it comes time to plug it into your car...it has a micro USB port. When I realized I would have to take the case off to hook it into the car I returned it. I don't understand the point of this at all...everywhere I need to plug my phone in I have a lightning adapter, not USB, and it can't talk to my car or laptop that way... :(

    Great, for 2 months...

    • Written by from New York

Had it, used it sparingly when traveling, and now after 2-3 months its toast. No longer re-charges my phone. I guess you're just supposed to spend and extra $400 a year just to be able to stay on the iPhone 5 for more than 5 hours a day.

below average - only get it in a jam

    • Written by from Somers Point

The case is bulky, but I knew that. The problem is the Helium doesn't cover your buttons so they are exposed and difficult to access.

The case is also difficult to get on and off and scratched my iphone... I prefer to use a regular (mesh 210 case and then bring out the Mophie when I need it, so taking it on and off is a problem.

Bottom line - I returned it - I will try the Air

    Good, but not good enough

    • Written by from Toronto

    1. Cant sync to iTunes/computer
    2. Doesn't use Iphone charger (uses micro usb)
    3. Doesn't charge with all 3rd party micro usbs
    4. Requires a headphone adapter
    5. A bit bulky, but not terrible

Could be alot better, seemed like they rushed this and got lazy. It will still charge your phone tho.

Great Concept Poor Execution on 5

    • Written by from new york

THIRD Mophie for Iphone 5 in less than 2.5 weeks. First one just stopped working after a week, second one they gave in store was buzzing constantly so I walked out and walked back in and the manager promptly exchanged it. Now one week since then I went to charge it this morning (charged fine the night before last) and it just stopped working again.

    THREE MOPHIES?! Grrr....

    STUCK TO MY PHONE

    • Written by from London

Honestly it wont come off, it is so frustrating that I have to go back to the apple store because it is stuck to the bottom of my phone. Other than that case appears nice after a day but man oh man this is a huge inconvenience not what i expected for $100.

Allows Dirt Inside Case which will cause many scratches.

    • Written by from Jacksonville

Bought the Mophie Helium the day it was released. I loved my Mophie Juice Pack Plus for the 4s and so figured the Helium would be the same. Nope. It communicates through several more windows around the phone allowing dirt particles in-between the case and the phone. After it being inside the case for a month I took the phone out to find small circles of worn out finish all around the bezel. This never happened with the 4s Juice Pack.

I hope Mophie comes out with a sealed version as this one just allows too much dirt inside.

    Flimsy, Overpriced Garbage

    • Written by from Tucson

For this much money, not to mention the long wait for it to hit the market, this case is a singular disappointment. It does not fit the phone as snugly as it should, it scuffs easily and most important, it is very flimsy! I just broke it by pulling the bottom half from the top to check for a connection problem. Definitely not worth the money. One more thing: you need a separate dongle (Mophie provides) to use the headphone jack because the case is too deep. Apple, are there any plans to use quality controls on manufacturers of products made for your devices? If so, start here!

Poor design but serves its purpose

    • Written by from meycauayan

I bought my mophie helium for my new iphone 5 and noticed when i placed the case, it doesnt fit perfectly and makes its look not really good. Secondly, the rubbery coating easily peels off and its terrible and making my phone looks very cheap and i hate it.. Overall it does what it is designed to do- to partially charge the phone and thats it, aesthetically, nit really good

    Nissan does not recognize iPhone

    • Written by from Lebanon

I really liked this case, and then I jumped in my car, Altima, plugged in my phone with Mophie to the USB and figured out I had to settle for FM radio, or take the mophie case off and use the apple USB cable. Very lame. I want to listen to the music on my iPhone 5 while in the car, and not have to remove the mophie case.

    Annoying

    • Written by from Toronto

The concept of this thing is cool. The size and weight aren't a prob. But the connector that connects to the USB at the bottom of the phone seems to have a mind of its own. Every single time I turn on the iPhone5 I have to jiggle the bottom piece until it "connects". For something made for an iPhone 5 it does not seem to be a good fit. Really regretting this purchase.
