    Perfect for Time Machine...

    • Written by from Phoenix

I use the Seagate 1TB Backup Plus in conjunction with Time Machine as an automatic backup for my 15" MacBook Pro running Maverick - the product offered easy setup and works flawlessly for my scheduled and regular backups. Great product and a reasonable price. I only wish it was solid-state rather than a mechanical drive.

I use a similar drive as a backup hard drive for storing photos and customer files when I travel. My data is critical so I backup a lot.

    Don't Buy This

    • Written by from Mississauga

Purchased this just two months ago and started to have connection issues. Initially it would disconnect for no apparent reason and then suddenly reconnect. Problem is at the point now where connection happens randomly. Good thing everything is backed up to another EHD! I CAN say that Seagate customer service is helpful because I'm getting a new one shipped - but at my expense. From what I understand it would appear that this connection issue has been enough of a problem that the case was changed to one single piece and therefore few questions were asked by their technical/warranty departments other than for my shipping address and credit card information. Definitely would not purchase this again.

    Hopeless to install

    • Written by from Amsterdam

Absolutely hopeless to install. Whatever I try, it will not function. How can Seagate create something so complicated out of something so simple??

    Died after 6 months

    • Written by from Milford

It worked great for 6 months then just stopped backing up files. I was glad it was not my only back up system. Would not recommend this unit.

    Don't buy

    • Written by from San Rafael

Product eventually fails; mechanically. Simply don't by 2.5 drives for backup. Disappointed in my expectation.

    DIED after 5 months

    • Written by from Long Valley

I bought this drive to free up space on my hard drive. I had all my pictures and videos on it. Loved how seamless it was to use and portable. Five months later the drive DIED. Talked to Seagate and they said "sorry we can replace it. If you want to try to get your data you can send it to us for a cost of ~$1,000 to recover data but it may not work." An Apple employee was kind enough to look at the drive but had no luck.
I will never buy another Seagate drive again. If their products die within one year, they should attempt to retrieve data for free, not make additional profit from their poor product performance.

Great Drive - Ditch the Software

    • Written by from Mount Juliet

I love the drive... it is extremely fast and USB 3.0 powered. Very portable and the only thing I had to do was delete the SG software to free up that space. I use it to store my music and movies on my Mac Mini Server, and I can just pull it and take it with me to watch movies on my MBP. Brilliant!

    No problems after 6 mos.

    • Written by from White Lake

Purchased this drive to replace an iomega eGo Helium I bought over 3 years ago for my Mid-2010 MBP 13. Even though this drive is only 5400 rpm the USB 3 makes it noticeably faster than USB 2 at backing up my late '12 MPBr 15.

    Worked great!

Not a single problem - works perfectly - no issues. It's a hard drive - does what it is supposed to - stores things.

    Seagate 1TB Portable External Drive

    • Written by from El Sobrante

The minute I plugged this in to my brand new 27" iMac trouble started. First it froze my computer. Then I spent over an hour with the SENIOR Mac genius trying to reformat it and partition it and every other thing you could do to it all to no avail. Maybe I just got a lemon, so I'll try one more. But after this experience...I'm not too hopeful. They say it's "MAC formatted" right out of the box, that was certainly not my experience.
