    Good idea... Bad Execution!!

    • Written by from Martinez

If you use a case for your iphone, this charger will not work! Let me repeat that... if you have your iphone in a case and plug it into this charger, it will not connect in order to charge. This lightning "plug" is too short!

Belkin, good idea, bad execution! Most iphone users have some type of case so the lightning "plug" should be a bit longer!

However, if you have to take the case off or if you don't use a case this is a easy charger to use.

    Belkin dock

    • Written by from Bayswater

Really disappointed in this product worked a couple of times. Since then it will not charge and have tried switching phone of and docking to charge, still will not charge. Frustrated paid $29 and useless. Ok I have 5 and wife a 5c.... Neither charge. Tried with iPad mini and guess what, same answer. Apple don't sell something that is not qualified to maintain quality. Grrrrrr......

Does Not Work with a Case !!!!!!

    • Written by from Smiths Falls

A waste of $50. The first reviews you read are misleading. This product does not allow the use of a case when charging. Yu must remove the case before using it.

does NOT work with SPECK case on iPhone 5

    • Written by from JAMAICA

Title of review say sit all - despite what u may read on Belkin website it does NOT connect to the Iphone5 when the SPECK case is on. So I returned it and got the Belkin charger for iPad with the adjustable base/plug - and as an FYI - THAT also doesn't work with the SPECk case ON ! In fact when attempting to remove my speck case to make cartain that the connection was failing due to the case interference and not a mft defect, the SPECK case the case "ripped/cracked" by the volume buttons. So the Belkin iPhone charger went back yesterday and tomorrow the belching iPad /iphone charger goes back along with the supposedly indestructible SPECK case that cracked when attempting to remove it.
U cannot use a BELKIN charing dock if u want to leave on a SPECK case.

Does not fit a phone with a case

    • Written by from Oakland

The product description, or a question answered on this site mentions that this dock will work with your iPhone in a case. This is incorrect and untrue.

I have an iPhone 5s and the apple leather case, as well as the Tavik OUTER EDGE Bumper Case for iPhone 5 keep the phone from connecting to the lightning connector.

Sure, I could try to find a case to work with my dock, but the point here was to find a dock that worked with my case.

I would not recommend this to anyone looking to NOT take their phone out of the case before docking it, which is KIND OF a pain in the waist.

    Not functional

    • Written by from Austin

Will not connect with even a low profile case on your phone. Why do they not build these things with an adjustment system of some sort to accommodate they extra length needed to connect without removing the case? I am not going to take the case off my phone every time I want to dock it/charge it.

Doesn't work with the iPhone 5s cases

    • Written by from Orem

Why can't someone make a doc that will work with a case? The lightning connector needs to be about 2mm longer and it would work with the case one. As it is, it's useless. Who is going to pull their case on and off just to dock. I bought this for my wife for Christmas and it's going back.

Difficult to get iPod in and out of dock

    • Written by from CHICAGO

I bought this because I listened to other people's reviews--the positive reviews that popped up first on the page. I'm very sorry I listened to the five-star reviews, instead of reading more of the one star reviews. All I wanted was a dock I can put my iPod into and out of easily. I'm telling you, this is not that.

They say that this will work for an iPhone 5 or an iPod 5. I suppose it might work better for an iPhone, but I hated it for my iPod. The back of the charger does not correspond with the back of the iPod, so it's extremely difficult to align your iPod to actually plug it in. Hello, that is the entire point of a dock! Not only that, but the dock is too light, so you can't remove it with one hand. In fact, I found it kind of difficult to get it unplugged it all.

I also have an iPhone 5, but it is in a case. With the case on, it absolutely will not plug into the dock.

I'm returning this and am very sorry I did not read the reviews more carefully. When there are almost as many one star reviews as five-star reviews...I should've known better. I hope my review helps someone to avoid this dock and the hassle of returning it.

Will NOT work with iPhone 5s seated in the Apple Case

    • Written by from Gloucester

Just to confirm that if you have the new and very cool slimline Apple iPhone 5s case, designed specially for your great new iPhone, it will NOT fit this dock without having to remove it. I've had to return the item, to my disappointment. The new Apple iPhone 5s case is a type of snap-on and hard to remove/y on quickly. I have yet to see a good quality iPhone 5s docking system that can let you use the iPhone with the apple case. It is not that hard to design by simply extending the lighting connector for it to properly connect. Instead, I will have to buy a iPhone 5s compatible stand or the like and use the existing or new lighting connector cable to my Macbook Air..

    Won't fit a case

    • Written by from Halifax

Despite what the description says, you can't use most cases with this, only cases with nothing on the base of the phone. If there's any additional material (like, Apple's own leather 5S cases) it will not fit.

    Could have been great.

    • Written by from Pewaukee

I would love to leave a glowing review for this product. Unfortunately it falls short in a very important area of the design. You cannot use it with a case on the phone. I have the new 5S and ordered the leather case (very nice) but the thickness of the case prevents the Lightening connector from inserting into the phone. I have no idea what designers are thinking when they build something that precludes you from using some sort of protective case. Now maybe those actors on TV who flash their iPhones as product placement leave them unprotected but in the real world nearly everyone has some sort of case on their iPhone.

    Poorly Designed

    • Written by from Spring Lake

Why oh why do companies continue to make docking devices for Iphones without offering a way to convert it to fit with the most popular cases sold for the Iphones. I rarely see anyone using an Iphone withOUT a case. This is another one that missed the mark. Come on people, advance with the technology but don't forget compatibility with the cases that protect these devices.

A bad accessory for $39.95 plus CA tax

    • Written by from Pasadena

I just purchased the Belkin Charge + Sync Dock for iPhone 5. It's a horribly bad piece of equipment. I have been using the Apple Universal Dock as my standard, since it came out, and through 3 or 4 iPhone upgrades. But when the iPhone 5 arrived, Apple didn't provide an upgrade path to continue using my Universal Dock, even though Apple convinced me to buy it because I would be able to use it well into the future. Not so. So what I did was I purchased the Lightening to 30-pin Adapter - plugged it into my Universal Dock - and glued some old credit cards together to use as a back guard for my iPhone 5. Ugly, but it worked pretty good, even allowing me to plug in external speakers in the back of the Dock to play tunes from my iPhone 5, as I had done for my previous iPhones.

The great thing about this approach was that it allowed me to also plug my headphones into the iPhone 5 (it's on the bottom of the phone, you know), and use my iPhone while docked - make calls, answer calls, edit contacts, send emails, send text messages, and even write notes and more, all while my phone was docked and charging. This enabled me to do work on my MacBook Pro, and work and/or play on my docked iPhone 5 all at the same time. (I could even take out my headphones, and do all the above while using the speakers so I'd never have to take my phone out of the dock to use, but this was never ideal since there are people around making for no privacy).

So I'm thinking, "OK, the Belkin looks really nice. I'll buy it and try it." Bad decision. Can't use my headphones anymore, so I can't really use the iPhone 5 to take and make calls hands free while working on my MB Pro. Not only that, when trying to use the iPhone 5 while docked to send emails, text messages, add contacts (while on the phone for example) and type in phone numbers and addresses, and etc., there's a lag in the iPhone 5 processing key commands while the iPhone 5 is docked. In simple words - this dock is only good for charging the iPhone 5. If you want to use it for anything else, forget it, it's a piece of junk. I've had it for 2 hours. I'll be returning it to the Apple store to get my $43.55 refund for purchase price and sales tax.

Come on Apple, it shouldn't take a genius to create a combination Lightening to 30-pin Adapter with a little plastic back to enable Universal Dock owners to upgrade to iPhone 5s and keep on using their Universal Docks!
