    Great drive

    • Written by from ARLINGTON

I have been using the G-Drive Mini for several months on two different Macs, carrying it in a backpack to and from weekly classes in the Apple Store, to Starbucks, on vacation and to my office. I bought it to use as my drive to store my Final Cut Pro X event, project and output files. At home I connect it to my Mac Mini, while else where to my MBP 13". This drive, connected via FireWire 800, has worked like a charm.

Nice to look at - Terrible Performance

I spent about twice the price of a comparable 1TB hard drive, because I thought a G-Drive would be more reliable than cheaper hard drives. What I found out is that the G-Drive has a noisy fan, the drive generates an excessive amount of heat, and now has finally FAILED. Thank goodness I had a backup of my data, because the G-Drive obviously cannot be trusted. My advice: Do NOT buy this drive.

I currently have no problems with the Gdrive mini. It worked right away and is already formatted for Mac, popped up on my desktop and I was ready to go. Very fast, very sleek little machine. I have not encountered any problems mentioned with this device, but I have not had it very long. I am more than satisfied with my purchase.

"After a few moments your G-DRIVE will appear as a drive on your desktop." I've waited for two weeks, including every variety of included cables, and tracking down and purchasing the optional, now useless $20+, AC adapter. Nice looking, but that's about all. An uglier one one may well be a better product.

After two Lacie power supply failures I decided to switch brands and got one of these. Nicely designed aluminum case and no need for a power supply, it gets power through the Firewire cable. Also comes with a nice carry case and all the cable configurations you could possibly need.

Too soon to tell how long it lasts but all is well so far.

Tried the 2TB Seagate BackUp Plus USB3/USB2 drive first and after partitioning with the Mac10.8.2 Disk Utility--one of the partitions would not mount. After eight hours of trying to fix, I gave up, went to the Apple Store and replaced the Seagate with this 1TB G-Drive mini.

The G-Drive is a very nice drive, as I easily and quickly patitioned for both a SuperDuper Bootable Backup and Time Machine. I think I'll stick with this brand and Firewire.
