Great case if you don't use your phone for talking

    • Written by from Cameron Park

I loved this case the first week I had it until person after person would complain they couldn't hear me. So frustrating! Turns out it's a flawed design. Twelve South and Apple went opposite directions and if you use this case it interferes with Apple's new noise cancelation canceling your own voice.

    DON'T BUY IT

Looks great, poor assembly and user experience

This is my second BookBook for iPhone. I'm disappointed in the quality of this product. It seems that while they look nice on the outside, there are many shortfalls that aren't caught in the QC process. 2 specific examples: after less than a week the glue around the phone holder began to melt and the leather behind it began to separate. This is most likely caused by the heat that the phone puts off (something that obviously should have been taken into consideration). The second issue I had was that you could not talk on it without a headset. When you bent the wallet back to bring it to your ear it covered the noise cancellation microphone which led to me sounding muffled on the other end. This is most likely going to be a problem with all wallet phones. Ultimately, I'm taking this product back and purchasing a 'regular' phone case.

Poorer quality vs previous version of BookBook

    • Written by from PITTSBURGH

In a word, the current BookBook is shoddy, and does not seem like it will hold up well. Mine is about 6 weeks old, and it is delaminating. It sounds like a taped-together thing that is coming apart then making a tacky sound as it sticks, then unsticks. This happens in the backing, under where the phone is clipped in. When I touch the back of BookBook, it makes this sound.

I have faith in the vendor, they will likely send me a new one. But, will they continue to do this every other month or so? Their design is faulty, and the materials seem cheaper and less nice than the previous (iPhone 4/4S bookbook) version.

Quality issues aside, and they are enough to sink this product, is the fact that iPhone 5/5S have a tall/narrow shape. This means the bookbook is tall/narrow...so while it gains an extra credit card slot, it has a narrower money area (it's worse at holding cash that the previous version). One (and really only one) positive about this new bookbook version, is that they included a hole in the back, so one can take photos without removing the iPhone from the case.

I loved my 4S bookbook and it lasted great for the 2 years I used it. This one is failing after less than a couple months, and that's for a $60 product. I can't recommend this, and I will not be buying any more cases from this vendor.

Very cute case. But very poor sound quality.

    • Written by from Los Altos

I originally bought this case for my IPhone 5 and now my new 5S is sitting in it snugly and comfortably. However the sound quality while taking a call is equally poor for both iPhone 5 and 5S. There's something about this case that makes you sound muffled or like you're in a tunnel. If I want to have a decent conversation with anyone I have to take the phone out of its case. This sounds like a pain in the neck and I guess it is but you'll get used to it. I still use my BookBook Vol. V. every day with business cards, health insurance card, driver's license, 2 credit cards and cash, and sometimes I stuff it with receipts, etc.. So it is a very versatile, cute, attractive "storage case". Because you'll end up prying the phone out of the case multiple times a day and carrying it "naked" in your shirt or pants pocket, only to return it to the BookBook case to "store it" when you go out, step into your car, etc.. The case is fun and attractive and occasionally people comment on it but not as much as you'd expect...

Great Design, not up to punishment

    • Written by from Fair Oaks

I really liked this case when I first received it for my birthday. Lots of compliments and having a single case/wallet was great. But for men who might put it in your pocket or give it a little tough attention it wasn't up to the normal usage.

The plastic retainer "ring" broke, pulled away from the cover and the leather lost a ton of dye.

Probably perfect for someone who will keep it in a purse, in their hand or bag.

    Not as good as 4S

    • Written by from Kansas City

I loved my 4s case. Normally don't take the time to write a review. But the iphone 5 version of bookbook case blocks some of the sound when speaking into the phone. I was disappointed and the person on the end of the call was always asking me to repeat myself. Don't waste your money on this product.

Love the design- could use some reinforcement!

I love the design of this case. I get compliments everywhere I go. It only lasted a month before my wife had to "fix it." The bill slot had to be superglued and then hot-glued shut. It ripped with only two bills in it. I only carry my debit card, drivers license, a bill or two, and a folded check. I now keep my bills and check behind the phone. I was also disappointed that the edges were worn looking after two days. I still love it because no one else around has one. I am currently looking for one for a new iPhone 5.
