I've had my BOOKBOOK for 2 years now and it is still in great shape. In fact much like any real leather product it gets better with age. LOVE IT!!!

I love this case! People are alway complimenting me when they see it. They think its a book or a Bible. I have NO problems with people hearing me or I hearing them when having a conversation. As far as the comment stating that it doesn't close, it does close after putting a few business or credit cards in the wallet side, which what it was made for.

Same story - loved it on my iPhone 4, but it ruins the sound quality on the 5. Do NOT buy if you have the 5. All your friends will keep asking you to call them from a land line.

    Not as good as 4S

I loved my 4s case. Normally don't take the time to write a review. But the iphone 5 version of bookbook case blocks some of the sound when speaking into the phone. I was disappointed and the person on the end of the call was always asking me to repeat myself. Don't waste your money on this product.

I fell in love the moment I saw it......purchased it within 5 min of that. The leather is great quality, it's made very well and will last without falling apart.....and the convenience of it.....well, need I say more?? The best thing to have when running an errand and you don't want to drag along your 20lb purse. An evening on the town?....just stick it in your pocket. Men that goes for you too.

I love the product line and have book book cases for my ipad and air. I bought the iPhone 5 case and it causes my voice to be muffled when on the phone. I am very disappointed with this one product.

Wonderful way to store the essentials together

I'm thrilled with this iphone wallet! I previously had a knockoff version that wouldn't close and could only hold two cards, which just didn't work for me. I'm glad that I took the chance on ordering this, even though it was more expensive. The leather smell is wonderful, but the most important part for me is that the spine is crafted like an actual book. It is stiff and already made to account for a full wallet, so it will lie closed even when it has cards and cash in it.

The full wallet fits in the breast pocket of my coats and the back pocket of my jeans, so I can always carry the essentials without needing an entire purse.

    Great Case with one exception

I tried numerous cases for my iPhone 5 before buying this one. I will say upfront that this case will not replace your wallet if you still carry a lot of credit cards and cash. On the other hand, if you're a minimalist like me, then this case is perfect for you.

Like others have stated, the case doesn't close all the way at first. The problem is even worse if you put cards in all 4 credit card slots, or put money in the space underneath them because bill have to be folded to fit there. I carry two cards and my drivers license in mine and lay the case down with the camera side up to keep it closed. I tried putting money under the phone like another user suggested but the phone wouldn't seat properly. I put a folded bill in one of the credit card slots and that's working well. This problem seems to be resolving with use (I've had it for 3 weeks now) as the leather softens.

I haven't had problems with callers hearing me like other users have. I use earbuds most of the time, but also hold the phone in case to my ear without problems too.

Overall, the BookBook for iPhone 5 is a great case and I'm keeping it. It looks good, is made of quality materials, provides great protection and I expect it to last for the lifetime of my iPhone. The only thing that kept me from giving it a 5-star rating is the problem with the case closing when fully loaded.

I was a little unsure about purchasing the Book Book for my new iPhone 5. However, due to me enjoying a case that held just two cards (id), I figured I'd give it a go. I have had it for well over 2 weeks now and couldn't be more happy with my purchase. The edges are wearing well and it definitely looks like an old book, yet it is now the only "wallet" I carry. It has even been a conversation piece at a recent party; friends thought it looked like a little Bible. I do have to admit, the book book does not hold cash well which only allows you to keep a couple bills that must be folded twice to fit. Also, when the case is full it will not stay completely closed unless laid on the screen side, depending on the number of bills you try to put in it. However these two issues are such a small problem that I would never return this case. It was made to show age and looks great doing it. I 100% recommend this for anyone!

ruins sound on iPhone 5, cool look

I had a bookbook for my iPhone 4s and absolutely loved it. couldn't wait to get the new one for my iPhone 5. Looks cool but it muffles the sound even when you hold it open. I don't know if the reviewers who like it have the same problem. Very very disappointed because I love the case but it makes my phone unusable. When I contacted 12 South, they said no one else had the problem and would not give a refund. Obviously thats not true as seen above. It probably just needs a bigger hole for the back microphone but 12 south just seems to ignore it.

Blocks the mic, difficult to hold

    • Written by from Albuquerque

14 of 21 people found this useful

I got my BookBook case from the Apple store in Albuquerque. I thought it would be just what I wanted: one case to hold my iPhone 5, driver's license, credit cards, and cash. I like to keep it simple. After 3 weeks I am utterly disappointed due to multiple flaws.

First, the inside surface of the case is leather, which at first I thought was cool, but then I noticed that that the leather rubs up against the iPhone surface, smudging the glass and leaving a cloudy film that is hard to remove. Not much later, I discovered the microphone problem. I had several phone calls in which the person on the other end had difficulty hearing me. Later I was told by an Apple Genius that the bookbook case blocks the microphone on the back of the iPhone! Now, this only happens if you wrap the front of the case around when you talk. But that is the obvious way to use the case, because otherwise the front just hangs there like an open door, making it very awkward and difficult to hold while you talk. So evidently, Twelve South never actually experimented with using their case with an actual iPhone, bc they should have seen this coming.

Finally, the bookbook card holders are very tight, and if you're like me, you want quick access to your debit card. I'm tired of struggling with the case, pulling and coercing my card just to get it out.

So basically, this case has a cool look and potentially useful design, but it was implemented poorly and so it fails pretty badly. I no longer use it, and at $60, that's extremely disappointing!!!

A nice case, with a couple of caveats

    • Written by from Toronto

The case looks and feels great. I don't have any doubts that it protects the phone effectively, and the fact that it doubles as a wallet is a nice plus (although it doesn't hold as many cards as I'd like).

Two things to keep in mind, though:

    1. I came to the iPhone from a Blackberry so I'm used to the real keyboard. Getting used to the on-screen keyboard has been a pain. It's now taking me two or three times as long to type out short emails, text messages, and tweets.

I'm sure this is normal for anyone switching from a BB, but the design of the case makes this just a little bit harder, especially when you're using an app that won't switch to landscape mode. I've found that when I'm in portrait mode, it's very difficult to type using both thumbs -- folding the front of the case around the back just makes it even harder, given that my left thumb is already a little shaky. If I can't switch to landscape, I'm basically doing everything with my right thumb or index finger. Slows me down.

    2. I've read what some of the other reviewers are writing about the sound being muffled, and I've had that experience occasionally as well.

It is a considerably pretty case, I cannot love it more! Beautiful color and you never worry about whether it will become old.
The feature and color are both fit for girls and boys.
Thanks for my beloved finance to send it to me with the iPhone5 as the Valentine's Day gifts~

I was skeptical at first buying this because of the price and reading the reviews how much bulk it added but on a whim I bought it anyway and I love it. I have gotten a lot of great compliments on it. Yes it is a little pricey, bulky, and it can't close if you stick your money in it but the feel and make of it is a reason why of the price tag is high but hey if you love to brag on a much nicer case then buy all means buy it. I have the brown bookbook with a white iphone 5 and it looks good! Very pleased

I've had a lot of phones, a lot of cases, and a lot of experience with these products. This is by far my favorite. Eliminates the need for a wallet, offers quite a bit of protection for your phone (I would highly suggest using a screen protector in addition to the case), and it look cool. I get complimented daily on the case. Last thing I'll say is the quality of the case is very nice, worth the price tag.

This is better then I thought it would be. It is very well built with top grain leather. Talking on is slightly different since there is a noise canceling mic and you may get some muffling, if you completely fold over the cover to talk. Just leave a small gap. Nothing is perfect but this is close. I love it!

    Great for about 10 months.

This case deserved 5+ stars from me until now. Unfortunately, its defect doesn't matter to the company since warranty ended 2 months ago. The problem has been ongoing since before then, but I thought it was the phone, not the case. After having it for the better part of a year, the leather stretched a bit as leather does. This makes a bit of "play" between the case and the phone, which causes the infrared sensor (at the top of the phone) to be covered by the case when you move your head. So if you want to look at the phone while ON the phone, sometimes the screen doesn't function until you wiggle it back in place. I had the whole OS rebuilt on the phone (losing some data) because my Genius figured the phone was buggy. Luckily I was able to restore the previous backup and get back all my stuff. I've written to 12 South and they won't help me based on it being out of warranty. I'm going to call again and talk to someone else, at least register an official complaint. Another company whose product had a post-warranty defect that was their fault, sold me a new product for about half off. That would be the right thing to do, and then I would be sure to exchange it before a year. Yes, it's silly to get a case that won't last a year, but as I said, this case is great. Although now I'm wondering if the reception problem is because of this as well...it's in the car on bluetooth when people can't hear me.

This i phone case is awesome. The distressed leather makes all the difference in the world. No need to break it in. Just ready to go. Not stiff at all. Very pleased with this purchase. Also, very unique.
