    INCREDIBLE!

I love these things ... not really sure what all of the complaints are about?! But that's okay, as I've had great luck with my order (starter kit and three extra bulbs)! The colors, the intensity, the mood setting, the movement, the illumination, and the app: all are TOP of the line for me! NO complaints here! Just follow the little wheel on the inside packaging for simple instructions to get 'em fired up!

Great as an early adopter product

Yes, they are expensive, not as bright as one may like and the app has room for improvement. But its also a fantastic new concept not available anywhere else. I wired the living room with 10 lights and use a 3rd party app (Ambify) to make them pulse to music. The effect is awesome and great every time there is a party or a playdate in the house.

No fade in or fade out

    • Written by from Barcelona

Overall the product isn't bad but it has 2 big problems:

1 - It doesn't fade in / fade out. Simply switch on or off! To switch lights out and on a timer can do it for less money. The advertisement video clearly shows it, but after several attempts I couldn't do it.

2 - doesn't memorize the alarm, you have to set it each day, again the timer does a better job that this system.

I leave also a suggestion, integration with iCloud to avoid the double work of doing the same light scenes on several devices

I was really looking forward to using these. The bridge kept recycling and rebooting and would not keep a consistent connection so could not control lights. Seems this product is not ready for ther masses yet. Returning for a refund.

    Bridge connectivity not stable

    • Written by from Mobile

9 of 12 people found this useful

First the good news: when the bulbs are connected to the bridge, you can control them any way you want. The light is bright, and doesn't look like an LED.
I wonder if I am the only one who has this problem, but the bridge disconnects from the internet and the bulbs intermittently, sometimes several times a day, sometimes it runs w/o problems for some days. Only power cycle helps, and no, a complete reset doesn't work.
Timer: until now the system is not reliable at all.
APP: sometimes it works well, sometimes it cannot connect to the bridge ort the internet even though all three blue lights are on.
No support link on their homepage.

Very Pleased Good value and performance!

Not a problem at all. My house is super complex electronically. I have used home automation for 20 or so years. From X10) to ZWAVE . Many 2.4 devices with Zwave internet remote locks. It all works. If I was willing to replace all my new Lprize bulbs - it would really add to the lighting environment in my home. I will be happy with 3 or so bulbs for now. The price of the individual bulbs needs to be around $30.00 for it to become a success. This system uses the Zigbee protocol.

There is another plus in that the internet control is free -- there is no monthly charge as is the case with many other systems - Philips does not charge for this. My 6 year old grandchild was able to access the more advanced featured of the app within 5 minutes of use on my Ipad without any adult help. It has great potential for advanced home or office lighting.

    DO NOT BUY!!!

I bought a 3 bulb starter pack a few days ago and it worked great.
However, I since went back to the Apple store to buy three additional light bulbs and none of these bulbs are recognized by the system. I tried resetting the hue brigade/remote and even when putting one of the new bulb in a socket that previsouly worked the new bulb is not recognized. I tried placing the new bulb very close to the bridge. Tried re-installing the iphone app (one never knows...). All of this to no avail. I now have three very expensive ($50 each) light bulbs that are useless. This system is NOT ready for primetime and is buggy. I recommend that everyone stay away from this and do not get tempted in spending the considerable amount of money.
The Hue system is just not working!

    Great Bulb, Lame App

    • Written by from San Diego

6 of 6 people found this useful

I would give the bulb 5 stars, but the app 1 star.

The App loses all its scenes and needs to be reset to mostly recover its mind, but re-downloaded to fully recover. The process of moving a scene from page to page can confuse it. It's a poor remote control, at best, in its current form.

The bulb seems solid and I hope the software will mature to provide better support and automation. Maybe 3rd parties will be allowed to provide a decent app, maybe a "disco" mode to play to my music...

AWESOME! Bought the starter-set it up-ordered ten more bulbs!

Fantastic! Put the first three bulbs into recessed lighting and fell in love. Easy set up, yea, the app could do more, but so relaxing! immediately bought ten more bulbs, I own an A-Frame home and this was a true delight. Read the reviews and was seriously concerned about brightness, not a problem at all! i actually had to dim some of the pre-sets. i cant wait until the rest arrive!

Great New Electronic Product For My Home

I heard Leo Laportte (The Tech Guy) talking about the Apple/Phillips Hue. Without delay, I read about it and the many tech reviews. In short, I purchased one from the Apple Store; drove to my local Apple Store in Madison, MS; installed it in less than 10 minutes; and the family loves it. My only minor problem was I did not have a spare LAN slot on my router (all four already in use. That was easy to solve. My home is "greener" than ever now.

Pleased with the brightness...50w is a reasonable estimate. .I did have to use the IP address, auto find did not work for me. One bulb turns on slower than others and seems to have a slightly different color (could be led color bin or a defect, I will replace under warranty...note: have four bulbs,,,the one that is different was in the starter pack, not the single purchase). Software issue with the fade on and off...just does not work, sure they will get it figured out. I did try many different ways...was looking for a work around or cause. I have not tried the Internet interface for the fade, only iPad app.

Fantasti product with huge potential. App needs some more features

I got the starter pack and immediately popped them in. No issues with setup on either my local lan or remote access. Used multiple iOS devices without any issues. The light is very pleasing. Another 100-200 lumens would be very welcome, but they're good for accent lighting.

A few nits or feature requests that are probably easy to add to the app down the road:

    - ability to set a regular schedule. I haven't tested this yet, but the website indicates that you can only schedule up to 24 hours out, then you have to set it again. Makes an alarm a bit difficult.

    - A default setting other than white.

    - Grouping is a bit confusing. An interface more akin to the way Sonos handles multiple speakers would be better.

    - The ability to do other gradual dimming or lighting in intervals other than 3 and 9 minutes.

    - The ability to define favorite colors to jump to when creating a lighting scheme or recipe. I realize recipes save state, but there i expect there will be times when I want to manually just move between a preset palette.

    - Alerts when a light has been left on for longer than a certain threshold during a certain window. (e.g. why is this light on when the sun rose two hours ago?)

On the hardware side, a few more wishlist items:

    - More lightbulb sizes! I want these in sconces and fans!

    - A wall switch replacement that keeps the power on, but signals the shut off instead.

Great product, my European friends have had LED colored lights for years and was always envious.. now this is a step ahead of those. I do wish the app was more robust however.

    A Bright Idea...

Admittedly I was a skeptic about the value of Hue when it first appeared on the Apple Store shelves. At first it just seemed like another overpriced App Enabled accessory to line the shelves for consumers obsessed with the latest iOS device.

But a couple persistent co-workers convinced me to take a closer look at Hue and I began to realize Hue was more than a cut above the clutter of other accessories. Hue actually impacted my day to day life!

Like other home automation accessories I can set my lights on a timer or turn them on for security before I arrived home at night. But Hue took it a step further. I can customize my bedroom lighting to relax my tired eyes after a long day or energize me in the morning. As my mood changed I experimented with more light patterns.

Overall its one of the best purchases I've made in a long time and worth the price. It will change the way you see light in your home.

Love this product! App needs a *little* work

I had my eye on these bulbs for about two months and finally bit the bullet to purchase them after seeing an article/video clip in the Wall Street Journal about Phillips redoing the lighting for the Empire State Building in LEDs (its pretty amazing).

Now I have an empire state of mind for lighting in my apartment. I love this product. Right out of the box I was like, "I don't know about these.." But once you play with them a bit and figure out how to set the mood for different situations, you'll never go back. I've always been picky about lighting and for the past two months I had been wishing I could turn all my lights off at night without leaving my warm, comfy bed. Phillips took care of my pickiness and my laziness. The concentrate setting works great for studying, the relax setting is amazing for chilling out and, well, relaxing. And those are just two Phillips recipes. If you buy these, check out blue rain at night with your girl -maybe after throwing a party with your friends in the Deep Sea setting over some Clapton and Zeppelin, eh? The possibilities are endless.

My only complaint is that the app is a little shaky sometimes. I'll be reviewing the app in the app store so the developers can get to it.

4/5 because Phillips shouldn't have partnered with novice app developers.

    Note on pairing bulbs

    • Written by from Mountain View

10 of 16 people found this useful

Just a quick note ... to pair new bulbs or re-pair existing ones, you must have the bulb you want to pair in direct physical proximity to the controller. Within a foot is best. Only then will using the app to find new bulbs work. You may also have to press the button on the controller, although that seems to be hit or miss.

Once you complete the pairing, you can move the newly paired bulb to the edges of your mesh network of bulbs.

Just wanted to save anyone else trying to use these bulbs the confusion I went through.

Great hardware, but the software and instructions need a lot of work.
