    Happy with reservations

We bought this to be able to keep eyes and ears on our baby whose room is all the way across the house from ours. We read the negative reviews but figured we'd give it a try.

Setup was easy and took about five minutes and I'm happy with the camera and sound quality. We experience about a one to two second delay which I expected.

The apps need some help. The notifications are buggy and, as many mentioned, often very delayed. This hasn't yet been a huge issue for us because we usually don't rely on them, but that definitely should be fixed, especially in light of the other issues. On the iPhone I love the feature of continuous play so that when my screen times out and locks I still have ears on the nursery. However, it's totally annoying that if I get a call, text message or other notification, I have to go back into the app and reset it to continue hearing. That's not exactly safe for middle of the night emergencies.

The iPad app has the same issues with the added frustration that there isn't a continuous play option. This feature needs to be added to the iPad app so parents like me can let their phones get calls and notifications and use the iPad as the monitor.

Phillips needs to spend some time fixing these issues and then they'd have a great product. Hope they read these reviews.

    Not Good

We realized this product wasn't going to work as a baby monitor when my wife and I began having a conversation by the monitor. A minute after our conversation started we heard it over our monitor. It's hard to tell if there's a delay because you're not in the room normally when you're watching. Maybe a 3 second delay we could deal with, but a minute is WAY too long for a baby monitor.

Also, if you have too many devices connected to the wireless router your connection to the monitor will be terminated.

This is a flawed design and I'm not happy at all with it.

It should be criminal to sell this product as a baby monitor. The title should read: Philips in.sight Wireless aggravation that wont work for more than an hour and keep you up all night

This thing is awful. I want my money back!

Don't trust it. It is delayed and the video cuts off after and hour and then the sound follows it, we have to go to store and find a new one just to feel peaceful at night! Glad this was a gift and I didn't spend money on it, still a huge disappointment.

    Not good for baby monitor!

We purchased this as a baby monitor 3 days ago. It was easy to set up but I noticed right away that there was a significant lag between what was actually happening and what appeared on the screen. Usually about 30 seconds. My biggest complaint was the time it took to open the app. It would take almost 3 minutes to load the camera each time I opened the app on my iPhone. And many times, the app just quit. I am packing it up to return it as I type. Piece of junk.

This monitor was so simple to set up! I love the fact that I can check on my baby at any time and anywhere just by looking at an App on my IPhone. It has a lot of cool features: night vision so you can see your baby in the wee hours, the temperature in her room so I know if it's too warm or cold, the ability to talk to her through the phone (very cool), etc. The monitor is small so it doesn't take up much room. All in all, this is a great product and I would highly recommend it!

DO NOT USE THIS AS A BABY MONITOR!

Read these reviews and the app reviews. This thing is a joke as a baby monitor. I'm sitting here at 4 AM awake and frustrated because the app won't stream video any longer. This monitor was my back up plan and the video I have been using to see my child while traveling. Our main monitor failed earlier this week and while waiting for a warranty replacement, I've tried using this. Absolute junk, the software to support this hardware. Again, read the comments on here. Even with that limited purpose, if two devices have the app open in iOS (not even active) and they have not completely killed the app in their "active apps", a third device can't get in. Seriously, the product (the camera) is OK (quality video and audio) but the whole app (and the website for computers) is terrible. Apple, you need to quit selling this product. This does not work anything close to 'as advertised'.

Again, Do Not Plan To Use This As A Baby Monitor, I implore you. You will be frustrated, disappointed and, quite likely, very angry. I know I am.

My husband and I were thrilled to purchase this monitor. Unfortunately, this product did not meet our expectations.
We were hoping to view our baby live especially for use at night.
Well, so much for the live viewing! This camera works great if you want a still image of your baby and nothing but a dark viewing! It's extremely glitchy as well!
I would not recommend this monitor at all, a back up monitor is definitely a must! It's a good thing we always have our regular audio monitor on!

This product is specifically marketed as a baby monitor, and I will review it as such. I purchased the In.Sight baby monitor this past Saturday for our 8-month-old daughter's room. She is teething right now and sometimes wakes up at night crying very loudly as if something traumatic has happened. We have an Angel Care audio monitor, but we also wanted a video monitor so we can quickly and easily discern whether her life was truly in peril or if she was just having another episode of teething pain.

We bought the monitor from a retail store and brought it home. It took about 30 minutes to get it installed, set up, and running. Not too bad. However, I noticed very quickly that sound from the In.Sight monitor lagged about 10-15 seconds behind the sound from the Angel Care monitor. Additionally, the video signal seemed to lag another 15-30 seconds behind the already lagging audio. On top of all that, from the time I open the App on my iPod Touch 5 to when it finally displays live video ranged anywhere from 1-5 minutes! Sometimes it wouldn't display live video at all until I closed and relaunched the app. This did not seem like a very functional monitor, and I was already debating if I should return it.

The kicker came in the middle of the night Saturday night. We awoke to my daughter's loud crying through the Angel Care monitor (we had the audio off on the In.Sight since we didn't need two audio sources). I attempted to bring up the video on my iPod Touch to check on her. However, the app just sat there with that annoying circling graphic that means "loading" for about two minutes. Finally, the video came up, but the screen was all black. The infrared night vision wouldn't activate. After another minute of thumb-tapping and cursing, I gave up and went in to the baby's room. Turns out she was already almost back asleep, and me entering the room just woke her back up.

Anyway, I took it back to Apple the next day. This In.Sight monitor SHOULD NOT BE USED as a baby monitor! If you insist on using it, make sure you have a secondary "regular" monitor running in parallel. This product is a lawsuit waiting to happen. The potential exists for someone's child to be dead before they ever get any warning that there is a serious problem via the In.Sight monitor. I expressed my concerns to the kind gentleman who helped me with my return at Apple. Believe it or not, he ACTUALLY told me I should tell other potential customers about these issues. SO, that is why I am posting here!

On its face, this product could be a great investment for any parent. But sadly, as I discovered, it doesn't always perform as advertised.

I have a Airport Extreme router in my house, which serves all my other wireless products very well and very fast. For some reason, the camera would sputter and stall, and eventually stop transmitting to my iPhone 4s at all. Even the sound wouldn't transmit. I tried it on my iPad 2 as well. It was better, but still not at all as advertised.

Setup was easy once I read (online, not in the instructions that came with the product) that the camera wasn't compatible with some of the security options I had enabled on my router. Once I changed them, it connected just fine.

In concept, this product would be great for monitoring your baby while he sleeps in his crib. But in practise, it just isn't fast enough to be effective. I'll be returning it to the store and exchanging it for something else.

    Good image, glitchy performance

The key word here is glitchy. I like the fact that you can double tap the clear video image to zoom in. Set up can work smoothly or not. I suspect many reviewers' problems are exacerbated by fluctuations and strength of their Wi-Fi signal. Generally, I find that Wi-Fi products are glitchy by nature. Of more importance here, is the video/audio/alert time delay. The video/audio time lag is 1.5 seconds for me, but about 50 seconds until I get an alert on my iPhone 5. This alert time lag isn't as important to me because I'm monitoring a senior with Alzheimer's, but I would be concerned if I had a baby since a lot can happen in 50 seconds. Also, there is about a 5 second delay when switching between my two monitors. Nothing in the app works instantaneously; there always is a variable time lag. The sensitivity of the audio/video alert triggering varies widely. Sometimes I inexplicably get a video alert and not an audio alert and vice versa, even though I have both set to trigger. On average, I find that I have to reboot something in the system every two days or so because the app/system will just malfunction on its own eventually. I've also found that the In.Sight app interferes with my audio wi-fi speaker recognition by removing the wi-fi option symbol to the right of the volume slider in the audio app. I have to close and restart the audio app to rectify this. So in real life usage, the system works for my application, but not smoothly. I use it because I need an iPhone multi-monitor solution.

Night vision function deteriorates after 5-10 minutes. Not much of a baby monitor if it can only function with full lighting.

Tried to be nice too, but the preview function was mysteriously prohibiting some words

Great potential; Not Ready for Market

    The clarity of the iPhone's camera makes this the most impressive baby monitor I've seen. It's crisp and clear in daylight and works phenomenally in dark. The camera is great. I love the base which has a sticky rubberish bottom and stays secure where you put it. Here's why I returned it and wouldn't recommend buying it;

    1. Video and Audio Lag - After setting up the camera (which was very easy), I noticed that there was a bit of a lag in the audio (about 1 second). Then I noticed that the video stared to fall behind too. Then it got worse and worse until the lag was greater than 10 seconds. Audio and video didn't sync up either.

The product quality is great and the concept is amazing however, for what it's designed to do, it completely fails. I was hoping for face time video and audio quality but it doesn't come close.

A baby monitor is there for safety and piece of mind. Unfortunately, I can't confidently say that this until offers either.

Save yourself some time - DO NOT BUY.

Best monitor out there, app is buggy

Love this camera. Got one for my parents to watch their grandkid on their ipad. This is much better than facetime since they don't have to have someone answer their call just to watch the baby. You can even talk from the app to the camera, but it's not full duplex and the implementation is clunky. You have to hit the mic icon, wait for it to be ready, speak, and hit it again before you can listen again. Depending on your network response, you can spend a minute hitting the mic over and over and there is a 3 second lag.

There is a $24.95 additional charge for the app to open it up, which should really be in the description of the product.

Overall though, being able to tune into the camera from any location from an app is pretty awesome, though there are some refinements that need to be put in place. if you're easily frustrated this might not be for you.

Just got this yesterday and I thought I will be disappointed by the the poor nightvision feature (after reading one of the reviews), but no. I am amazed on how good it works. Don't really have any problems with it. It adapts to any lighting conditions. Great baby monitor and great price
