    Incredibly fast but loud.

I didn’t realize how many tasks are related to the agility of your hard drive and not to the speed of your processor or RAM, etc. I bought this drive as an alternative to the sticky business of replacing the internal HDD on my 2011 iMac. You can boot from this SSD, which is a great feature. Booting, opening programs, saving and transferring files are all now ridiculously fast. Just amazing.
The drive does however emit a high-pitched turbine noise whenever it is powered up. It was distracting to my wife who was in the other room so put it in yet another room. The design of the case may not be well considered for this dual 256GB drive configuration. Could employing larger, slower spinning fans, with a more natural, vernacular style cooling like other Apple products let these inherently silent hard drives stay silent? Considering the candidate for this drive is likely someone in video or music, the noise factor seems like a large oversight on part of the designers.

I bought this drive to have fast access to my video library with my iMac. I primarily use Final Cut Pro for video editing. This drive has been a big boost to my work. It does exactly what it says and even looks perfectly at home amongst my Apple setup.

    Speed is well worth it

I have an iMac from late 2012 and I purchased this as the bootable drive. And startup time on my iMac went from 1 minute 20 seconds to 26 seconds. This machine is so fast now.

    Works great with my MacBook

This is a little beast of a hard drive. It's amazingly fast, and it handles everything I throw at it without breaking a sweat. Setup was very straightforward, and it's pretty quiet. It sits on my desk about an arm's length away and about the only time I know for sure it's on is when I do some heavy duty data transfers. In fact I was positively surprised, I was expecting it to be louder than that. All in all thumbs up for this drive!

    Fast but loud

I am always surprised by what others consider "Quiet." I'd suggest that for Mac-centric products, quiet is nearly silent.

This unit is fast - ultra fast - and a great purchase for video editing or sample libraries for music production; but it has a fan, and it's loud. You'd think the fins on the enclosure would be enough to the cool the SSD drives, but apparently not - it emits a loud, constant whirring thanks to the teeny fan that they shoved in this thing.

I'm reviewing it in this manner just in case anyone is interested but expects it to sit in a quiet studio. I'm disappointed.

    Fast and quiet

This thing is so fast! It's exactly what I needed for my video work. I was looking for something that can handle proper HD streams and play back multiple effects layers, and this is perfect. It's got a bunch of my video and effects files on it and I've not had any issues with it.

    Great product.

I have one of these set to Raid 0, so it's amazingly fast. I do a lot of video ingest work – basically copying files from digital cameras and loading them into Final Cut, pre-rendering and then compressing. This handles the data flow properly and I can run off backups in no time flat!
