    Too many false alarms

    • Written by from Springfield

Have had Hipkey for three weeks. When I have both it and my iphone in a pocket it will start beeping randomly. You will get a lot of stares from people wondering what the heck is that.
Please do a firmware update to stop these false alarms. Happens at least once a day.
Otherwise it is a very good idea.

    hipkey lost and found

    • Written by

I got hipkey for my son who never can find his keys before leaving the house. We all had to get involved finding his keys with delays and frustrations as a consequence. Then hipKey came along and that has been a great solution for him.

hipKey is not turned off and neither is the App. Find Me works instantly when the two devices are connected. Also after a long time in between an established connection. A quick walk through the house will find hipKey - guaranteed.

Now my son also started to use Alarm mode and Motion mode. Both works very well. He likes hipKey a lot.

    hipKey rocks

    • Written by

This is the best money spend ever. hipkey helps me find my phone and key's at any time. Motion mode I use for looking after my camera accessories while shooting for customers.

I keep hipkey in my keyring with other keys. So far no major no scratches etc. on hipKey. It looks nice, feels robust and material selection is very good.

    hipkey simple but beautiful

    • Written by

Ready, set, go in less than 1 minutes. Great App to make it happen so smoothly.

I love the design and the features. I use motion mode to watch my computer bag with Apple products when visiting clients and alarm mode when I am moving around.

Usage is better than expected. Much longer alarm distance than all other similar devices I have come across.

The team behind hipkey is very supportive. I submitted my question on their web and next day was called up by someone from the organisation. Problem was resolved within 5 minutes and I could move on. I encourage others to do the same.

A clever product that works well

    • Written by from SOLANA BEACH

I've used the hipKey for 3 weeks and it's worked well. I've been using it just in its Alarm mode to prevent me from leaving either my keys or my iPhone 5 behind. On a few occasions I used the app to help find my keys. (Push a button on the app and the hipKey sounds a gentle alarm.). I initially had a problem with it going off a couple of times unexpectedly, with the phone and device side by side. I changed my case from a metal wrap around (Element) case to a plastic case and it then worked perfectly. Wonder what that case does to my cellular signal?) I've dropped my keys with the hipKey attached, and even in a puddle once, and it continues to work fine. On one occasion I walked away from a table in a restaurant with the phone on the table and my keys in my pocket, and the hipKey alarm went off, reminding me I left the phone behind. I'm finding this to be an excellent product, ruggedly built, that works as promised.

hipkey, find your keys, is magic !!

    • Written by

I got hipkey to make it find my keys for me. I can never find them and get confused if I have them with me after closing and auto-locking the door. It has happened more times I have had to spend 100$ to have my front door opened by a locksmith. This is more than what I spent on one hipKey !

Hipkey does not have to have other features enabled at the same time as Find-Me. This is exactly what I wanted.

The battery is great. So far after three weeks I still haven't had to charge it.

    Works beautifully

    • Written by

I have used it every day since I got it, and haven't had any issues with this device at all.

Be prepared to use hipKey a few days to learn how to use it in the right way. I did. After that there is no point of return. It is absolutely great and the consumer promise 100% fulfilled.

At first I got a few false alarms but I quickly learned to set alarm distance to medium or long (best result) and then setup safe zone's, which is an excellent feature. If you don't already use safe zones, then do so as it is an important feature for the overall experience. I also learned not to carry hipkey or iPhone tightly enclosed to the body. Bluetooth is not well suited for that in general and the result can be a degrease of max connection distance between iPhone and hipKey.

I normally do not loose my things but it happened one week ago that my iPhone slipped out of my pocket while sitting on the back seat in a yellow cab. When leaving the cab, my phone was still on the back seat. Luckily hipkey warned me and I could run to stop the cab and immediately get my iPhone back. So happy with hipKey that day! Another observation with hipKey is that after carrying it, I have become more aware about not leaving any of my valuables behind where ever I am. This it in self is really beneficial.

Finally this morning I downloaded the new hipKey app and found it now overrules the mute button. My one complaint has now disappeared.

Great work hipKey team. I'd recommend hipKey to everyone I know.

Great Concept - Still Needs Work

    • Written by from Columbus

Great concept, but there are a few things that need to be improved.

I have been testing this product since it has been available and have found a few issues.

I have found that if one carries their phone in one pocket and your keys with the HipKey attached in another pocket (as I do), the Bluetooth signal quality can be diminished enough triggering a false alarm. I have experienced so many false alarms that the device is almost useless.

All these false alarms are also affecting battery life.

I hope the developers can find a method that allow better functionality when one's devices are carried on one's person.

Good product in theory. But like many of the reviews said too many false alarms. Also this thing stopped charging completely after three weeks of use. Returned it. In theory great idea, but needs some fine tuning not sure if its software/hardware related.

    Terrible

I purchased this device in the hopes that it would do what it said it would do. Sadly, there are so many false alarms I have been forced to just shut it off. A complete waste of money until they solve their issues.

never loose your keys anymore with HipKey

    • Written by

Tried another similar product last year but was disappointed with it's short range and limited battery life. Hipkey is a completely different experience. In my house, two levels, 1800 square feet, I almost get full coverage and I have had no need for recharging so far after two weeks.

I loose my car keys often but now with hipkey I save a lot of time finding them. Even when in my handbag, my iPhone reaches out to them every time. I love it.

The movement alarm gave me some trouble to start with as I didn't know how to turn it off. But after learning the trick I have had no issues with it. Used HipKey with this feature as a baby alarm to monitor my sleeping grandchild the other day. When she woke and moved my iPhone warned me. Nice feature with many purposes.

I rate it 5 stars because of it's convenient features, friendly iPhone 5 App and good quality make.

2 minutes and you are set to go. Like it !

    • Written by

My first experience with hipKey is very good. I like it's look, the materials used and the quality feel it has. The product is easily unpacked and the quick-guide tell's you everything required to pair and get started. All done in less than 2 minutes, very seamless and intuitive.

The App works like a charm. It has an Apple feel to it. Is very easy to operate, even without a manual in front of you. I did have problems with moving the pairing from iPhone to my iPad but with assistance of the HipKey team, who responded very quickly after contacting them, I used the hipKey demo video on youtube to make it happen.

I like the safe zone feature a lot. What a great concept. Unwanted alarms are normally unavoidable with these short-range wireless Bluetooth devices, but safe zone prevents them in a very intuitive way. One extra Star for that.

So far I only have deeper experience with Alarm Mode. The max. distance is quite okay. I find the short distance a bit too short so I use medium or long distance. Alerts on Hipkey is quite high.

Overall I recommend my friends to get one, and I got one more for my girlfriend, who looses her key's a lot ;-) I'll ask her to report her findings here as well.

    Disappointing

    • Written by from JAR

Well, after using ... or should I say trying to use - Hipkey for 2 days, this is what I can report.

I bought it for my wife who constantly forgets her keys or iPhone. Before handing it over, I decided to test it out myself to be able to better explain it to her.

I therefore installed it on my iPhone 5 first. At first it went like a breeze to install. However turning Hipkey on and off was confusing - blinking red or green - I had no idea what it meant and the manual is a 'bare minimum' not going into details.

I then downloaded the app. Creds for the nice UI. Also, pairing happened quickly.

Then the beeping starts. For some reason it beeps unexpectedly even if you don't want it to. I try to turn the thing off but instead it beeps continously. Finally it is off and shuts up. Try again and somehow I am able to start testing the Motion mode. Problem now is, it beeps when the Hipkey is absolutely still. I shut it up by clicking the alarm bell on the app , then try to get it to start if I move the Hipkey or shake it. Nothing happens for some seconds, and then it goes off. Ok. So it needs a few seconds ... I can live with that.

Now for the finale - pairing it with my wife 's 4S . No such luck. I spent 2 hours with turning it off and on , annoying my wife with the beeping till breaking point "... I am never going to use that thing..." Sigh.

I gave up. It doesn't want to pair with my wifes phone even though I unpaired with mine, switched it off and on, set it for pairing by pressing the big button like shown on YouTube ... Instead it shows Connected in green, then back to Connecting in yellow, alternating every 5 seconds.

If these things are not fixed, it is money wasted.

Software Works on iPhone5, not on iPad mini

    • Written by from CLAREMONT

Bought two of these, one for my iPhone 5 and one for my parents in law who have an iPhone 3GS. The hipkey works on Bluetooth 4.0 and won't work on the 3GS (my bad) so I bought them an iPad mini; their application is my father in law has Alzheimers, and I thought the motion mode would be a great way of keeping tabs on grand-Dad when he wakes up from a nap.
In both cases for the iPhone 3GS and the iPad mini, the app looks magnified and many of the controls (volume control, on/off toggles) are off-screen. The app works perfectly fine with the iPhone 5.
I tried deleting and reinstalling the app on the iPad mini, but I get the same goofed-up performance. I have emailed the developer and hope to get a response soon.
I think it is a great device and has a lot of potential, but the software looks like it needs a little TLC.
For me and my iPhone 5, I keep the hipkey on a lanyard with my company access badge. This has saved me from forgetting my lanyard on my way to work (iPhone 5 told me the hipkey (and lanyard) were out of range as I got in the car; saved me a trip back home!
Make it work on the iPad mini and I'll give it 5 stars! :-)

Great device, great friend and very reliable!

    • Written by from Apeldoorn

I have my Hipkey for 6 weeks now, never had a problem with this device.
It looks great, feels great and really warns me as promised. Attached tot my keyring it beeps when I leave the safe zone, a brilliant finding of this device. Even at my busy work at the hospital, where mobiles of my colleges were lost or stolen (3 x!) it works through all the massive walls, although the distance is less than outdoor ofcourse, which is as expected. The app is superb, attractive and easy to use. The Hipkey became one of my reliable friends, keeping gard over my Iphone and helping me to trace my keys or Iphone at home or where ever I go. For the reviewers with less positive experiences, I hope that Apple will replace your Hipkey with one that works properly, it’s a brand new product with great properties! Thank you Hippih and Apple for my new friend!

Great little invention that made my life a little easier

    • Written by

    What made me like it:
    ------------------

    - Very simple to pair first time and has worked ever since.

    - Looks nice.

    - The App is very user friendly, just perfect for a non-tech person like me.

    - Long range. Measured up to 230 feet in sight so far.

    - The re-chargeable battery lasts for a long time. After 2,5 weeks still no charging needed.

    - Key's are protected for false pressed while carried on me.

    - The mixture of features. Distance and Movement alarm in one device.

How it made my life a little easier:
    -----------------------------

    - Great 'Find Me' feature that helps me keeping track on where I put down my iPhone all the time (normally a big problem to me).

    - When taking my youngest grandchild to the mall to shop. I put hipKey on him and the App in Child Mode. He has more fun and I can shop relaxed, because I know he is around close by me.

    - Not having to worry about leaving my iPhone somewhere. I know the likelihood of that happening is little, but just by carrying Hipkey with me, my awareness of looking out for my iPhone has increased, so it has a very good preventive effect as well as hipKey actually watching out for my phone.

    Future wishes:
    ------------

    - Maps in safe-zone starts far away from where I am.

    - App reminds me if I by mistake turned off the Alarm Mode (switch in top right corner).

This is a must have gadget

    • Written by

Bought it for me but my teenager son 'stole' it, so I now have to get another one for myself.

Do you know the situation of always coming late out of the door because your kid cannot find his stuff, like his phone or keys. Well don't be stressed anymore because hipkey takes care of that. It creates a wireless connection to his iPhone and then hereafter serves to locate his iPhone or keys (with hipKey attached) at any time. Super time saver.

The app is very easy to use and navigate with one hand only.

Only feature I miss is a radar function to see how far away my hipkey is from me. Hope the developers will add that feature in an upcoming App release.
