Software Works on iPhone5, not on iPad mini

    • Written by from CLAREMONT

Bought two of these, one for my iPhone 5 and one for my parents in law who have an iPhone 3GS. The hipkey works on Bluetooth 4.0 and won't work on the 3GS (my bad) so I bought them an iPad mini; their application is my father in law has Alzheimers, and I thought the motion mode would be a great way of keeping tabs on grand-Dad when he wakes up from a nap.
In both cases for the iPhone 3GS and the iPad mini, the app looks magnified and many of the controls (volume control, on/off toggles) are off-screen. The app works perfectly fine with the iPhone 5.
I tried deleting and reinstalling the app on the iPad mini, but I get the same goofed-up performance. I have emailed the developer and hope to get a response soon.
I think it is a great device and has a lot of potential, but the software looks like it needs a little TLC.
For me and my iPhone 5, I keep the hipkey on a lanyard with my company access badge. This has saved me from forgetting my lanyard on my way to work (iPhone 5 told me the hipkey (and lanyard) were out of range as I got in the car; saved me a trip back home!
Make it work on the iPad mini and I'll give it 5 stars! :-)

Great device, great friend and very reliable!

    • Written by from Apeldoorn

I have my Hipkey for 6 weeks now, never had a problem with this device.
It looks great, feels great and really warns me as promised. Attached tot my keyring it beeps when I leave the safe zone, a brilliant finding of this device. Even at my busy work at the hospital, where mobiles of my colleges were lost or stolen (3 x!) it works through all the massive walls, although the distance is less than outdoor ofcourse, which is as expected. The app is superb, attractive and easy to use. The Hipkey became one of my reliable friends, keeping gard over my Iphone and helping me to trace my keys or Iphone at home or where ever I go. For the reviewers with less positive experiences, I hope that Apple will replace your Hipkey with one that works properly, it’s a brand new product with great properties! Thank you Hippih and Apple for my new friend!

Great little invention that made my life a little easier

    • Written by

    What made me like it:
    ------------------

    - Very simple to pair first time and has worked ever since.

    - Looks nice.

    - The App is very user friendly, just perfect for a non-tech person like me.

    - Long range. Measured up to 230 feet in sight so far.

    - The re-chargeable battery lasts for a long time. After 2,5 weeks still no charging needed.

    - Key's are protected for false pressed while carried on me.

    - The mixture of features. Distance and Movement alarm in one device.

How it made my life a little easier:
    -----------------------------

    - Great 'Find Me' feature that helps me keeping track on where I put down my iPhone all the time (normally a big problem to me).

    - When taking my youngest grandchild to the mall to shop. I put hipKey on him and the App in Child Mode. He has more fun and I can shop relaxed, because I know he is around close by me.

    - Not having to worry about leaving my iPhone somewhere. I know the likelihood of that happening is little, but just by carrying Hipkey with me, my awareness of looking out for my iPhone has increased, so it has a very good preventive effect as well as hipKey actually watching out for my phone.

    Future wishes:
    ------------

    - Maps in safe-zone starts far away from where I am.

    - App reminds me if I by mistake turned off the Alarm Mode (switch in top right corner).

This is a must have gadget

    • Written by

Bought it for me but my teenager son 'stole' it, so I now have to get another one for myself.

Do you know the situation of always coming late out of the door because your kid cannot find his stuff, like his phone or keys. Well don't be stressed anymore because hipkey takes care of that. It creates a wireless connection to his iPhone and then hereafter serves to locate his iPhone or keys (with hipKey attached) at any time. Super time saver.

The app is very easy to use and navigate with one hand only.

Only feature I miss is a radar function to see how far away my hipkey is from me. Hope the developers will add that feature in an upcoming App release.

    Cool device. Great App.

    • Written by

I have been using hipkey for two weeks and it just works like a charm despite what is written elsewhere. I have only had great experiences with hipkey. Hipkey was up and running 1 minute after getting it out of the box and I have had a reliable connection ever since day and night.

What I like is the look and feel of hipkey itself. It's clean design, high-end materials and the excellent App, which is a story in itself. Intutiative interface, simple to use and apple like designed.

Some prefer longer lasting coin cell batteries. Not me! For one I care about the environment and do not want to buy new batteries all the time and secondly I never remember which coin cell battery I need unless I bring the old one with me to the shop. They all look alike. hipkey has a rechargeable battery. After two weeks usage I haven't charged it once and still have 2/3 power left. Not bad at all.

Overall very satisfied with my hipkey and recommend it to my friend and family.

    Well done Hippih.

    Great Device!

    • Written by from Austin

I recently received the hipKey device, and I have to say, I've been quite impressed with its functionality thus far. Among my friends, I'm notorious for forgetting where I've left my car keys and my phone, so the hipKey will do wonders for memory retrieval when that time comes!

The device itself is great. I love how small it is - I was worried that my car keys wouldn't fit in a small purse with the device attached, but that's not the case at all. And the fact that the alarm button is located within the crescent helps ensure that I don't accidentally set it off when shoving the device in a pocket or purse.

My favorite part about the hipKey is the App. The UI is great - everything was nicely laid out making it so simple to understand. Plus, I really like that each mode is designated with a different color, making it easy for me to know which mode I have set.

Glad there's a device like this on the market! I'm looking forward to using it for a long time.

First impressions - not very reliable

    • Written by from Mississauga

First day with device - I'll update after more experience.

First impression - it stinks, literally - there is an extremely strong perfume/chemical smell to the device (likely caused by the black foam it comes packaged in) which still remains very strong on the hipKey after a day. Some may like the smell, but I'm allergic, and it may not be good for kids.

A first day with hipKey (and iPhone 5, both fully charged):
    - Many false and unusual alarms
    - In Alarm (distance) mode, set on low (2-5m), with hipKey on a table about 3m from phone also sitting still on another table, alarm spontaneously sounded on both devices many times but was fine most of the time. There was no one moving around, nothing in the environment changing. Also found that if I picked up phone and walked, alarm would often sound at about 8-9m (not 2-5m as it was set for) and sometimes I could go 20m before the alarm sounded (this was in a house).
    - In Motion Detect mode, the hipKey randomly sounded a false alarm several times (while sitting absolutely still on a table) but no alarm was indicated on the phone at all (alarms are always supposed to sound on both unless set otherwise). The phone was only about 10m away, and hipKey silenced itself 1-5 secs after, all with no alarm ever indicated on phone. If I moved the hipKey, the alarm sounded on both as expected, which is great. The other thing I noticed is that if the hipKey (or something it is attached to) is picked up and walked away with in a very smooth fluid motion (no quick moves, but at a decent normal speed), the motion/theft alarm did not sound at all, but you do get an out-or-range alarm eventually. I think unless someone does this on purpose (knowing what a hipKey is), there would typically be some sudden movement to trigger alarm.
    - The hipKey is really well designed, but quality control in manufacturing is lacking, on mine, one half of one plastic side isn't attached properly, and the I/O symbol is quite off centre on the power button (and the light only lights up half the symbol).
    - The hipKey app is exceptional, well designed, intuitive, and above average in every way. It needs to remain running in background to work, and notices of alarms (on lock screen) disappear with no record (which is a big drawback). I also found my phone battery drained noticeably faster overnight (maybe 2-4 times as much as usual), guess no way around that.
    - One big issue with theft/motion, or child distance/abduction alarm: Touching the button on hipKey immediately silences the alarm on BOTH hipKey and phone (and often alarm on phone is delayed for a second), so the system is very easy to defeat even by someone who knows nothing about it but touches the button on the device making the noise (the hipKey), at best leaving a quick short beep on the phone which can easily go unnoticed (and in many cases there are no indications an alarm was ever sounded). Leaving the only alarm happening when the device finally goes out of range, which could easily be too far or too many rooms/corners away to be able to find it (or stolen property or a child).

I will refine this review further as my experience with hipKey grows.

    Stylish gadget

    • Written by

I'm not a gadget kind a girl, but having left my phone behind or simply misplacing it way too many times, I invested in Hipkey. I love it! Not only do I remember my phone, but the movement alarm is really clever, and makes me feel safe while leaving my phone in my bag. Unlike other reviews, I had no problems in the safe zone?

Guess I'm a gadget girl after all - this is now my favorite accessory.

    False alarms

    • Written by from Glasgow

I purchased this product a week ago and have been using it for a few days. As other reviewers have stated, there is a problem with this device in that it keeps giving false alarms. This renders the device useless as the whole point is for the alarm to warn you about proximity. I have emailed the company about this and await a response. Expensive for a piece of plastic otherwise! Will be requesting a refund if there is no alternative.

Have not yet had the chance to try the hipKey´s full potential. But having lost many devices over the years, this product will save me a lot of money and trouble. I am sure the hipKey´s "Motion Mode" will come in handy when i am travelling. This would have been the perfekt product to bring in the days i was backpacking in South America.

A friendly advice, read the userguide carefully and notice the demo provided in the App, as it quickly gives you the full understanding and value of the utilities.

The "Safe Zone" feature is well thought out. After setting the Safe Zone in my home, i hardly get any falce alarms.

    Saved my iPhone

    • Written by

I mainly bought Hipkey because of the find feature. I was hoping it could help me to stop spending stressful time in the morning searching for my iPhone or keys. It has been a success, the searching is now over, I just use the find feature and the sound guides me to my iPhone or keys. It’s a great relief.

Yesterday Hipkey past it’s test and saved my iPhone. I was at a café with my friend and when we left I overlooked my iPhone on the table, which also was quite cluttered with tableware etc. Just as we walked outside the Hipkey started to alarm me. At first I was embarrassed over the noise my new nice looking Hipkey was making, but then I quickly realized that it actually was telling me that I left my iPhone behind. I went from being embarrassed to being amazed, and my girlfriend went straight home and order one :)

This product gives me peace of mind in the mornings and has already saved my iPhone once. I love it.

Hipkey kills battery life of iPhone 4s

    • Written by from JOHNSTOWN

Just received and setup my Hipkey! It took under two minutes to figure out and pair-very easy. Unfortunatley, I am returning this product to Apple due to battery life issues. The battery on the Hipkey is tremendous, but with bluetooth constantly connectd, my iPhone 4s battery life is completely wiped out in 10 hours without even using my phone. If I play music, text, check email or use the phone even minimally, forget about it. Your phone will be dead in under 5 hours.

False alarms are another problem that have been an issue.

Great idea, but not quite there yet.

    Huge Dissapointment

    • Written by from San Diego

I've needed a poduct like this and was excited to get it. What a disapointment. The alarm goes off constantly, even when I'm in a safe zone, with maximum distance, and the phone and Hipkey are sitting right next to each other. Also does not work while on the phone, the alarm goes off the whole time while talking on the phone, apparently the bluetooth connection does not stay active during calls?

    Works Great

    • Written by from Gainesville

I have not had any issues with the app or device not functioning exactly as described. Alert tones are clear, loud, and non-annoying. Bluetooth connection happens very quickly from within the app itself, no need to go to "settings", "bluetooth", and wait for pairing. The app is eye-appealing, clear, and easy to use. I am very satisfied with this product.

my new friend for life ..

    • Written by

My new friend for life .. is probably an overstatement but nevertheless this is how I feel for hipkey today. It is very nicely designed and has a great feel to it. One thing I think is very well considered is the protected buttons inside of the 'circle'. Imagine the false button presses, if the keys had been on the outer surface, whenever it is placed in a pocket?

The App was easy to download and connect to hipKey and I appreciate the user interface for its ease of use and simplicity. It took me less than 5 minutes to understand how it is setup and operates.

The Bluetooth distance is not super long indoor but better than what I have seen on wireless headsets previously. It easily reaches from one room to another. Here the safezone feature comes to play. It is super handy. I have made one safezone in my Office and one at Home. Now hipKey automatically detects, when I am at one of these places, and it lets me move freely here without any alarms even if the two devices disconnects!!

I miss that the App doesn't allow volume alarms when my iPhone is muted. I would also like hipkey to be able to connect to both my iPhone and iPad at the same time.
