    Great product - bad manual!!

    • Written by from Orange

I am a doctor and have used and recommended the iHealth BP cuff to patients. I loved the iHealth BP cuff, and eagerly bought this as a more portable way for my patients to monitor their BP and communicate it to me. Unfortunately, the manual does not specify that you need to download a different app (iHealth Vitals) than the iHealth for the BP cuff to work with this for those that have that product. Also, it does not make clear that you must make a successful connection first with the iHealth Vitals app for the offline readings to be successful. I actually returned one unit thinking it was defective because these things where not made clear in the manual. Hopefully this will save you a trip back to the Apple Store and not give up on what I think will be a great product. I would give it more stars, but great documentation is part of a great product, and I am afraid other customers will have the same frustrating and needless experience I had. Being forewarned, buy away!

Great product, just need to use it correctly

    • Written by from Chicago

Great product, so convenient to use once you get it set up. For those of you who have an iPhone 5, it definitely works for it (even though it's not shown on the box) and I'm running the latest iOS6. The instructions are a bit confusing since they don't tell you that you need the specific app (iHealth MyVitals) but I deduced it based on the developer info (iHealth Lab Inc.). The instructions are also poorly written about how to sync (but again, if you use bluetooth before, it's somewhat intuitive) but it would have been nice if they gave step by step instructions. Furthermore, since it doesn't support multiple users, you can get around the system if you have 2 devices and pair the bluetooth separately with individual accounts. But note that once you pair with one device, you need to turn off the bluetooth for that device or disconnect the pairing in order for the second device to discover it. Anyhow, as far as the accuracy of the blood pressure monitor, it is pretty accurate. I obsessively monitor my blood pressure on those free booth at the pharmacy and the iHealth BPM is very similar. I have also been trained to use a sphygmomanometer (the cuffs doctors use) and know that people shouldn't compare any easy-to-use devices to the gold standard tool because it's just not going to be that accurate. That said, the iHealth BPM works well for routine daily usage but you have to put it on correctly! For those that reported it is not accurate, I suspect they may have put the cuff on with the monitor away from the wrist (I did that for fun and it did not give the same reading). The monitor needs to be reading on the inside of the wrist (again, something the instruction could have better point out). My parting note: I purchased the iHealth BPM fro the Apple Store and they stated that I can return the item without any stocking fees, if I didn't feel like it was accurate. I'm happy with my purchase, so this is worth giving a try!

    Poor manual instructions-what a shame...

    • Written by from Esplugues de llobregat

My husband bought me the Apple iHealth Wireless Blood Pressure Wrist Monitor as a Christmas present. I was so excited I opened the box and read the instructions carefully, however, we were both very disappointed with this part. We took a long time figuring out how to make the device work properly. I had the right internet connection, bluetooth, the identified device but nothing worked. I downloaded the App iHealth and was beginning to get even more frustrated as I had followed all intructionsin the manual with no luck. I went on internet and found this review page and thanks to one customer who had written his review I was able to target what I was missing; the apps iHealth Vitals!!! Without this app you can try until you´re blue and nothing will happen. Thank you!!! It was thanks to this customer that I persevered and I am glad I did!
After that, things began to look brighter. I am no tech savvy so it took a while before I figure out how to make this device work even with the right app. It is a real shame that the instructions are so poor. This is not an automatic device that you connect to you computer and it is set to go although they make it seem so easy. First you have to charge your device, this is on page 11 of the manual.
Once I figured out everything (it took about 2 hours- I was almost ready to take it back to the store and claim our money back) I was really happy with the product. I am glad I didn´t return it. I really like it and truly serves its purpose. The readings are fairly accurate, visually attractive, and easy to track and see the history of readings.
A few glitches-The case - it is not very practical as it is too small and a bit difficult to store the device in it. No space to keep the cable together. Very pretty design but Not very practical to open and close.
In summary- once I passed the hurdle of figuring out how to make it work-I became very happy with the product. My advice: don´t give up- it is just a shame that the instructions do not accomplish its purpose. I would give more stars but I felt a big part of the product really frustrated me greatly. If this had been taken care of I would easily had given it a 4. I highly recommend it.

Great idea, but not accurate at all

    • Written by from Roy

This product initially appealed to me because it works on bluetooth and can also work in an offline mode. I used the device daily for a week and compared it with both my doctor's readings and another wrist monitor that I have. Readings were consistently high. I wrote to iHealth to find out if it was a software defect and they recommended that I exchange the device. Well, I did that today and now readings are even higher. For those of us who are regularly monitoring BP we rely on an accurate device. I am surprised this device has passed FDA standards because the readings are so inaccurate. I will be returning this device and would encourage anyone looking at this device to look elsewhere because with such inaccurate readings, this cannot be used to monitor hypertension.

    misleading

    • Written by from THOMASVILLE

I am a physician. Had high hopes for this device but after trying it for 2 weeks and comparing found it routinely calculated the diastolic reading too high. Actually I had a medicine change because of this device. Later found out it was completely inaccurate. Tried it on 6 teenagers for fun, and if we are to believe the readings all of them would be put on medicine.
This is a dangerous device and in no way would I recommend it. Later I found out from a nephrologist that this particular device is infamous for misleading patients.

    EZ Setup and Accurate

    • Written by from San Diego

Took about 5 minutes to setup on my iPhone5 using their quick start guide. Checked my BP on the device and it was 117/77. Just to see how accurate it was I went to the Kaiser Permanente Medical Center 30 minutes later and had the nurse run their blood pressure check. It was 119/77. Very please with the accuracy and ease of use.

I would not recommend this product

    • Written by from SHELBY TOWNSHIP

I found this this device is very inaccurate, I followed the directions and compared it with my doctors in-office device and the numbers signifiganly different. I attempted to contact iHealth 4 times during their regular busines hours to no avail, after hearing the lenghty recoreded message and pressing 1 to speak with support I was disconnected on each attempt. Lastly, no where in the directions or manual does it tell you to download a "new" app to sync the data and use the device I had to research it on my own. If you want to try this product this is the app you need to use: iHeath MyVitals

A GREAT APP AND PRODUCT. 5 STAR

    • Written by from SPRINGFIELD

This App works extremely well. You must have the wireless blood pressure wrist cuff to work with the app. it is extremely easy to use. get the cuff attached to your arm, make sure you have the app up on your device you are using. follow the online messages and bam. its tracks all the information you want. it is even possible to transfer the information to your doctor or post on facebook. the app and the product are real nifty. IHealth has made it easy for all of us to use during our busy schedules. Thank you.

    Not Accurate

    • Written by from Lodi

I used this product for a week and was worried about my high BP. I saw my doctor and we tested it three times in her office. My doctor took my BP and it was 132/83, but the iHealth consistently said 145/101. My doctor said take it back or depending on my frustration level....throw it away! I have a friend with the wireless blutooth bicep BP cuff from iHealth, and my BP is normal on his.

    My very first BP

I have a history of hypertension in my family. Picked this up and really like it. It's really easy to use and the app works great. Though I'm not using a scale, the weight features make it tempting.

    Save your money

    • Written by from New Braunfels

I purchased this BPM to have an easier way to log my daily blood pressure readings. The interface to the IPhone works fine and is wasy to master. The problem is that the monitor itself is wildly inaccurate. I have a large old school manual tester that I have checked it against and this wrist monitor always gives consistently higher readings (much higher).

Unless you want to terrify yourself, save your money and buy something more conventional. I really liked the product concept but an inaccurate monitor is really useless.

    DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT

    • Written by from Santa Clara

If you do care about your health and you do need ACCURATE readings on your BP, do not buy this product. It never N-E-V-E-R has provided accurate results. I tried on multiple persons. Always wrong. For info, at 240/170 you're dead ! Those were readings I could get sometime. I returned it.

    Great Product

    • Written by from Sacramento

I have been using the device for a month and am very impressed. I keep it in my backpack and can measure my BP within two minutes. Once I get my reading, it is automatically sent to the app and I can see where the result stacks against my other readings and where it is in the normal/abnormal range. You can easily maintain multiple accounts so I have been getting people in my family to take their BP too. Since buying the product I have only charged it once and it's at 50% battery life, so the battery life is awesome.

The product and software it comes with are both excellent, empowering tools to improve your health and if you want to track your BP I reocmmend this.

    Not Accurate - High reading

I am planning to return it back as the readings always high compare to another biceps device which I have from Boots. My suggestion before you buy it try it in the store and compare it with another device that you know it gives accurate reading.

    improved instructions

    • Written by from Toronto

I just bought my iHealth. I think they've improved the instructions because I found it realatively simple to set up. One thing that is different from other BP monitors is that it takes readings as the cuff inflates (i.e. it takes the diastolic reading first) so you just need to make sure you're relaxed before you press start.

This might be an excellent product...

    • Written by from Albuquerque

but I could not prove it. This morning I took it back to the store because it did not seem to be compatible with the iPhone 5. The sales associate was very helpful and showed me how tho it never worked in the store, we decided that it was because the unit was not fully charged and neither was my phone. So I returned home with it charged it fully and attempted to get it to work. I read and re-read the manual and the trouble shooting section. Bluetooth worked, it seemed. The App seemed to work. Over and over, possibly 30 or more times I started the unit and waited through the testing time. Each time the process failed due to a 'communication error". I tightened the wrist piece, loosened the wrist piece, the repositioned my arm multiple times. I did everything I could think of. I decided that I had had enough and returned again. I got my money back this time. This may work actually but it is too complicated for me.

I just got this new monitor and I have to say ,WOW! It is wireless and their app has it where you can integrate their other products as well. The app is very intuitive and quite easy to use and navigate around. I love that it keeps a history of not only my readings, but others in my family as well and gives a progress of our readings. I love the explanation of the my reading as well since I forget what the numbers mean. Another cool thing is that they give you this cute pouch so I can take it with me anywhere and it not heavy or clunky to fit in my bag. This is wonderful!

    Scary!

    • Written by from Weymouth

I bought this product thinking it would be great to use, in conjunction with an exercise regime, to monitor BP changes over time. Huge disappointment because the device gives consistently high (very high) readings. Falsely thinking that with enough complaints, something to correct the problem either through software or replacement devices would come along, and, I did not return the unit (I live 3 hours away from the store) and tend to be optimistic. Now ... I am stuck with a useless BP wrist cuff! I wish there was a fix.
