    Solid Stand, Looks Great

    • Written by from Cave Creek

I purchased this to use with a late 2013 MacBook Pro Retina. After reading all of the negative reviews I was a little uncertain about what kind of product I would find when I opened the box. Having an Apple Store nearby I figured I could always return it if I was unhappy. I have to say I was quite surprised at just how solid and well made this stand is, exceeding my highest expectations. Fit and finish are first rate and the cantilevered V arms that support the computer are much thicker and more rigid than I imagined, and in hindsight, commensurate with the price. The vertical adjustment is smooth and well made.

Though I use an external keyboard, typing on the built in keyboard while the computer is on the stand isn't a problem at all. The MBP is rock solid with no slipping and only the tiniest bit of downward deflection if you press firmly on it. The foot matches my TBD perfectly with the exception that it has the Twelve South logo on it. The stand can be moved around on the desk fairly easily but I would not say overly so by any means. It stays put unless you apply sufficient force. Before opening the box I felt the price was a bit steep but went for it because I wanted the adjustability. But it does in fact feel like a $70 stand and after using it I have no issue with the price. In my opinion the overall rating is wholly undeserved. Well made, high quality stand.

    MacBook slides

    • Written by from Raleigh

At work I use the Griffin Elevator and love it. However, for the next couple weeks I will be working from home. I probably should have brought my trusted Griffin home with me, but instead am using the Hi-Rise that my husband had stashed in the closet. (He used the Hi-Rise with his 2013 15" MacBook Pro Retina at his previous job, but when he switched companies he had to go back to Windows and this stand went to the closet.)

I have been using it for a week now with my late 2011 13" MacBook Pro and I have found I cannot trust it at all. The base slides constantly on the desk, you would think it had been designed with slider feet. And the laptop constantly slips off the stand despite the rubber grips. I am constantly checking it and sliding it back up, and twice now it has slid off the stand entirely. Once it landed in my chair, but today it hit the floor. Luckily it seems unharmed, but no way am I using the stand anymore.

I am only giving it two stars because my husband said he never had a problem with it.

Does not work with MacBook Retinas

    • Written by from Renton

It looks great but the new MacBook Retina slides right off. To fix it, I bought a package of assorted stick-on "feet" from the local home improvement store that I attached to the top of the stand where the silicone is. It works well and doesn't detract from the looks but for the price, the stand should have been functional out of the box.

I agree it is a bit pricey but worth it for the solid feel and good looks.

Only problem I had was my wife stealing it so I am buying a second one.

    Excellent Stand, Would Recommend

    • Written by from Saint Amant

I recently purchased this stand and I see no issues, (as some have NEGATIVELY remarked) I quite like the stand, compared to my last, the grip is perfectly fine(: .... To those who made remarks to the grip, there are no issues from what I've seen! Be sure to check to see if the grips are dirty as it could lower the amount of grip. And BTW if there was an issue with grip, purchase a Speck case and it will grip quite well. Have a nice day people of the internet. :D

P.S. I Have noticed that it is SLIGHTLY wobbly, not too bad, I can "STAND" it.... XD

Wanted to try a new kind of stand for home after enjoying an mStand at work. Construction and materials seem solid but having the design of single column leads to a noticeable wobble. Even with the telescopic stand firmly screwed in it still didn't feel sturdy. Small thing, but for everyday use several times a day it's just irritating enough to make me look elsewhere.

    Looks nice...

I have had great experiences with twelve south products but this is definitely not one that I would recommend to others.
In fact i will be returning this product. If i could upload pictures of this product and it failing to hold my macbook pro 13 then I would. the HiRise does not hold your macbook well. Several times while using my laptop I need to push it back or replace it on the stand.

It may seem at first that the rubber pads should hold your laptop but that wrong. Even now as am writing this review with my wireless keyboard I can see it slipping downward.

DO NOT BUY THIS STAND. Buy a better one...for cheaper!! Just ordered the mStand from Rain and will be returning this product later today.

The stand is well made and sturdy. It looks very professional sitting on the desk. The height adjusting mechanism works great and makes it a cinch to adjust and lock in. The design makes it easy to slide a keyboard underneath the laptop when not in use.

The laptop sits very securely and will not slide off. Even deliberately pushing my 15" retina macbook pro, it does not move.

The laptop runs slightly cooler than if it is sitting flat on a desk, which is a huge plus.

I would recommend using this stand with an external mouse and keyboard.

I also own another direct competitor to this stand that is cheaper, but this stand is much better in terms of design, adjustability and professional look.

    Don't Buy this Product

I have two Macbook Pro (2010 & 2013) and they both slipped off after a few minutes. This design would be better if there were two catch pieces in the front to prevent computers from falling off.

    Very Disappointed

I purchased this for my rMBP / ACD setup - so I could use both monitors. Coming from a TwelveSouth Book Arc I'm very shocked by the quality of this product. The first thing I noticed when I removed it from the box was it appeared the finish was pitted and scratched in a few areas. Since my laptop will be sitting on it most of the time - I can overlook these imperfections. Next, I placed my laptop on the stand. To my shock, the stand was quite wobbly. I adjusted it but that didn't solve the issue. It actually wobbles between the base and the pole. After doing some research it appears this is somewhat a common issue. While some say people have the stand upside down (causing the wobble), I can say I have the stand orientated correctly. I will be sending this back. I'm very disappointed, this wouldn't be acceptable on a $29.99 stand, let alone a $70 stand.

    Great Stand!

    • Written by from Pleasant View

I have had my stand for less than a month and so far, it has lived up to my expectations. When I was reading other reviews, the comments stated that the computer slides off. That is not true at all. I saw a youtube video that had a review on this stand and the guy holds the stand in one hand and puts a MBP on it (while hold the stand) and then opens the laptop while on the stand...the laptop did not slip at all. It sounds crazy, but that really proved to me that it does not slide around. Another review stated that the stand moves around on the desk to easily. Well, the stand is actually designed to move around the desk easily, so if you are looking for something that is NOT going to move, then you may need to keep looking.

Personally, I like the ability of adjusting the height of the computer. Not all stands have this feature. Having this added flexibility also me to adjust it to whatever height I need it to be. Where as other stands have a fixed height which is not dynamic enough for me. The stand is VERY well made. The angle that the computer sits at is nice (not too steep). I bought the stand so that my computer can get more air underneath it for cooling. Since the purchase and the use of the stand, the computer runs extremely quiet and does not get a hot as it use to. I am a software developer so I work pretty long hours (12-14hrs is my typical day). With that being said, I am always on the computer...so having it run cooler is optimal for me.

The packaging is first class...sure, we end up paying a little more for the product, but the last thing that you want to have is a brand new aluminum stand all scratched up because it wasn't packaged properly.

Thanks for making a quality product.

Your Using It Up Side Down! Derrrrrr!

I bought this stand today from apple and I am more than happy with what was given to me. To be honest, I didnt expect this stand to be very good because of all the neggative reviews but realised that these people are so stupid. This stand could not get much better than it already is because it has everything. Very nice stand and dont listen to all the neggative reviews because they dont have their heads screwed on straight.

    Almost not terrible...

    • Written by from Grayson

When I saw this product in the Apple store today I couldn't resist, I needed it... And for the price it seemed like a good investment. So soon after I purchase of this stand I came to realize like right when I opened the box there was scratches all over the stand. When I put my Macbook pro 17" on the stand it wobbled, like a lot. So I took a closer look at the stand and the black ridges on the bottom were uneven causing it to wobble... Terrible product.
