    15" MBP Retina Slips Off!

    • Written by from Ogden

Pretty much the same as everyone else...I purchased this stand in Late 2013 for a 13" MacBook Pro Retina, which worked flawlessly! Then I upgraded to a 15" MacBook Pro Retina this past August and to my horror my MacBook was on my table (in front of my hi-rise Stand) the next morning. Over the next few days I watched (over the period of under an hour) that my MacBook slowly slides down the stand and I constantly had to re-adjust the laptop. Ultimately I just boxed the stand up and decided not to use it because I didn't want any damage to come of my new (and very expensive) macBook Pro.

I contacted Twelve South about the issue. They offered for me to return the stand (with me paying return shipping) for a replacement...all because I was still within the 1-year warranty. Had it been past a year I would have been SOL. Still debating on getting a replacement. It is an excellent stand when it works, however I cannot recommend it to any 15" macBook Pro user.

    Yep, it slips. DONT BUY

    • Written by from Walnut Creek

Middle of the night I hear a crash from the next room. I go investigate and sure enough, my expensive MB Pro is laying on the ground, having slipped off the HiRise and smashed on the ground. Ouch. Make sure you buy a stand with the little feet that prevents it from slipping off.

Twelve South Stand for Macbook Pro

    • Written by from Groningen

You get a beautiful package, the stand is nicely designed but the finish of the product is very poor. There was glue all over the product, but the rubber mat (which grips the Macbook) was not properly attached.

My advice for potential customers would be to save your money and place your Macbook on 2 old phone books. (provides equal elevation)
My advice for the company would be to save money on the beautiful package and spend it on proper product control.

    Thank you.

    Looks nice...

    • Written by from Santa Rosa

I have had great experiences with twelve south products but this is definitely not one that I would recommend to others.
In fact i will be returning this product. If i could upload pictures of this product and it failing to hold my macbook pro 13 then I would. the HiRise does not hold your macbook well. Several times while using my laptop I need to push it back or replace it on the stand.

It may seem at first that the rubber pads should hold your laptop but that wrong. Even now as am writing this review with my wireless keyboard I can see it slipping downward.

DO NOT BUY THIS STAND. Buy a better one...for cheaper!! Just ordered the mStand from Rain and will be returning this product later today.

    Don't Buy this Product

    • Written by from Santa Rosa

I have two Macbook Pro (2010 & 2013) and they both slipped off after a few minutes. This design would be better if there were two catch pieces in the front to prevent computers from falling off.

    Solid Stand, Looks Great

    • Written by from Cave Creek

I purchased this to use with a late 2013 MacBook Pro Retina. After reading all of the negative reviews I was a little uncertain about what kind of product I would find when I opened the box. Having an Apple Store nearby I figured I could always return it if I was unhappy. I have to say I was quite surprised at just how solid and well made this stand is, exceeding my highest expectations. Fit and finish are first rate and the cantilevered V arms that support the computer are much thicker and more rigid than I imagined, and in hindsight, commensurate with the price. The vertical adjustment is smooth and well made.

Though I use an external keyboard, typing on the built in keyboard while the computer is on the stand isn't a problem at all. The MBP is rock solid with no slipping and only the tiniest bit of downward deflection if you press firmly on it. The foot matches my TBD perfectly with the exception that it has the Twelve South logo on it. The stand can be moved around on the desk fairly easily but I would not say overly so by any means. It stays put unless you apply sufficient force. Before opening the box I felt the price was a bit steep but went for it because I wanted the adjustability. But it does in fact feel like a $70 stand and after using it I have no issue with the price. In my opinion the overall rating is wholly undeserved. Well made, high quality stand.

    MacBook slides

    • Written by from Raleigh

At work I use the Griffin Elevator and love it. However, for the next couple weeks I will be working from home. I probably should have brought my trusted Griffin home with me, but instead am using the Hi-Rise that my husband had stashed in the closet. (He used the Hi-Rise with his 2013 15" MacBook Pro Retina at his previous job, but when he switched companies he had to go back to Windows and this stand went to the closet.)

I have been using it for a week now with my late 2011 13" MacBook Pro and I have found I cannot trust it at all. The base slides constantly on the desk, you would think it had been designed with slider feet. And the laptop constantly slips off the stand despite the rubber grips. I am constantly checking it and sliding it back up, and twice now it has slid off the stand entirely. Once it landed in my chair, but today it hit the floor. Luckily it seems unharmed, but no way am I using the stand anymore.

I am only giving it two stars because my husband said he never had a problem with it.

Does not work with MacBook Retinas

    • Written by from Renton

It looks great but the new MacBook Retina slides right off. To fix it, I bought a package of assorted stick-on "feet" from the local home improvement store that I attached to the top of the stand where the silicone is. It works well and doesn't detract from the looks but for the price, the stand should have been functional out of the box.

    Great Product

I agree it is a bit pricey but worth it for the solid feel and good looks.

Only problem I had was my wife stealing it so I am buying a second one.

    Great stand!

    • Written by from Belleview

I read the reviews and I was skeptical, but the design was what I was looking for. I took a chance and ordered it through Apple and I am very pleased! The stand is sturdy and it grips VERY well. I have had this product for a week and my macbook has yet to move one inch. The height is just what I needed so I don't have to bend my neck. The adjustable stand is extremely easy to adjust to the height I am looking for. Perhaps they have made some adjustments based on previous reviews and I ordered it at the right time.

    beautiful stand must buy

    • Written by from burbank

when I read all bad reviews about it i thought maybe I am not going to buy it. but today i visited and apple store and bought it. let me tell that all the bad reviews that tell you that this stand will drop your computer i think they are using it wrong (up side down) those two arms is where your computer will go not the other way. i think if you read the instruction that came with the stand you will find out how to use it the right way.

Total rip-off that should not be on the market!

    • Written by from New York

My 2010 15" MacBook Pro now slides off the stand every time that I forget to take it off the stand after using the computer. My experience is exactly the same as the large number of other users/reviewers reporting that the stand will not stably hold the laptop, and I am definitely using it correctly (laptop on the V, not the rectangle). It was stable for the first few weeks before I noticed a slight tendency to slide. Then one night it slid off the stand and pulled an external hard drive and some other stuff onto the floor with it, and it has never held the laptop stably since then. My guess is that this is a design flaw that escaped notice due to insufficient testing by the mechanically incompetent design team that produced it. The rubber on the V rapidly looses enough of its adhesiveness that it can no longer grip the laptop stably for more than a short period of time. I feel completely ripped off and would be eager to file a consumer complaint with the NY Attorney General's office if anyone else is in NY State and would like to join with me. Apple shouldn't be selling this dangerous, overpriced piece of junk, and the company should be sued.

Great Stand for a MacBook Pro 15' Retina

    • Written by from Carpentersville

I've had the stand for a few weeks and I love it. After reading some of the reviews I was concerned about the laptop slipping off the stand. So I bought the stand at the Apple Store knowing that if I had a problem I could return it to Apple.

Well, let me say slippage is not a problem for the retina MacBook Pro 15. I'm not sure if Twelve South has modified the stand - by either reducing the slope on the top of the stand or using better rubber on the top of the stand that grips the laptop, but whatever they did, I have no problems with the laptop moving once it is placed on the stand. The height adjustment allows me to adjust the laptop to the height of my external monitor when its in use. Without the external monitor I raise my laptop so the screen is closer to eye level.

The laptop gets removed from the stand almost daily. I use the Apple cordless keyboard and trackpad. Both work great with the stand.

The only problem I had with the stand - and this is very minor - was the base of the stand had a mark on it. I assume it was made during the manufacturing process. Since this is an expensive stand, I replaced it with no problem at the Apple Store.

All and all I can say this is a perfect stand for me.

Both my MBPro15" and MBAir13" slide forward

    • Written by from Mumbai

Both my MBPro15" and MBAir13" slide forward ...15 - 20 mins and they are almost on the desk ! Nice looking product but sadly doesn't work...unless I am completely missing something on the installation front! Should have paid attention to all the reviews mentioning exactly this issue :( I don't recommend anyone buy this.

Macbook slides off, isn't very stable

    • Written by from Anaheim

I bought this because I thought it was the best looking stand out there. After nearly a year I must say that I am extremely disappointed.

To clarify, I am not using this product wrong, upside down, or any thing else. My desk is level and stable (built into the house).

    The Piston Wobbles Too Much

It is very easy to lock this in a position where the macbook won't be level.

Your Macbook with SLIDE OFF and potential BREAK

I don't use my stand very often, but my laptop has already fallen off twice. Both time happened when I wasn't at my desk, so it wasn't like I was pounding or leaning on my desk. The only thing that saved my $$$ Macbook Pro was the thunderbolt cable I had plugged in and my chair.

I would never recommend this to anyone. Worst. Stand. Ever.

NOTE: TwelveSouth has nicely designed products, but this and the other product I have both don't live up to the quality I was expecting at this price. It's priced like a premium product but feels like it has a low build quality.

    Gorgeous and useful MacBook stand

    • Written by from Bath

I've been using this stand for over a year, and it has made a world of difference in my posture. I downsized to using just a MacBook (replacing my desktop), so this stand enables me to quickly set it up once I'm home. The build quality is high and the color/texture is spot-on with Apple's unibody machines. It's light, but super sturdy. I've bumped my machine a few times and it has yet to lose grip.

Pretty solid product, not sure why so many negative reviews

    • Written by from Bolivar

After much debate and comparison shopping, I decided to take a chance on this stand despite so many negative reviews. I can honestly say,I don't know why they exist other than maybe people were somehow using the product wrong. My 15 inch macbook pro sits on the stand and does not slide off.

It is a little pricey but I supposed you're paying for the adjustability and aesthetics. It also could be less wobbly, I guess, if the part the machine sits on was "U" shaped instead of "V". Despite this, I still fear my machine is going to fall and I haven't had it slide off as others have reported.

    Excellent Stand, Would Recommend

    • Written by from Saint Amant

I recently purchased this stand and I see no issues, (as some have NEGATIVELY remarked) I quite like the stand, compared to my last, the grip is perfectly fine(: .... To those who made remarks to the grip, there are no issues from what I've seen! Be sure to check to see if the grips are dirty as it could lower the amount of grip. And BTW if there was an issue with grip, purchase a Speck case and it will grip quite well. Have a nice day people of the internet. :D

P.S. I Have noticed that it is SLIGHTLY wobbly, not too bad, I can "STAND" it.... XD

    Wobbly

    • Written by from Halifax

Wanted to try a new kind of stand for home after enjoying an mStand at work. Construction and materials seem solid but having the design of single column leads to a noticeable wobble. Even with the telescopic stand firmly screwed in it still didn't feel sturdy. Small thing, but for everyday use several times a day it's just irritating enough to make me look elsewhere.

    Great

    • Written by from Silt

The stand is well made and sturdy. It looks very professional sitting on the desk. The height adjusting mechanism works great and makes it a cinch to adjust and lock in. The design makes it easy to slide a keyboard underneath the laptop when not in use.

The laptop sits very securely and will not slide off. Even deliberately pushing my 15" retina macbook pro, it does not move.

The laptop runs slightly cooler than if it is sitting flat on a desk, which is a huge plus.

I would recommend using this stand with an external mouse and keyboard.

I also own another direct competitor to this stand that is cheaper, but this stand is much better in terms of design, adjustability and professional look.
