Twelve South Stand for Macbook Pro

    • Written by from Groningen

You get a beautiful package, the stand is nicely designed but the finish of the product is very poor. There was glue all over the product, but the rubber mat (which grips the Macbook) was not properly attached.

My advice for potential customers would be to save your money and place your Macbook on 2 old phone books. (provides equal elevation)
My advice for the company would be to save money on the beautiful package and spend it on proper product control.

    Thank you.

HiRise Twelve South for MacBookAir beautiful yet useless

    • Written by from Cote St Luc

I am so disappointed with my recent purchase- the Twelve South HiRise stand for my MacBookAir 11 inches slides off completely. I adjusted and readjusted following the instructions, but the inclination of the stand does not move, only the height can be changed. I am baffled at how such features could pass any kind of quality control testing. I am returning this stand to the store and will buy another adjustable stand.

    Excellent Stand, Would Recommend

    • Written by from Saint Amant

I recently purchased this stand and I see no issues, (as some have NEGATIVELY remarked) I quite like the stand, compared to my last, the grip is perfectly fine(: .... To those who made remarks to the grip, there are no issues from what I've seen! Be sure to check to see if the grips are dirty as it could lower the amount of grip. And BTW if there was an issue with grip, purchase a Speck case and it will grip quite well. Have a nice day people of the internet. :D

P.S. I Have noticed that it is SLIGHTLY wobbly, not too bad, I can "STAND" it.... XD

Using it right, laptop still slips down

    • Written by from lake forest

I'm using the stand the correct way, with the rectangular section on the desktop and the V section holding the laptop. I use a Mac Air and it still constantly slips down or sideways. I think it might be the various cords and attachments pulling on it. Regardless, it's annoying and I'm now going to buy a new stand!

    Wobbly

    • Written by from Halifax

Wanted to try a new kind of stand for home after enjoying an mStand at work. Construction and materials seem solid but having the design of single column leads to a noticeable wobble. Even with the telescopic stand firmly screwed in it still didn't feel sturdy. Small thing, but for everyday use several times a day it's just irritating enough to make me look elsewhere.

    Looks nice...

    • Written by from Santa Rosa

I have had great experiences with twelve south products but this is definitely not one that I would recommend to others.
In fact i will be returning this product. If i could upload pictures of this product and it failing to hold my macbook pro 13 then I would. the HiRise does not hold your macbook well. Several times while using my laptop I need to push it back or replace it on the stand.

It may seem at first that the rubber pads should hold your laptop but that wrong. Even now as am writing this review with my wireless keyboard I can see it slipping downward.

DO NOT BUY THIS STAND. Buy a better one...for cheaper!! Just ordered the mStand from Rain and will be returning this product later today.

    Complete junk, returned immediately

    • Written by from Walnut creek

As many reviewers have stated, the "grip" on the portion of the stand that is supposed to hold to the bottom of the computer is not sifficient. My MacBook pro fell off the stand three times. Yes I was using it in the correct orientation after carefully reading the (brief) instructions. As well, the unit was not entirely symmetrical. I suggest Apple pull this off the shelves immediately. As a fail safe, I would only recommend a stand that has little "feet" to ensure the computer does not slip off, if the stand holds it at an angle where gravity can work its magic.

Again, this item is complete junk. I wouldn't use this if it were for free, or even if someone PAID me to use it. Not worth the potential damage to your computer.

    Great

    • Written by from Silt

The stand is well made and sturdy. It looks very professional sitting on the desk. The height adjusting mechanism works great and makes it a cinch to adjust and lock in. The design makes it easy to slide a keyboard underneath the laptop when not in use.

The laptop sits very securely and will not slide off. Even deliberately pushing my 15" retina macbook pro, it does not move.

The laptop runs slightly cooler than if it is sitting flat on a desk, which is a huge plus.

I would recommend using this stand with an external mouse and keyboard.

I also own another direct competitor to this stand that is cheaper, but this stand is much better in terms of design, adjustability and professional look.

Works as intended as long as you know what to expect...

    • Written by from Forest Hills

I use this stand with my late 2013 15" MacBook Pro. The most important thing to realize is that this stand was intended for use with an external keyboard and mouse/trackpad. This is stated on the Twelve South website and the product documentation. I have not had any issue with the MacBook sliding off at all. I've had the stand for three weeks and have checked multiple times to see if the MacBook has slipped any and it has not. Perhaps people that are having this issue are typing directly on the MacBook keyboard or maybe they have a skin or shell on it that reduces the coefficient of friction between the stand and the MacBook. If used as intended it works fine.

    Don't Buy this Product

    • Written by from Santa Rosa

I have two Macbook Pro (2010 & 2013) and they both slipped off after a few minutes. This design would be better if there were two catch pieces in the front to prevent computers from falling off.

    Send it back

    • Written by from Belmont

First thing I noticed is the adjustable portion is wobbly. Then when I got my MacBook Pro on it I noticed a slant. The left edge is a full 1/2 inch lower that the right edge! I'm sending it back. Not waiting around for my laptop to slip off!

    MacBooks really slip off

    • Written by from Budapest

Bought about 6 months ago. I couldn't believe when I came home and my Macbook was on the floor, Hi-Rise on the desk.
Both my aluminium MacBook 13" (2008) and my MacBook Pro 15" (2011) slowly slips off! In every 30 minutes I have to adjust its position back.
And yes, I use it the right way: V shape up! It's not just useless and waste of lot of money but cracked my MacBook's side when it fell off (warranty lost...). No answers from TwelveSouth support.

    do NOT buy this product!

    • Written by from Tulsa

Terrible design does not function as intended. The supposedly sticky surface that is to hold your laptop in place does NOT; laptop slides right off & into your lap, every time.
This item is an embarrassment and should NOT be endorsed by apple!

    Don't bother with it!

    • Written by from Dallas

I was recently looking for a stand and while at the store, looked at some reviews for this particular stand and it was at 3 stars, so i knew i was taking a 50/50 risk. The risk was not worth it. It slides on the bottom, but right out of the box it also slips from the top, i set my macbook on the stand and a few minutes in it already starts to slip off. I still give it another chance so I leave the room for a few minutes, and when i come back my macbook is on the table tilted OFF the stand. I give it another try; same thing. I'm on my way to return this dumb product in exchange for something else. DO NOT waste your time on this stand, really, save your time!

    Solid Stand, Looks Great

    • Written by from Cave Creek

I purchased this to use with a late 2013 MacBook Pro Retina. After reading all of the negative reviews I was a little uncertain about what kind of product I would find when I opened the box. Having an Apple Store nearby I figured I could always return it if I was unhappy. I have to say I was quite surprised at just how solid and well made this stand is, exceeding my highest expectations. Fit and finish are first rate and the cantilevered V arms that support the computer are much thicker and more rigid than I imagined, and in hindsight, commensurate with the price. The vertical adjustment is smooth and well made.

Though I use an external keyboard, typing on the built in keyboard while the computer is on the stand isn't a problem at all. The MBP is rock solid with no slipping and only the tiniest bit of downward deflection if you press firmly on it. The foot matches my TBD perfectly with the exception that it has the Twelve South logo on it. The stand can be moved around on the desk fairly easily but I would not say overly so by any means. It stays put unless you apply sufficient force. Before opening the box I felt the price was a bit steep but went for it because I wanted the adjustability. But it does in fact feel like a $70 stand and after using it I have no issue with the price. In my opinion the overall rating is wholly undeserved. Well made, high quality stand.

    Very disappointed

    • Written by from Chicago

My laptop slowly slips will I am working. I cannot be comfortable to leave it on the HiRise Stand while I leave as I don't now whether it might fall. I truly feel I wasted my money in this Stand. My strong recommendation is not to buy it and look for another more secure option.

Get ready to watch your laptop fall right off

    • Written by from Denver

I must say, I'm surprised by how poorly this stand works. Within an hour placing my laptop (13" MacBook Pro) slides right off the stand, and impacted with the surface of my desk. If I don't constantly push the laptop in place, it just slides off again.

Also, the adjustable neck is loose and wobbly, despite the numerous attempts I made at readjusting it. Unless I wedge the laptop up against my external monitor, the laptop (on the stand) sits at a noticeable slant.

I bought this yesterday, and I'll be returning it to the Apple store today. Bummer, because it looked so cool.

    MacBook slides

    • Written by from Raleigh

At work I use the Griffin Elevator and love it. However, for the next couple weeks I will be working from home. I probably should have brought my trusted Griffin home with me, but instead am using the Hi-Rise that my husband had stashed in the closet. (He used the Hi-Rise with his 2013 15" MacBook Pro Retina at his previous job, but when he switched companies he had to go back to Windows and this stand went to the closet.)

I have been using it for a week now with my late 2011 13" MacBook Pro and I have found I cannot trust it at all. The base slides constantly on the desk, you would think it had been designed with slider feet. And the laptop constantly slips off the stand despite the rubber grips. I am constantly checking it and sliding it back up, and twice now it has slid off the stand entirely. Once it landed in my chair, but today it hit the floor. Luckily it seems unharmed, but no way am I using the stand anymore.

I am only giving it two stars because my husband said he never had a problem with it.

Does not work with MacBook Retinas

    • Written by from Renton

It looks great but the new MacBook Retina slides right off. To fix it, I bought a package of assorted stick-on "feet" from the local home improvement store that I attached to the top of the stand where the silicone is. It works well and doesn't detract from the looks but for the price, the stand should have been functional out of the box.
