Bus-powered G-Drives are all alike, and that's not good

I've had several bus-powered G-Drives, and I was hoping that this one would be an exception. No dice. Other reviewers have commented about poor performance, disk crashes, etc. Luckily, I haven't (yet) had that problem. The chronic issue with these bus-powered drives is "bootability". That is, when you start up your Mac, you can never really know if the drive will be recognized. This in turn, requires you to try all sorts of tactics, e.g., shutting down, disconnecting the drive, starting up, then re-connecting the drive, etc. Utterly unreliable. I simply cannot believe that G-Tech won't (or can't) resolve this persistent issue. I have several other portable bus-powered drives, ioSafe for example, and I've never had this annoying issue with them, only G-Drives. Caveat emptor.

Had this drive for few weeks and seems to be working well. I've tried 3 other third party drives and had problems with mounting after reboot but this one seems to work well with Time Machine

    Great storage

It comes with about 990G of storage, which is fantastic compared to some other HDDs I have had. The design is also very slim and good looking.
The actual only complaint I have is that the aluminum is not as smooth and I had imagined. It is not really nice to feel and I warn you to not put your nails on it! Worse than nails on a chalkboard for me. Obvious this is mundane, but it meant something to me.
I would recommend this to a friend.

Got faster over time and seems to be as fast as my iomega and less hot. Twice the storage as the iomege and just a little smaller for the same price. This is a new product for me and I have not had an issue. One improvement would be a better usb connectors as it feels a tad loose, other than that I have had no issue in the three weeks I have used the device.

I've had this hard drive for a few days now, and so far so good, its seemingly quick and MUCH thinner then i had expected (500gb version). Sleek design and looks good next to my Macbook Pro with Retina Display.

    Horrible connectors

The cable and USB connector on the drive are of the worst possible design.
Although the drive is on a fixed surface, it unmounts/disconnects continuously at the slightest movement on the desk 9bring a cup of coffee, open a book, move the desk slightly and the drive gets disconnected).

This is supposed to be a portable drive, and it cannot even stay connected while used on a regular desk. I wonder how it would work on a train or airplane...

The drive is only a few months old, and G Technologies tech support offered to exchange it a refurbished one... This is the first and last product I would buy from this company.

Faster than my Western Digital passport USB 3.0. Also, this is the first hard drive I've ever owned that actually has the capacity it says. (999.4 GB storage.)

    Can't fault it...

Can't fault it... Its much thiner than some of the others I've tried. It also is much faster than a USB2 alternative... about 120MB/sec on a Mac Pro Retina, which is perfect for backups and the odd large file...

The price is very reasonable too.
