    Might be damaging my MACBOOK?

    • Written by from Richmond

After i installed the case, i think that the upper half of my macbook pro is bending!! I'm just going to keep it on for a bit longer and see if it does anything bad to my laptop, the bottom half doesn't fit properly too!

    do not buy!!

    • Written by from North Potomac

This was the worst purchase that I have ever made. I do not travel with my MacBook Pro, it generally remains on my desk at home but I liked the color of the case and decided to purchase it. The shell case cracked within 2 weeks. Then the base constantly slide off the bottom. Finally, the top piece started coming apart bit by bit. I finally just threw it in the trash.

    Don't Waste Your Money

This is a terrible case. I had it for two weeks before I noticed chips. Within a few months I had a huge crack right down the middle, I have never dropped it or misused it, I was shocked the quality was so poor. Save your money and buy a better case!

Fool me once, Fool me twice but not a third time

    • Written by from Gaithersburg

I loved the look and it was less money than the other one available so I bought it. Almost immediately, the edges chipped and cracked. I finally succumbed and bought a new one only a few months ago. The edges on the second one also chipped almost immediately. And it is no longer a tight fit. Matter of fact, if I am not careful, the computer will drop out of the case completely. Certainly, I will not buy a third Speck case. In fact, I think Speck/Apple owes me my money back for at least one of these.

Cleaning or removal thats when you break it (free replacement though)

    • Written by from Calgary

Product broke and cracked 3 months after initial purchase. The case itself is okay and will do you good, the product will last if you never remove it. However upon cleaning or removal thats when you break it. It cracks, it chips off, its very thin, you can break it in a million different ways. That being said they have excellent customer service.

Upon routine cleaning I broke one of the clips on the back, I took some photos, provided a receipt, and followed instructions on their website about how to send in an RMA request. I sent in an RMA request via their website and had a new one in my mailbox within 48 hours via international shipping. I didn't even have to ship the old one back they simply looked at the photos and sent a new one.

The quality of product in the sense that it breaks easy is disappointing however the customer service was excellent for me.

    5+ years, so far

I bought the Speck case for my MBP in 2009 and while the tabs have popped off the bottom shell, it stays on my laptop. I have a toddler who likes to "help" by handing me the computer, so it can be handled a bit roughly, but the laptop is still functional, which I think has a lot to do with the case.

Not bad but not that good either.

    • Written by from Melbourne

Generally easy to put on. Does its job as a shell. However, it scratches too easily! The shell would have multiple scratchers on right on the first day before I even finish putting it on my mac. Moreover, (I don't know if anyone experiences this) but it's incredibly difficult to take off when it's time to clean. My fingers hurt like crazy when I try to take it off and I'm always afraid it'll break because I had to really use a lot of strength to get the clamps out. In fact, it cracks a bit but it's not that visible.
Pros: does its job. Fit perfectly.
Cons: scratches easily (not that visible but it'll irritate you a bit if you're a bit of a perfectionist). Hard to take off.

I bought this with my $100 gift card from Apple since this is pretty much the only one with the look I want that fits my 15" mac. But honestly, if you don't have the gift card, buy some other brands like Moshi or Power Support.

Case is broken in more places than it's not

    • Written by from Edmonton

This is an absolutely terrible case. I have had it for less than a year, and already all four of that tabs that are supposed to keep it on have broken off, and I had to velcro the bottom on. There's a huge crack all the way down the middle, and this is all from day to day use, it get transported gently from my university to my desk, and thats all. 0/10, would not recommend to anyone.

    Better than Moshi

    • Written by from Fort myers

IMO the Speck case is the better shell case for the MBP. I have three shell cases; Moshi, Speck, No name brand. The Moshi fits a little too snug to the point that it may put stress points on your mac and in my case it ends up putting stress cracks on itself (the shell) and that was only in a month time of usage!!! The Speck fits perfectly for me its not too snug but not even close to being loose. It may scratch a little easier than the Moshi but thats the whole reason you get a shell and in 6 months of use I have no stress crack unlike my Moshi shell which happened in a months time.

If I could give this case a half start I would. It is so fragile and cracks very easily. I have not dropped or damaged the case at all yet there are cracks all over from normal wear and tear.

    Surprisingly Disappointing

    • Written by from Washington

My last macbook pro had a clear Speck case... and the case lasted at least a year before cracking and breaking... under usual wear. This case for my new macbook pro fell apart within a week... and there is no apparent damage to the device itself. On replacing the case in the physical Apple store, the replacement case fell apart within a month.

Both cases (while brand new out of the box) had sharp plastic edges in the same location--where your left wrist touches the laptop, by the trackpad--as though they were not properly finished and sanded on production. I had to use 320 sandpaper to smooth the sharp edges to be able to actually use my device in the case; not wanting to return the case again, in utter frustration.

Now, the corners are cracked and broken (and the case looks like a cracked glass)... so it has to be thrown away. What sense does it make returning it to Speck for a replacement... will the quality be assured? Now I am looking for a replacement that is NOT Speck.

To be fair, the black satin Speck case I got for my girlfriend's much older model 13" macbook, is holding up quite well... with no visible signs of scratching or cracking (6 months later). Maybe it is just the newer transparent ones that crack at all corners, break off the lower-back-corner supports and generally fall apart (with a sharp shard of plastic, like a knife, protruding from the left side of the case where the side plastic broke away from the vents at the corner... snagging on everything) within your briefcase / messenger bag.

I'm completely unsatisfied... and thought I could trust my previous positive experiences with this brand.

Very flimsy - don't waste your money

    • Written by from Washington

The case cracked around the edges after 3 weeks, even though my laptop had never been dropped nor significantly banged/bumped. So now I have to go buy a different shell. Huge waste of money.

Mine developed cracks and crazes quite easily, and started looking rough. It's not real protection for the Mac, unless you think dust is something awful.

    Bummer

    • Written by from Woodside

I loved the idea and look of this case, unfortunately, there seem to be design flaws.
I ordered this with my new MB Air in March, within the first few days, it cracked. I'd barely moved it even on the desk. I took it back and got a replacement. Again, within the next few days, still not having moved from my desktop, the corners cracked again and now the bottom shell doesn't even stay on. For the time it takes, I haven't decided whether or not to try and return this one as well. I don't see what good having another one that will most likely crack again will do me. Not a good investment :(

    Not robust at all

    • Written by from Brackendale

This is an appealing product, but with a fatal flaw. The corner tabs on the back of the bottom break off; mine broke within three months of purchase. (I'm not rough on my equipment generally.) The feet on the bottom don't hold up well, either; one came off. Other comments here suggest that this breakage is all too common. The product is meant to be "robust," but is not.

    Definitely not worth $50

    • Written by from Lake Oswego

These cases should be more like, at most, $20. I haven't even had this case for very long, and pieces are cracking and breaking off. I am very careful and gentle with my computer, and the case is just falling apart. $50 is way too much for this stupid, cheap case. I'm totally bummed out, and would not recommend.

    needs gentle handling

    • Written by from Vancouver

After about a month, the small tabs that anchor the bottom shell adjacent to the display broke off. After emailing pictures to Speck, they sent me a new one right away. The case is very nice, thin, attaches very securely, but the small size of those tabs is a weak point. Perhaps with very gentle handling, the case hold up longer.

    Flimsy and cracks easily

    • Written by from Newmarket

The case fits well, hard to put on and risk of scratching is high, but it slipped on eventually. The biggest problem is that it is very flimsy and all the corners cracked on the case and pieces chipping off. The laptop has never been dropped, thankfully. I'm disappointed.
