Impossible to print photos larger than 5x7 from an iPhone

    • Written by from Santa Monica

It is impossible to print a photo larger than 5x7 from your iPhone or iPad. I called the printer tech support specialist at HP and she told me you can't select a paper tray when printing from a mobile device and I should contact Apple. I checked the App Store and found HP has a free print utility app that allows you to select which paper tray you wish to use. The problem is that even if you select "Main Tray" and "8 1/2x11" - the largest image size you can choose is 5x7. There's a "Custom" size option, but it makes even high resolution photos print at 4x6.

In the Q&A section, someone says the photo paper tray is adjustable to 8x10 - it isn't. It only goes to 5x7.

Bottom line - 5x7 is the max. size photo you can print from a phone. Any larger and you have to use a computer.

    problem printing double sided

When printing duplex, the printer cuts of the very bottom of the page. I've spent hours on the phone with HP all to no avail! I have used HP printers for years - have had at least 5 HP printers, however, I'm now looking at replacing it with a Brother printer. The print quality is good, wireless works good (I'm using it with a Mac).

I would be completely happy if it would only print duplex CORRECTLY!

When our old printer gave up the ghost, I finally decided to buy an all-in-one, and man am I glad I did. The AirPrint functionality works flawlessly, so I can print and scan from my iOS devices. Printouts are gorgeous, especially when using inkjet paper: on par with a laser printer. Don't hesitate.

    A pleasant surprise

Though not a fan of HP printers, I was pleasantly surprised with this printer. Easy to set up. the print quality is great as well as the two paper trays, great for pictures without having to change paper, but can of course print photos on regular paper. I found the ink, if you put it on draft, prints as well as normal, and will extend the life of the ink cart. save the special ink settings for important pictures or legal documents. it is a waste of ink to print everyday things such as text docs with normal printing. I use this setting for insurance forms and have not found any loss in quality of print.

For the price it is a great printer, and the cart. are very reasonably priced.

Excellent preforming printer. However, I believe the ink cartridges are too small, thus can not print very many pages.

I am surprised at all the negative reviews, we have had no problems at all. Set-up was super easy and quick, and since then the printer, scanner, fax and copier has worked absolutely fine. No problem with the wifi connectivity from either our iMac or our iPhones and iPads.

The only thing I would say is that I have trouble turning off the automatic double-sided printing and sometimes you have to wait for up to one minute for the printer to warm up after a long time of inactivity. Otherwise, it works like a dream, and the eprint facilities are great!

    Ink Cartridge Eater PhotoSmart 7510

I bought the 7510 based on reviews. Have been satisfied with quality and ease of use. I've only printed 330 pages and have gone thru all color cartridges and a black XL cartridge. I use the printer mainly for text printing. Unless your loaded. Skip this printer. I've had to come to terms that any time I need to print something I better go by the store for ink. By the way I bought this a year ago. The XL cart which is supposed to print 550 may have printed 100.

I'm going laser, not laserjet. Good luck.

Very unhappy with this printer! Communication problems losing connections to wireless - have to unplug cable to restart printer. When printing from computer it prints in black and white and pictures are extremely poor quality. Unable to scan to computer so unable to send e faxes or scan documents to computer. So unhappy after one year that I will trash and purchase a better printer! Don't waste your money on this one!

I can print with my iphone & iPad from anywhere

Set up was a breeze. I hooked it up to my network & our 2 laptops effortlessly. When I installed the apps on our ipones & ipads I was amazed at what I could do. Having paper trays (one for paper & one for photo paper) is it's best asset. The printer has a "brain". When you print a photo it chooses the right setting and the photo tray & produces high quality photos, right from my iphone. Draft printing is super fast & very good quality. Best printer I have ever had & it does it all.

    HP 7520 review

    • Written by from ORANGEVALE

15 of 20 people found this useful

I bought this printer directly from HP in Jan 2012 and had problems getting it to find the internet address from DHCP from my Linksys router. Many other devices are served just fine except the 7520. My wireless is from an access point not a wireless router but this, according to the 7520 documentation should work fine.

If you select the "Tools" option on the front panel then it has no "return" option so you are stuck on this screen until it somehow times out. The HP printer software guys need to test more thoroughly.

this printer has great features but the wireless software systems is very weak. I have had no problems on my network with a recently purchased HP5514.

the HP 7520 takes over 3 minutes to get an IP address from a router.

    Weird

So far I am very disappointed. Got it set up wirelessly and document printing is just fine, but my daughter tried to print out a photo and the printer indicates it is loading for 10-15 minutes and then prints about an inch of the picture and quits. Very frustrating when homework is due and its 11:00pm!!

Excellent wireless performance with Apple products and more!

After so much research on wireless printer performance with Apple products, I took a chance on the HP 7520. If you read enough user reviews you will not want to try any.

I did not install the HP software on my MacBook Air, but instead set it up on the wireless network as a stand alone device. It has worked flawlessly with this laptop, 2 iPads, an iPhone 5 and also an Android phone. I have used it for multiple full color 4X6 and 8 1/2X11 photos and documents and have scanned directly to the iPads and both phones using the HP apps. I love the effortless double sided printing, and also keeping both paper sizes loaded at the same time, and not having to choose which to use. My biggest concern was having complications with my Apple laptop, but so far all features have worked so easily while maintaining print/scan quality. I have been using this printer 100% wirelessly and loving it!

    Buyer Beware

    • Written by from Rancho Santa Margarita

I got this as a christmas gift for my aunt&uncle, but it had problems with the wireless. It would drop out after the first 5 minutes (or so) of turning it on, and never come back. And had severe range problems compared to any other device (including another HP printer!) (I tried many things, including moving it closer to the wireless router, switching the wireless router from a Netgear to an AirPort Extreme because I thought it might be an AirPlay related issue, updating the firmware, etc.). After reading the reviews from Apple and Amazon, it seems like other people have this problem too (while it's fine for others -- so it might be a quality control issue at HP). I ended up getting an Epson Artisan 837 for them. While the Epson's are a little slower at printing, they seem to have much more consistent positive reviews on Apple and Amazon's sites. We didn't have any issues using this at all, even with AirPrint (which was the primary reason for buying a new printer for them).

As for other features of this product... also realize that they tie in with a lot of other 3rd party services which you have to pay for. This may be convenient to some or be seen as nuisance advertising to others.

HAD 2- THREW THEM BOTH AWAY

    • Written by from Lake Worth

19 of 25 people found this useful

Paid $100 for each when I purchased an apple product.
    BOTH were TERRIBLE.
Only one would SCAN and ONLY one would PRINT! so i would unplug according to the job I was doing. So stupid!

Then the SCANNER one finally broke after 9 MONTHS!
TODAY it has been 12 months and the PRINT one broke!

The cartriges were $50 to refill and they dried out fast so you could not have them refilled by a second hand store (costco, walgreens, etc)..which led me to have to buy NEW $50 cartridges VERY often.

Also the printers could NOT turn off their WIRELESS ability so it would take FOREVER to print ONE PAGE!

    DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY!

I considered both this printer and the Artisan 837. I went with the HP and am glad I did. I had none of the set up or connection issues mentioned by some other reviewers. I have not used the USB cable and have had a very solid WiFi connection. If the HP printer software is installed on your Mac (mine is running OS 10.7) the scan-to-computer function works fine. I've used all the functions except for fax and had no issues. AirPrint works great, including the ability to choose 2 sided printing from your iPhone/iPad. And, for me at least, with quality paper this printer outputs beautiful photo prints that I think are as good as the lab. The pre-installed apps are mostly fluff (coloring pages, etc) but probably would be useful with children. The quick forms app came in handy when I was tutoring my niece and we needed some graph paper.

    The 7510 was better....

    • Written by from Charleston

This printer has MUCH less functionality than its predecessor, the 7510. First, this printer does NOT have E-fax functionality, a feature I assumed it had because I thought it would be a step up from the 7510. Second, you cannot access facebook directly from the touchscreen on the printer, so unlike the 7510, you cannot go to Facebook on the printer and print directly from it. Third, there is some sort of software glitch where the software cannot be downloaded from the internet. All in all, not impressed. Please bring back the 7510!!!
