Extremely handy external battery while on-the-go

A superb external battery for the iPhone and iPad. Charges at 2.1 A, so it's as fast as an iPad wall charger. The casing is metallic and rubber and looks expensive and sleek. It can charge two devices at the same time, and has a few lights to show the remaining charge. It's a bit bulky but fits easily into a bike saddle bag or something similar. The capacity is 6000 mAh (the highest sold by Mophie) so it should be able to charge an iPhone 3 or 4 times, and that's consistent with my experience. However, the phone needs to be in sleep mode during charging or else it'll eat up the battery capacity a lot quicker. Does not support pass-through mode. Also offered in a ruggedized waterproof version from Mophie directly, although this one tolerates splash damage.

Wasted my time - 1 star for looks, weight and 'concept'.

Unfortunately, it's not functional...currently on 4 hours for an iPad2 - Mophie's about to run out of JUICE and iPad's only at 60%. Bought for a Euro trip and was really hoping for the best - But not to be....it's going back today...

Not sure what the 2nd port is for when it can't even get one done??!

Works if you know it's limits.

First of all I think people must be made aware that an iPad has approximately a 11,600 mah battery and iPhones have approximately 1440 mah batteries, while the mophie has a 6,000 mah battery. Also, battery to battery transfer of energy works best when the charging battery is lowest and gets worse as the charging battery fills up. So at most you're getting 50% charge out of an iPad and 4 charges on an iPhone. However that assumes 100% transfer which you can't get. If you want this to work best wait till your device is about 20% battery and plug it in for an hour. That should get you to about 80% + and you can do it about 7 times. If you try to go from dead to full you might get about 3 maybe 3.5 times. If you know the capacities and have realistic expectations this works great.

Not sure about the qualify of Mophie any longer. I bought two of these - one refused to charge when left on a charger overnight (blinking lights but no indication of charge). Too bad because I'd enjoyed using Mophie products in the past but I will be switching when I purchase my next extended battery because I no longer trust their quality.

Works great as advertised!FYI READ INSTRUCTIONS PEOPLE.. It clearly says it will not fully charge new ipad! It will charge it from dead to about 60 -70 percent and it will charge any iphones at least twice to full so overall a great product i would say...

Additional time on ipad 3rd gen

I purchased this to extend my time on my 3rd gen ipad.

When my ipad got to 5% of battery life remaining, I plugged it in and only got an additional 2:23 of life, until auto shutdown turned off my ipad, and that was with the screen brightness reduced to 50%.

Additionally, If your ipad battery fully discharges and automatically shut itself down, it takes about 6 minutes after plugging in the juice pack before you can get it to turn back on.

As someone else mentioned..... its ok if you know its limitations, but don't expect too much from it.

Initially purchased keyring model it DIDNOT charge my smart phone, soooo back to Best Buy it went, exchanged for this device, I'll call MJPP. It charged my smart phone overnight, but was completely drained.

MY SUGGESTION: charge you smart/cell phone to 100% and MJPP too before leaving home. when phone is at aprox 50% use MJPP to charge to 100%. recharge MJPP in the car if you can. will it charge your Ipad, I have my doubts.

Does not charge when brand new. Out of the box gave me 5% charge on iPad. Piece of garbage.
