I've got tons of files, photos and video and I've been running low on storage space lately. Besides I got tired of managing multiple backup drives, so I've opted for this 3TB baby. It's quite heavy due to the thick aluminum enclosure. The design and the build quality are awesome. Transfer speeds are great. I also love that there is a data encryption option, which gives me peace of mind knowing that even if I leave the drive behind somewhere the information contained cannot be accessed and is totally secure.

It is decently fast and quite, nice industrial design with a big thick aluminum heat sink on top, works like a charm with the new usb3 macs, it's second gen usb3 allowing scsi over USB protocol. Very happy with the fanless design, great for musicians or anyone who hates noise.

I'd recommend this drive to anyone who needs a simple, and easy backup system. It was plug-and-play for me and so far I haven't had any issues with it. The backups are faultless with Time Machine and I don't have to worry about my data security, since it can be encrypted with this drive, nor about running out of space - 3TB is an enormous amount of storage capacity to safely save all my files, music, video and photos..

Among the things I appreciate about the design of the Porsche, besides its data transfer speed, is that there is no fan noise (it's not a power hog, so there's no fan) and you can neither hear nor feel the drive vibrating as it comes to speed (this is particularly, um, NOT noticeable if you use the power-saving capability of the preloaded software).

I was looking for a drive that would look good and operate well when connected to my iMac. In the end, I opted for Porsche. It looks like it was designed with my Mac in mind and it works with Time Machine, without any hiccups or issues. I would buy another one of these drives in a heartbeat.

Subject says it all. Sleek, industrial grade design, robust performance, runs quietly with minimal heat and set up is a breeze. Plug and go. Made for a Mac.

This drive looks pretty good next to my Mac, and the 3 TB storage capacity is completely mind-blowing! I figure it will take care of my storage and backup needs for the foreseeable future. For the great design, top quality, and good performance, I give this an easy five stars.

I got this drive a couple of months ago and I'm very pleased. The transfer speeds are very good with USB3. It's great that there's plenty of storage. I've accumulated lots of video and photos over the years, so I always welcome an opportunity to offload files to an external hard drive. It's also worthwhile mentioning that the drive is very quiet. Overall great product.

The drive was very easy to install, and so far it's been working well for me without any issues. I'm using it on a daily basis for Time Machine backups and for regular file copying. It's pretty quiet, and has good transfer speeds. So far no complaints.

USB 3 not impressively fast and case sometimes hits 90 degrees

got this for my new iMac , to use for my iPhoto library. My original Lacie USB 2 was painfully slow and I noticed that iPhoto now runs about twice as fast with USB 3. That's pretty good but it does not impress me, especially after hearing all the marketing talk about how fast USB 3 is supposed to be. Don't get me wrong, this USB 3 drive with 3 TB of storage is a good one to get, especially at this price point but my super large iphoto library still seems slow. I plan to get Thunderbolt in couple months and hope that Thunderbolt will provide the super fast speed i need. It does run quiet like others have said. The case looks great but is a little cheap compared to my older Lacie Quadra drives which are made of thick aluminum. I've had this 3TB USB 3 drive for about two weeks and was shocked at how hot it runs compared to the USB 2 model. The case sometimes feels hot, like around 90 degrees whereas my older Lacie USB2 has always stayed cool to the touch for past two years. So don't stack this with your other USB drives, in case it hits 90 degrees on you.

either defective iMac or defective appliance

I have a relatively new iMac and recently purchased this product. It never worked. I went through extensive reformatting exercises requested by LaCie's tech support. It took about a month. I purchased the product through the Apple Web Store. After a month Apple would not deal with the product and required that I go back to LaCie. LaCie was okay with replacement but gave me two options: (1) send the product back and they try to fix it and return it, or (2) purchase for $15 an "advanced return" where they send a new one to me and I return the old one in the box. I chose the latter because I NEED the hard drive now! However I am neither happy with Apple nor LaCie about this whole thing including having to pay an extra $15 for a product that Apple advertises but apparently is defective.

This is the second time in 6 months that I've purchased what appears to be defective peripherals off of the Apple web site. The first seem to solve itself when I moved from Lion to Mountain Lion. That can't be the engineering of the peripheral, it has to be Apple's inability to insure plug and play, and therefore it is a problem of the iMac. I'll have to wait to see whether the "new" LaCie drive works. If not I'll be purchasing a new computer, and it won't be an Apple product.

    Low quality ac adapter

Great product!!! A higher quality or better insulated less flimsy power adapter would have been nice, but the one that comes with it works fine.

This drive works very well, and takes up little space on my desk. It looks awesome - the aluminum enclosure is well built and it matches the color of my mac perfectly. The USB3 interface is fast. I'm very satisfied.
