    Couldn't be happier..

I needed storage for my media and iTunes library, and this drive fitted the bill. It's large and fast, but most importantly for me it looks great. I'm a real fan of brushed aluminium look. It's also quiet, doesn't buzz or make annoying sounds and it doesn't overheat even after several hours of continuous work.

I purchased mine about a year or so ago and it worked fine in the beginning but now my Macbook Pro does not read the drive when I plug it into the USB port. The drive is whirling away as though it was working but nothing! Have to purchase a new drive to perform backups on and not really happy.

    Great!

This was my second choice... I purchased a Seagate 1 TB hard drive prior, but it was a nightmare and didn't work well with my iMac.

This drive is a lot more compact and better design... also no issues at all with my iMac.
    Very satisfied.

Great design, really fast over USB3

    • Written by from Farmingdale

I really like this drive, I've had it for a few months and transfers are fast but without the crazy cost of Thunderbolt. Also, it's cross compatible to any computer with USB3, which can be important if you ever need to transfer files to/from a PC.

One minor nitpicky thing is that the metal casing, though very premium and solid, is a bit sharp. I actually ended up rounding the corners and edges a tiny bit with a file myself after realizing that normal wear and tear wasn't taking the edge off. Note to the designers for version 1.01: increase that fillet radius just a bit for us.

    Good backup drive

Really nice drive. Very easy to use. I plugged it in, it connected instantaneously. I've set it up with Time Machine and that was pretty much it. The first full backup was very fast over USB 3. The rest I don't even notice. The build quality is awesome, the enclosure perfectly complements the look of my MacBook Pro. The drive is also very quiet, and very durable.

    Excellent portable drive

I'd recommend this drive to anyone who travels often and needs to work with large files. I'm an amateur travel photographer and you can imagine just how much storage space I need. I've got two drives like this that I take with me on trips. It's usually enough to backup 7-10 days' worth of work. When I get home, I move the data across to my iMac and process it. USB 3.0 certainly helps. File transfers don't take much time anymore.

    Awesome device, But....

    • Written by from Macungie

Ok, the look and operation of the drive is spot on with my mac book pro look. It's whisper quiet, sleek and low profile. A big must own for portable users from me... Now the con. The device has a Micro B input, and there are no Lightning to Micro USB cables out there. So for us non-USB 3.0 people (Mac Book Pro Lat 2011 for me) I have to either suffer with 2.0 speeds or come up with a lightning to USB adapter that will work for this.

Been through 2 LaCie P'9223's in one month!

    • Written by from Bethesda

My first LaCie P'9223 only lasted for seconds before it failed. Within a few hours I was back at the Apple Store to return the drive for another - figuring I just got a lemon. The seond P'9223 lasted about a month before it too suffered a mechanical failure. The drive is now back at LaCie who is trying to recover the data off the drive. They do not cover this in their warranty - and it can cost upwards of $1200 for data recovery. A third LaCie is on its way to me for free from the company (per the warranty), but I will not use it for any data that I can't live without.

The drive performs as advertised. The speed with USB 3 is amazing. It's quiet, and well made. The unit came with all the cables. I use it with Time Machine. No qualms so far. I'd recommend this drive to anyone who needs a reliable and easy to use drive.

    Disappointed...

Had this hard drive for 4 months before it burnt out and left me hanging. Luckily I had an older hard drive running additional backups or I'd be lost. I also dislike how the cable connection is on the side close to the front of the drive as opposed to the back as you find with most other portable hard drives. This makes it hard to store/stack with other hard drives and you've got a loose cable sticking out the side.
