    Works great, very satisfied.

It's great to have that much storage in such a compact pocket hard drive. I really like its design, and the solid feel is very comforting. It works very well. File transfers between my MacBook and this drive are very fast, and there's rarely any noise.

    Just what I needed

I don't have all that much data that's drop-dead sensitive, but there's enough of it to where I'm glad that I can both keep it secure (which I can do with the military grade encryption software that comes on the drive), and keep a backup copy in the cloud, too (on the Wuala storage system, which is encrypted as well).

This hard drive is very good. Going 1 year strong so far. Works well with Time Machine. Very fast transfer speeds through USB 3 and no noise at all.

Honestly, I'm not sure what's not to like in this drive. It works very well with my macbook and fits neatly into my laptop bag. It was easy to set up, has fast transfer rate, excellent design and outperforms my other portable USB 3.0 drive considerably.

Weighing in at 8.5 oz. the Porsche P'9223 1TB drive is a great backup drive to slip into your laptop bag. I have mine setup as a backup boot drive and Time Machine backup as two separate partitions for my MacBook Air. I am really pleased with this unit.

I love this drive. It's compact, and looks great next to my MacBook Pro. I have had it for a while now, and think the world of it. It does its job wonderfully. I use it mainly with Time Machine. It was simple to install, and has very fast transfer rates.

    Horrible horrible horrible device

    • Written by from Knoxville

From day one this drive never worked with Time Machine. Constant messages about "improper ejection" and not "mounting." Backups failed more than not and every time I logged in I had to plug and unplug and replug. What a horrible, horrible, horrible device.

    Great backup for my Mac

I love this drive. It's really fast, the design is outstanding, and matches my Mac perfectly. The drive works nicely, I often carry it around in my handbag with no issues. It's totally quiet, and is very easy to set up and use.. I also enjoy using the cloud service that comes complimentary with the drive.

Does not live up to the standards of the brand

Porsche is known for great design, while the design is pretty nifty; the unit is way too loud. This is the backup for my studio. It is the most audible item on my desk. It defeats the purpose of having a noise free computer. LaCie is studio grade quality, but this is just pathetic. I am appalled by this unit. The noise interferes with the mixing process.

This drive is fit for the pit.

    C'mon LaCie, get it together!!

    Excellent Portable Drive

I carry this drive around with me all day, and often leave it unattended in the office, and for me the looks and compact size come second fiddle to USB 3.0 speeds and the encryption software that is on-board this device.

    Great little hard drive!

    • Written by

I've recently purchased a MacBook Pro and was looking for a drive so that I could back it up. I've thoroughly researched the available options, since I needed something that would look well with Apple design. In the end, I opted for this drive because it was designed for Mac, and because it had good reviews. I've also asked some of my friends and colleagues who had experience with LaCie and this drive was highly recommended by two independent people. In a nutshell, I haven't been disappointed. This is an incredibly well designed, sleek and speedy little hard drive. It was easy to setup and it worked with the Time Machine right away. It's been more than a year since I got it and I haven't encountered any problems so far.

    Looks great; won't last

    • Written by from San Francisco

Bought two of these drives—first one some 15 months ago; the second one a little over a year ago. They have received less than average use during this time. The first drive no longer mounts--tried it on my MBP 17 (early 2011), MBP Retina (spring 2013), and MBAir (fall 2013)--and is no longer recognized by Disk Utility (luckily I do weekly ups of all my external drives). Contacted LaCie support, and they first questioned that anything is wrong with the drive; after some back and forth they offered to replace it with a "refurbished" drive. I would have preferred a new drive, so I declined. The second drive is showing early signs of wear (based on DriveDX report and test), so I'm not holding my breath that this one will last much longer. Using G-Technology drives going forward (which in my office have proven to have better shelf-life than these LaCie drives).

Great. Sleek and fast. The setup was easy and now, backups run like a charm with Time Machine, and there's still plenty of room for other files.

This is a nice piece of hardware, it feel and looks solid and tough. It's easy to use, a simple plug-and-play. Good size, doesn't take up much space and can be carried in the laptop bag without any troubles. It's good value, too.

    Broken in 9 months

    • Written by from Redwood City

I had problems with the drive 6 months in that required a 2 hour visit to the Apple Store and now, 9 months after I purchased the drive, it has completely failed. Although the product comes with a two year warranty, it should be noted that my warranty repair through LaCie will not be free - I will either pay to ship the unit to the company and wait weeks for the repair or I will have to pay a replacement fee in order to get a new unit shipped immediately.

Owning the drive and seeking a repair has been a gigantic headache and I wish I had gone with another brand. My advice: pay the extra money to get a better drive.

It's neat that there's a whole 1 TB of storage in a package that has the approximate footprint of a 3x5 index card, plus a little extra when you throw in the 10 GB of online cloud storage that LaCie provides with the product. That little bit extra has its uses, especially when you want to make data available to clients or coworkers.

    Works great with my MBP

    • Written by from Dartmouth

Read some reviews on hard drives before I made my decision. Ended up going with a LaCie. Very happy with the product. I liked the price, the LOOK!, the storage capacity. It's USB powered which is always good. Very quite, even when the HDD is working. 4 sticky legs come in the package and you put them on each corner of the hard drive, so it's not actually sitting on the aluminum case but it appears to because the tiny squishy "legs" are probably about 1mm tall lol.. This adds to the cool effect I felt.

Lot's of pre loaded software. -Wuala an online storage/cloud service (5GB free), -works seamlessly with Time Machine, -also a program to partition what portion can be used with HTFS or Journaled great for people who use both OS X and Windows (Like me for school vs. me having a Mac at home), high security software to encrypt files on the LaCie, and more.

Can't go wrong with this. I suggest buying this because I feel the price is good for 1TB and the name, look, and extra software are the cherry on top

The drive has a solid feel, and it matches perfectly the design of my MacBook Pro. The USB 3.0 significantly cut my backup time, and the Eco mode makes it excellent for working off the grid with my laptop.
