    ok hardware, useless software

    • Written by from New Malden

A colourful 32GB USB flash drive. I bought it for two reasons, I thought I'd be less likely to loose it, due to it's bright colour, and because the box offers 32GB online backup storage.

The flash key is fine, although the finish is rough n ready and looks as if it's been finished in a school metal workshop. The software I found disappointing and a waste of time, to say the least.

Registering for the online backup storage was a bizarre: the window for registering the product said registration failed, also that the Lacie product code on the box for online storage was invalid. Then 2 mins later LaCie emailed me saying the account had in fact been setup! I attempting login, only to be given an 50 digit failure code without explanation. I'm unable to reset or create a new account with my email address. There is little support from LaCie.

If you want a colourful 32GB usb key, it's ok. Just don't even think of using LaCie software.

    CAUTION before purchasing

My second LaCie, including my fairly new 32GB RuggedKey stopped mounting. It started not reading regularly recently - and now it is just dead. Perhaps a waste of money.

    FDAILED DATA TRANSFER

    • Written by from Gloucester

When I purchased this drive I forgot LaCie has no history of flash thumb drives. Grosso modo, transfered several times 18 Gb worth of files, and failed multiple times:

    - Drive overheated- very warm to the touch, never saw this in any 32 Gb drive ever
    - Drive failed to copy files (previously on Sandisk drives themselves)
    - Drive self disconnects - again, when testing larger data transfer.

I would give it 0 stars but there is no zero. I do no believe I got a lemon, as flash technology is known to be good in very few models- even then relative to the sophistication of the flash controller. this Lacie fails and the worse thing for a drive is data transfer failure. Speed is irrelevant.

Fool me twice, shame on me

I to loved ther design of this unit, but after the second unit I purchased started to fail, I have become disenchanted with the pretty face. It mysteriously stopped working in two (not one, two) separate desktop PCs when plugged into the front USB Port at exactly the same time. Worked when I contorted and plugged it in to the rear port, but not the front. Less power in the front was the issue, according to tech support and so no warranty. Why did it work for 6 months and then stop. Sounds like weak and failing components, not a PC issue. I won't make this mistake again.

Loss of data, waste of time, money and nerves!

    • Written by from Endicott

After first unit stopped mounting, I thought this may have been a defective unit. I exchanged it without much problem. The second unit that they shipped to me stopped working too. Both times I lost data because it happened unexpectedly. They send me a new one, which stopped working too. I had to ask for my money back. All three of the units would become very hot quickly when plugged into USB 3.0 port of my desktop or laptop.
