Unable to transfer file over 10 GB

The speed of this flash drive is very very fast, 10 GB within 1 - 2 mins. However the amount of heat it produced is enormous!! I tried to transfer a 25 GB Blue Ray movie on to it. It says that it ll only takes 5 mins. Then after 2 mins, after it transfer around 10 GB, it flash drive is overheating so it stop automatically then ejected itself 1 min later. I can almost fry egg on it LOOOL. I tested it several times, it seems that u have to keep the file size smaller than 10 GB or it won't be able to finish the job without overheating

    A durable USB key

I have lost data on a thumb drive before purely from age and dust getting into the device. After buying the Rugged Key I hope all of those experiences are gone. The device has a rubber casing all around, protecting it from humidity, dust and other elements. I also like to be able to carry this on my keychain, so I'm never searching for it.

I am very happy with this drive. It easily attaches to my keys and the rubber encasing means that I don't have to worry about the drive getting scratched or worse, losing data if the drive is dropped. I even like its secondary use as a keyring, much nicer than a generic USB drive anyway.

I am so happy to see USB 3.0 capabilities on a thumb drive. I am even more impressed with the 1:1 cloud storage that LaCie are offering. I know that I can transfer key data to my 32 GB key and still have 32 GB available on the cloud. This is clearly my favorite USB key to date.

I've used a Corsair Survivor drive for years and was in the market for a new thumb drive. I decided to give the Lacie a try. Good read/write speeds, small and light. A little annoying that the drive itself is attached to the key chain as my keys constantly are in the way when I need to use the drive which results in having to remove the drive from my keychain in order to use it. No, I really don't want to carry a USB extension around in my pocket. The software is pretty useless. Also I see some comments about file size. The drive is formatted as FAT32 in order for it to work on Mac and PC, however that does limit your max file size to 4GB. Therefore if you want to store files larger than 4GB there are work arounds for that but formatting the drive to something else is easier, unless you do need to access it on Mac and PC.

I'm in love with this little key

    I LOVE THIS:

    - It's small
    - It's portable
    - It's extremely fast (3.0)
    - It has huge capacity (32 GB means a 50% increase for my 64 GB Mac Air)
    - It's sturdy (with the rugged protection it can fall from 100mts and it's resistant to heat, cold and water)

... and listen to this... it comes with ANOTHER 32 GB for free at Wuala.com (regular free accounts are 5 GB).

Can you ask for more? It's no so crazy expensive and if you look for more GBs in a very small space (32 GB in a pendrive + 32 GB online), it's a WIN-WIN.

    Fast but overheats

The drive is a lot larger and bulkier than you would think, most of that being the more or less useless and easy to lose rubber sleeve.

The plus: The drive is FAST. Really really fast.

The minus: Can't transfer large amounts of data. Any copy operation over 4GB or so results in the transfer failing once the drive overheats. It gets very hot during this, and then stops transferring data. You have to wait for the copy to timeout, unplug the drive, and plug it back in again. Then you have to try again, this time in smaller amounts.

I contacted LaCie customer support and they replaced the drive for me. The replacement does exactly the same thing. At this point, I'm going to chalk it up to a fundamental flaw.

The drive works great, as long as you're not moving too much data around at a time. I was hoping to use it for bulk transfers and it is not suitable for that.

Awesome flash drive. 32 GB is plenty of room. Exactly what I needed. The drive is very sturdy and seems to be very reliable judging from the experience I have with it (four months of intense usage). The transfer speeds are outstanding. Would defiantly recommend it to anyone!

    ok hardware, useless software

A colourful 32GB USB flash drive. I bought it for two reasons, I thought I'd be less likely to loose it, due to it's bright colour, and because the box offers 32GB online backup storage.

The flash key is fine, although the finish is rough n ready and looks as if it's been finished in a school metal workshop. The software I found disappointing and a waste of time, to say the least.

Registering for the online backup storage was a bizarre: the window for registering the product said registration failed, also that the Lacie product code on the box for online storage was invalid. Then 2 mins later LaCie emailed me saying the account had in fact been setup! I attempting login, only to be given an 50 digit failure code without explanation. I'm unable to reset or create a new account with my email address. There is little support from LaCie.

If you want a colourful 32GB usb key, it's ok. Just don't even think of using LaCie software.

I wanted something small and sturdy. With high capacity, and that can fit easily on a key-chain. This drive fits the bill perfectly. It seems really solid, and the transfer speeds are excellent with USB 3. Simply the best USB flash drive I've ever had!

Looks really cool and is very durable. I've been carrying it around on my key-chain for a couple of months now, and it's been working perfectly. The design is nice aesthetically, yet very practical at the same time. I like the fact that unless you look really closely, the rubber sleeve doesn't make it look like there's a USB drive inside. I'm very pleased so far.

I like the peace of mind the RuggedKey gives me, even though it's not very likely that I'll be using it in a searing desert or where it's icy cold. What attracted me was the two-year warranty, the ability to encrypt data, and the ability to keep a secure copy on the cloud. Apart from that the drive is reliable and effortless.

I don't know how many other USB drives would have survived a 6-story drop from a hotel balcony (don't ask), but this RuggedKey's bright orange jacket made it very easy to find it on the lawn below my room. And it's still going strong!

Monster Transfer Speeds and Solid Design

I have two drives like this. Both work seamlessly. They are impressively fast, even on a USB2 bus. One of the drives has actually survived a watery adventure when my overenthusiastic friends threw me into a swimming pool at my birthday party. My RuggedKey, which was in the pocket of my jeans (and held plenty of photos and several gigabytes of videos) worked just fine following that. The cap is indeed waterproof..

My second LaCie, including my fairly new 32GB RuggedKey stopped mounting. It started not reading regularly recently - and now it is just dead. Perhaps a waste of money.

This is my first 32GB flash drive. There's plenty of storage, and the speeds are just out of this world. I use it with USB3 port on my new MBP, and it works seamlessly. It's also well built. I like that it has a rubber cup. It feels very secure. So, as far as the functionality and design goes I give this drive 5 stars.
