Most awesome earphones I have owned!

    • Written by from Sedalia

I am an individual who struggles with comfort in earphones, and I enjoy listening to meditation tapes as I fall asleep. I had a chance to review these for Amazon when they first came out, and these are now the only ones I will use!

I have slept in them as long as six hours (on my side) with total comfort.

But how do they sound? Like sitting in a perfect seat at an orchestra! These are so sensitive, I can tell the difference between cheap CDs I imported into iTunes on my laptop, and high quality files.

I particularly enjoy the shape of the control on the cord, the indent makes it easy and intuitive to use, you always can tell which button you are using, whether simply adjusting the sound, or answering the phone.

I have had no problems with the other party hearing me clearly when I use them.

Best of all, the wonderful cord never tangles.

I don't normally "gush" over products, but these are worth talking about.

Decent value and sound- cord to noisy for working out.

    • Written by from Seattle

I found those headphones to have good sound quality for the price with great mid tones and decent treble and bass (not overpowering).
The build quality is nice too.
However, the fabric covered tangle resistant cord that comes with these transfers friction/impact sound to your ears very efficiently. If you tap on the cord with your finger tip it sounds like a bass drum. If your slide your finger along the cord it sounds like a snare drum. If you run with the cord moving about your apparel it will generate muted bass and snare drum sounds constantly. They have no clip to secure the cord that might help in this regard, but not enough I think.
I have observed cord generated sound in other headphones, but never as severe as with these ones. I need to take them back as they just won't do for me using them to workout. Others using them for more static listening might totally appreciate them.

    Wonderful Quality

I've finally found headphones that fit (and actually stay in) my ears! A lot of headphones that I've used in the past become uncomfortable after wearing them for only a few minutes, but that definitely doesn't happen with these. One of the things that I like most about this product is the fabric cast around the cord/wire; I'm not always completely careful with my headphones and so they usually break quite quickly, but the protective coat around the wire prevents the headphone from breaking or stretching.
This is the first pair of in-ear noise insulating headphones that I've ever used and I wasn't entirely convinced that the in-ear headphones would be as effective as the larger sound cancelling headphones, but these definitely are. They also are very convenient to use out in public because even if you are playing loud-ish music, not much of the noise escapes and you won't bother anyone around you!

    Could be great but....

    • Written by from Cardiff by the Sea

Sound quality and comfort is very good but only if you stay perfectly still all the time! Try to turn your head, walk or much worse run and you will hear the loud noise of the cord moving around right in your ear which is extremely annoying to say the least. After one walk on the beach, they are going back to the store.

    Problems with microphone echoing

    • Written by from Vancouver

The sound performance of these headphones was great, but I also wanted the functionality of the microphone for phone calls - I conduct much of my business on the go. A number of times I was told that the caller on the other end of the conversation could hear an echo. I replaced the original set that I purchased and was still told the same thing.

I'm not quite sure why this is happening but I have to return these headphones, the echo issue cannot be tolerated. Unfortunate, the sound quality is pretty good through the earphones.

These headphones worked well for a couple of months, but then the right side ear bud ceased to function. I thought for $50 that I might get more then a couple of months use...

I received as present. Love them. Do not agree they are not good for working out. Work out every other day- weights and elliptical without any problems. Do not get feedback touching cable. My guess is the one with the problem is a one off and not typical.

I loved these while the worked, but I am now the third reviewer to report complete failure of the right side speaker after only a couple of months of use.

    Regarding the noisy cords...

    • Written by from New York

I also found the "rustling" cords very annoying. I think I got around this problem by switching the rubber tips (i.e., the parts that stick in your ear) to smaller ones. They're less tight in my ear and this seems to reduce the noise. Note that the earphones come with a set of ~12 rubber tips and they're not all the same size.

Having gotten around this problem, the sound is really good and deep, and the sound insulation is quite good.

Decent sound, terrible quality and construction

    • Written by from Boulder

I bought a pair of RHA noise-isolating headphones a few months ago and have been disappointed with them from the beginning. While the sound quality is acceptable for headphones in this price range, the mic has never worked with any device (it produces an echo) and the playback buttons were fickle and didn't work all the time. The last straw was when the audio went out in the right earbud after just 3 months of light use.

I initially was drawn to this pair of headphones b/c of the woven material that doesn't knot up, but I quickly discovered it gets dirty instantly and is impossible to clean.

I recommend steering clear of this manufacturer.

    Questionable Quality

    • Written by from Mountain View

    That was quick...

It took less than three weeks under light-to-medium usage to render the left speaker inaudible. The root cause seems to be a disconnection at the site of the left ear, probably due to defective soldering. While walking, the left channel just faded away to silence. It just happened about 15 minutes ago, so my rage is fresh. Poking at the left phone made it come back to life but stayed dead afterward.

Aside from that, they sound great even without using a headphone amplifier. Great earphones for portable media (as long as they don't die).

    Horrible Cable

These headphones sound great as long as you don't move an inch or touch the cable - incredibly annoying, even for just working at my desk. Returning to store immediately.

Pure sound with noise cancelling bliss

    • Written by from Wakefield

So, the criteria: I wanted a pair of good inner noise cancelling earphones with nice highs, good mids and rich tonal bass. Also a must was a remote to equal Apple's standard in-line remote which I could operate purely on feel without looking with all the usual volume and call functions.

After looking at earphone in the £30-60 price range and comparing specs, I plunged for RHA's MA450i in White - I was not disappointed!

I've had these beauty's for about 2 months now and have to say they are the best pair of noise cancelling earphones I've had. Setup is a breeze with 7 fitting earbud sizes to get the perfect fit. The quality of the aluminium cones and the rubber earbuds themselves are a good solid tight fit and I can happily keep the earphones in for hours with no irritation. The only niggle I have is the 1.5m cord, its just a little too long. 1.2m would have been perfect (the standard Apple earphone length).

Sound wise, they are uber cool. Rich bass on tracks I didn't realise had it there but not only good bass, but tonal too - I can pick out sounds and notes I didn't hear before. Mids are spot on, so are highs notes - very clear.

Yes because these are inner noise cancelling earphones, you do get noise from when the cable in tapped/snagged etc but I've found you get that with all inner noise cancelling earphones.

    A Great Buy.

    Good sound, bad longevity

    • Written by from London

So the sound on these earbuds is very good actually, great bass and treble.

The problem is the earpieces disconnect very often even with careful usage.

I'm now on my 5th pair, I wear them each day for maybe two hours. The longest I have had a pair without issue is 5 months, the shortest, 3 months. Luckily RHA replace them each time as their customer service is great, but it is abit of a joke they are in effect disposable headphones that last 3 months when they cost £40-50 quid.

    Break-in period required

    Physical issues;
First thing I noticed with these earbuds, it takes trial and error to make sure you have the right fit for your ears. It should be snug enough so the buds stay in your ear and that outside noises are muffled. The ear tips are easy to remove but hard to reinstall. That's actually good because it means it won't fall off in your pocket when you deploy the 'buds as you're running for the bus. The cloth covered cord seems to work OK. I don't think it is any more tangle-free than conventional cords. I do like the tactile feel of them so far. The 3-button remote is a little more difficult to operate because of it's oval shape and larger diameter as compared to the flat, slim, rectangular profile of the Apple earbud control. The length of the cord is great and the plastic alligator clip works well. I like the right-angle audio plug that connects to my iPhone. I did have to use a knife to carefully expand the hole of my iPhone case in order to accept the plug. The base of the plug is larger (fatter) than the Apple earbud plug. Some cases may have a problem with this.
    Audio quality:
The sound was incredibly harsh in the beginning, with the 's' sounds cutting through, very distracting. It also depends a lot on the type of music or voice you are listening to. However after about 20 hours of listening, the harshness has reduced a lot. Not sure how that works out. It's quite possible some of that might be that I've just grown accustomed to it. I'm no expert audiophile, but I can usually hear differences in audio quality and these sound better than what I had. I did adjust the iPhone's EQ in Settings-->Music-->EQ to Bass Booster though for the type of podcasts and music I listen to.
    Summary:
Coming from the original Apple earbuds, I'm pretty happy so far with this purchase and would buy again.

    "Horrible Quality"

Bought these to exercise with, bad idea. When the cables to the ear pieces bang around while jogging, you can hear it in your ear and it's so loud and annoying, you forget there is music playing. Totally and completely worthless and I'll be returning them to the Apple Store ASAP!

    Very uncomfortable

    • Written by from Chula Vista

I bought this headphones based in some comments about the sound of RHA and the 3 years warranty (what said a lot about the confident in their own product) But for me the cord it's to long (I'm 1.8 m) I had to put in mi jean bag like 25 cms of cord and I felt very uncomfortable the in my ear, even I tried the different pairs of pads. I give them 2 stars because they have good sound quality (but I never tried the mic in a phone call). Fortunately Apple changed me them so I bought and old know (some Sony or the Apple I would recommend for this range of price)
