On my old setup, my external RAID 5 HD array transfer at FW800 speed / around 70-80MBs read/write. My internal Seagate 500 GB drive on my mid-2011 iMac transfer around 100-110 MBs. Now with the Lacie, I connect my old RAID 5 HD array through eSATA / Thunderbolt - now I am getting 120-140MBS read/write. On the second eSATA port I connect a Crucial M4 256GB SSD in an eSATA enclosure and now the transfer speed hit 200 MBs write, 260 MBs read. Incredible speed. Everything runs super fast and smoothly. An excellent investment if you want to add an eSATA ports and SSD to your iMac.

One word of caution - make sure you use a quality eSATA-II cable - one of my cable was defective and I spent a lot of time trying to figure out why the connection would't work. Switched to a new eSATA cable solve my problem.

Also another minor glitch - for some reason my old Dell external monitor connecting to the second thunderbolt/display port cannot goto sleep - not sure why. My solution around is to just power off the second monitor when I am not using it.

I use this with my Raidon raid 5, 5400 rpm 2tb x4, and I get about 200 MB/sec in most tests. Single drives won't be this fast. Great for nonlinear editing, Aperture/Lightroom libraries and time machine drives.

I don't know what others are talking about but it works.

I'm using a 5 HD enclosure with port mult with 4 drives set up for RAID 0 and 1 SSD drive for cache. They all mount!

I'm using a 27 iMac 3.4.

This is a great product. I bought it to use for editing in FCP on my iMac and with my two RAID arrays. It's been working like a charm. The speeds are great. For me it was worth every penny.

It is working with a port multiplier device for me, I can see and use both drives.
I have the Thermaltake BlacX dual HD enclosure.

The LaCie hub is sturdy and nice looking, cast out of aluminum.

SATA version 2 only, so limited bandwidth for SSDs. A bit expensive.

Installs very easy, and seems stable. Haven't been able to set up a drive as a boot device, but maybe I have to try harder. It's not a deal breaker for me. "It just works."

I look after our company's computers and these are a super simple way to incrementally upgrade your existing hardware to the Macs. Recently bought a bunch for the first group that got new Macs and will be ordering more soon as we upgrade the rest of the office.

I use this hub together with a couple of eSata drives. It's truly plug-and-play, and I've had no problems with it in more than three months now. The speeds increased several times. The hub does exactly what it says on the tin. All in all good value and simply a good product!

I work as a video editor and this hub is very helpful in my work. I can hook up several eSATA drives, and swap project files in no time. The transfer speeds are very good. I'd recommend this product.

This hub works great! I've connected my two eSATA drives to it. The speed has improved significantly. Now I can relax and just work on my projects, without waiting for the "hang time". It's a powerful tool.

Excellent product. Works well, and allows some really fast transfer speeds. I use it with my three drives (two eSATA and one Thunderbolt) and a MacbookPro. It really helps to improve the workflow and get things done faster.
