    Second time's the charm

    Needed fast storage for editing video on 2011 17 MPB. Seemed to work fine until I used it as a source for Time Capsule. Then the drive would self eject every five minutes or so. G-Tech customer support tried their best but to no avail. Returned and exchanged drive next day. New drive works great. Quick, quiet and reliable. Perfect for FCPX.

    I've been waiting for a Thunderbolt capable external hard drive to store my 2 TB of family movies, and to edit them using Final Cut Pro X on my 2011 iMac. FCPX is sluggish with external hard drives, and closed down a lot in the middle of editing, so I assumed I needed a faster external. This G-Tech is definitely fast enough but initially FCPX was still closing down; after the Apple Store replaced my Thunderbolt cable (it must have been defective), the G-Tech has operated perfectly. It's a little noisy when running but no more than other externals I've had. Two thumbs up!

    I don't actually own this hard drive. From everything I've read this is a great drive, but in my research I found something that is NOT obviouse from the usual marketing stuff you'll find online for this hard drive so I felt obligated to make everyone aware of the issue. The drive has an on off switch on the back which sounds like a good thing, but this means the drive will NOT automatically turn off when your computer goes to sleep or when you shut down your computer, like other external hard drives. You will need to MANUALLY turn the unit on and off every time. I emailed client support to confirm this and they wrote back, "The unit will always need to be manually turned off. This is the same for any drive with a power switch on it."

    Just thought I would make sure everyone knew this before ordering.

    Very happy with this drive

    The drive is very quiet. I also have a GSPEED Q..... That was very noisy.......so it was nice to see this drive be so quiet. The drive is very fast. The look of the drive fits nicely with the iMac. The build is very good.

    This drive is great for me as I am a video Dj with a vast diverse music library, and while I run scratch live, along with Serato video, or Mix Emergency, this drive is as fast as I need it to be plus more.
