Useless, in fact. Will not support the weight of an iPad when attached to an iMac stand.

Not worth it. The arm is not stiff enough to hold the iPad 2 the way it is shown in the pictures on their site. After a few minutes the weight brings the ipad down to my desk.

I've had mine for almost 4 months ... I saw the negative comments on here and I am scratching my head. If you don't like it ... take it back for a refund.
Mine works very well ... the only thing I would recommend is not to lose the small black washer ring like I did. I had to replace with Plan B at the hardware store. Maybe include a spare ring with the product???
This is very handy and well made. I love the sturdiness and how easy to remove the iPad. It works perfectly for me and I loved it so much ... I went back to the Apple Store to get another one for work (sold out) :(
Overall I am impressed with the quality ... maybe a little pricey, but I would recommend to others. Thinking of buying one as a birthday gift for a friend.

Caution. Don't buy the iPad 1 mount.

Don't buy the case for the iPad 1. It has a very weak tabbed mounting point between the iPad & the HoverBar and breaks far too easily. I didn't even get it mounted before it broke.

Not the same as the case for the newer iPads which works very well and are far less intricate.

And the HoverBar itself is VERY sturdy with an attractive and flexible attaching mechanism. Beautiful Apple-worthy packaging.

Was this useful? Caution. Don't buy the iPad 1 mount.

This item is pretty cool, after having it for a while I realized to myself. I paid too much for this junk. Overpriced and not worth the money.

The HoverBar Stand performed as advertised. Not only is it an effective iPad stand, but it's a unique way to display it next to my iMac. As with all Twelve South products, I highly recommend this product.

    Solid stand - many uses

This performed perfectly as a stand for our iPad in the car. The stand is a solid mechanical assembly adjusted with an allen key and locks the silicone covered metal clamp into place. The adjustable cable is rigid enough to stay in place through bumps and bounces and can be moved out of the way as required. It held the iPad in place for an 11 hour vacation drive through eastern Canada - you can clamp this anywhere a flat surface exists (or can be made).

    Well worth the price.

This is the first Twelve South product I've bought, and I have to say I love it! This is a great product, and when I had inadvertently broke the black locking piece that connects the clamp to the arm, I was able to contact them and they shipped out a new part for me. Very nice!

I do not suggest you buy this product. Every time I tried to attach my iPad to something the iPad would weigh to much and the whole this would fall. In my opinion this is a waste of $80. The iPad doesn't even float in mid-air, it stays flat on the ground. If you are ok with pay $80 for something that you can do yourself for free (stand up the iPad.) then by all means get one. But, if you are a person who wants your iPad to float then your just going to have to wait for the next gadget to come out.

    HoverBar arm kept drooping

I tried numerous angles and made sure everything was attached correctly, but the extensible arm kept collapsing downwards and not holding the iPad up at all. Perhaps I got a faulty model.

I combine this stand with an iPad running Air Display and I have a very useful 3rd "monitor" (in addition to my laptop display and external monitor). I typically keep a Finder window open on it, leaving my main screens available for work. The ability to place the iPad up in the air and aligned exactly in the position and orientation of my choice is just fabulous. It may seem a bit pricey at $80 but I can guarantee I earned that back in increased productivity within the first day or two!

    Simply Amazing!

Despite it's simple structure, it's probably one of the most useful products out there! It may be on the expensive side, but its definitely worth the investment if you're looking for a cluster free desk setup and save cost on buying a secondary monitor! The material of the gooseneck bar is mind blowing! Sturdy and it won't be budging once you set it in place The clamp has that brush metal feel to it, and does have some weight to it, besides, it's by TwelveSouth, don't be expecting any cheap feeling products from them! The only hard part trying to find a 'sweet spot' to clamp the HoverBar! Overall, fantastic product and I highly recommend it!

Rock solid construction, I have my iPad now floating on the same eye-level to the screen of my MacBook, which itself is raised up off the desk on a stand to be more ergonomic. Didn't experience what other reviewers say as too flexible and not tight enough--perhaps the angle of my setup is a bit different as I have it mounted from the back ledge of my desk. I can freely rotate and adjust my iPad to any infinitesimal variation of angle I want, and I simply tightened the ball-and-socket joint enough to the resistance/pressure level I wanted. When mounted, I keep my iPad plugged in and turned off auto-lock so the screen is always-on. And I love how they included these small cable clips to neatly tuck away the charging cable out of sight behind my iPad. Overall, a well thought out product. My coworkers are all envious of my "Minority Report" style setup.

This thing is slick. I just got mine today and was impressed with the versitality of it. It not only will clamp to your iMac, but anywhere that has a ledge of about a couple inches in thickness. I had it mounted on my desk (looks freaking awesome) and then I mounted it on my night stand for when I got to bed for some hands free use for watching movies or something. The price is a little steep but your getting high quality from Twelve South along with a pretty sweet companion for your iPad 2. Highly recommended.

    Not up to TwelveSouth standards

I own six twelve south products and have been delighted with the quality of manufacture, design and utility of all of them. The HoverBar is the first time Twelve South missed the mark and violated their own design and quality standards. The HoverBar is crudely designed and an actual eye-sore. Putting the aesthetics aside, it is rigid to a fault with a very limited range of motion near the clamp. In turn, the engineering of the flexible arm at the joint with the clamp allows the arm to push backward when touching the ipad - even after strenuous tightening. Finally the iPad bracket is cheaply constructed with a ball-in-socket union that is not rigid enough resulting in the ipad "spinning".

The concept was good but TwelveSouth compromised their reputation releasing this. Its low quality on all levels - definitely not TwelveSouth quality.
