Overlays need work... software OK but could be better.

    • Written by from Rosamond

This is a great idea but both overlays & software could use some work. Biggest problem for me was the overlays... the keys printed on the overlays appear as a dull white color when the overlay is applied to the trackpad, Rather than printing the numbers & letter in black on the keys, they are clear areas (translucent) and hard to see against the silver background. The software installs an icon the task bar which you have to click to toggle between trackpad mode & calculator mode. These functions can't be used simultaneously... it's a bit awkward at best.

If you want to be totally Bluetooth, you may want to try the Apple Wireless Keyboard, Belkin YourType Wireless Keypad, and Apple Magic Trackpad. However, the best solution for my setup was going back to the Apple USB keyboard & Apple Magic Trackpad for the iMac at home and the Apple Wireless Keyboard & Belkin keypad for the iPad at work... live & learn.

    Just doesn't work

    • Written by from Rye

I have owned this product for several years but never got the software to consistently recognize where i was pressing on the trackpad. I couldn't even switch it off as it didn't recognize when I pressed the area on the trackpad devoted to switching between numpad and trackpad mode. Plus the numpad works in only a limited number of applications. Don't waste your money - great idea but hopeless execution. Guess I have to find a wireless keyboard with proper numerical keypad now

Works as advertised - Nothing more, nothing less

    • Written by from Los Angeles

    Short and sweet

    - So far, it works exactly as advertised
    - The calculator function is awesome
    - The programable keys are great
    - Unlike the LMP Bluetooth keypad, you can see your battery usage

    - The reverse out style of the numbers are hard to see in certain lighting; instead of just a one ink print, Mobee should spring for a second print color behind the numbers
    - Unlike the LMP, there are no keys for a true keypad experience
    - The films seem / feel a little cheap (I can see these getting dirty quickly)

The installation was quick and easy. Use F6 to toggle back into Numpad mode from trackpad mode.

In order to use it properly, you need to "click" the virtual printed keys, not slide over them. This will never replace the feel of an actual physical keyboard, but it is not a bad solution.

There are only two solid options for a wireless keypad, the Mobee Magic Numpad or the LMP Blutetooth Keypad. Both have their pros and cons. I find myself switching between both. However, it is hard to knock what the Mobee is. It works as advertised.

Make sure you purchase it from the Apple Store, either online or retail - so if you are unsatisfied you can return in within 14 days.

    Works for me!

    • Written by from Spring

Bought this about 2 weeks ago and so far I really like it. I was even told by an Apple Store employee "to look elsewhere"! I would give this 5 stars if the toggle button (F19) worked both ways. Other than that, I'm satisfied with my purchase.

    truly magic

    • Written by from Gahanna

Before buying my magic numpad read a few reviews aswell as watch some, some were positive some negative but thought I should try it my self because it looks so cool, first I thought my doesn't work went back to the shop and they showed me how to work it and now it has been amazing. I type on it with no hassle and as a bonus works on parallels and can assign programs on windows with the custom buttons, just make sure your numlock setting when you want to work on windows then this product will work like a dream.

1 thing that I would like to change would be that the numbers be glow in the dark so you can see them in night time, but then again how works with a numeric keypad in the dark, there will always be a light on when you work with the numpad

So thank you Mobee for making such a great product

trackpad + a number pad in one. works like a charm for me, every time. I think I've had it almost a year now. I am surprised to see all the frowns toward this nifty gadget. much more practical than the bluetooth number pad, I think, because I get the use of the trackpad as well.

    Just not very good

    • Written by from MANSFIELD

This is a product with lots of imagination, but no substance. I would not recommend it to anyone. Compared to an actual keyboard number pad as on the wired-keyboard, it is a complete flop. Input requires that you hit the keys with some force to get them to work and even that does not work much of the time.

    Works like a charm.

    • Written by from Nærum

This product works like a charm, I've had 0 problems with it. The film is easy to apply, and the software just works.

It's even super easy to remove the film and put on another one.

How someone manage to crash his computer to the point that he needed to reinstall everything, is beyond me. (My guess, he's a troll.)

So for anyone who wants the functionality of the numpad, but doesn't want to add another object to his desktop, then this is a must have.

    Wouldn't work with Mountain Lion

Wished it would work--loved the idea, and really miss the number pad on the wireless keyboard, but nope, it would not work at all with my new Mac Mini with Mountain Lion. So sad.

    Don't Bother

    • Written by from Seven Hills

Doesn't work with most applications. I purchased it to assist with programming, a number pad is very useful. Calculator works fine, keys respond per the application mapping but otherwise a waste of money for anything else. (Doesn't work through parallels either....) A real shame, good product concept but poor execution.

    Conflicts with Mountain Lion

    • Written by from Pittsburgh

Worked OK with Snow Leopard & Lion - as soon as I upgraded to Mountain Lion cursor would randomly drift north & click on every thing in it's path. Only way to stop would be to turn it off. Had to pull out my old mighty mouse. Clicking & dragging on the trackpad would trigger the drift. Took my trackpad to the Apple store & it worked perfectly & could not replicate the problem. No uninstall for the product & I saw on a blog you had to delete using command line so I had my roommate & his girlfriend ( both with PhD's one in computers) try & delete the software from command line. I rebooted but still no luck. I just now notice the deleted files in the trash can so I'm going to reboot after securely deleting them.

Works well but minor improvements needed

    • Written by from Fort Worth

The Magic Trackpad does everything it is supposed to do and contrary to some reviews it works well for me. I find it very helpful when I am "number crunching". There is one small improvement that would dramatically improve its usefulness. In the upper right corner of the numpad is a "key" that turns the number pad mode off. This key should be a toggle to turn the numpad mode off or on. Having to go to the menu bar to switch in ON is a definite pain.

I dont understand why Apple would promote an item in thier stores that they do not test first. This was a total waste of money.... you press a key and maybe it responds several seconds later if it responds at all. I already had a track pad on my Macbook Pro... now we have a very expensive second one!

Need to switch on tap to click

    • Written by from GLASGOW

I just received this and was initially quite disappointed as it seemed too insensitive, I couldn't reliably click on the number pad and get the desired response and felt that I really had to hammer the track pad to get it to work properly. I just went in to track pad preferences and set it to 'tap to click' and it now works beautifully.

    ahh the F6

    • Written by from Beaconsfield

i aslo found clicking on the screen somewhere to activate the keypad was a bad mistake.. but then i went to the website.. and there it was documented...
    F6 will activate the keypad....
so far everything is working fine... oh.. their default 'delete' deletes the number in front of the cursor.. bizarre.. but it can be re-programmed.
i hope i dont have to re-install my os like the other guy...

Works as described; they must be doing something wrong.

    • Written by from Bellevue

The numpad works exactly as described.

I think that perhaps people who are having trouble with it, either didn't expect it to feel like the trackpad (it does NOT feel like the keyboard), or they didn't make the change in the trackpad control panel that the software said to make. Or perhaps they are touching the trackpad instead of clicking it.

In any case, it works exactly as described.

    1. The sticker is hard to read under some lighting conditions. it would be nice if the symbols were black on white, instead of transparent on white.
    2. Many people might not like the tactile feedback- you must click (not tap) the trackpad with your finger on the key. But the feel is the trackpad feel. It might be nice if this were implemented as a membrane or chiclet keyboard on top of the trackpad.
