I read many reviews before spending $200 on this monitor and I am glad I followed the decent reviews instead of the negative ones.

It took me about 5 minutes to setup the monitor. A lot easier than I thought. I called my sister and had her add the camera using the camera's DDNS, username and password on her iPhone. Pretty cool feature.

    Awesome product!

I purchased this monitor a few days ago and was able to set it up to view on our WiFi network in a matter of minutes. On the other hand, it took some research to get the camera to work over 3G when I was away from home. Prior to that, I would have given the product 4 stars based on ease of use and the fact that I can control the monitor from the app. Now that I can view the monitor from outside my home and my family members can also, it definitely gets 5 stars.

Great product and a once again happy customer. Now I know why I continue to shop at Apple!!!

This is not a baby monitor

Although the hardware is interesting (can be "steered" by iOS gesture), the software renders the whole system useless. If the app is in the background, audio is no longer heard. Far worse: When in the foreground and CHARGING on the dock, the app goes to sleep and neither video nor audio are received. This makes it useless as a baby monitor. Indefensibly poor design, and shocking to see sold in Apple stores.

    Do. Not. Buy. This.

This thing has SO much potential to be really cool BUT

but the way it works makes it more of a novelty than anything.

The software and tech support are very lacking. The biggest issue is that (as far as I can tell) the app must be up and running for the monitoring functionality to work. This makes your iOS device worthless while monitoring the baby - ie, no checking e-mail, facebook, etc while you monitor the baby. So as a monitor, this is a MAJOR FAIL.

Because if you want to continue to use your $500 iPad, you do what we do and use your $40 Sony BabyCall and open the iBaby APP only when he makes a sound - saving you a trip up the stairs. Problem is I could have bought any old IP camera for half the price and had the same functionality.

The software needs to be reworked so that the APP can stay running in the back ground and push alerts through - or have the audio continue to stream while other apps are running (like Skype does) - until then you are really just paying double, no matter how you slice it.

iBaby + dedicated iTouch for the iBaby = $400
vs Dedicated video monitor = $200

    or

    iBaby = $200
IP Camera + IP camera App < $100

Until they fix the software, my advice would be to just buy an IP camera and put it on your network and check the camera on you iOS device with an inexpensive App.

Oh, and I almost forgot to mention - it doesn't come with user manual, and it doesn't seem to be on the iBaby website either. And there doesn't seem to be an easy way to watch the camera on my iMac (ie no Software). Another Major fail.

Until they fix these issues, avoid this product - unless you are rich and like to pay double. You can get the same functionality elsewhere for a lot less $$$

iBaby not work properly on 3G network.

iBaby not work properly on 3G network.
When I leave home, iBaby connects on 3G with ip cam, but sometimes I lose my connection despite iphone continue to receive email from allarne ip cam.
When this happens the ree 3G is still working because Safari is working properly.
IP adress is set to static, if iBaby return to the WiFi network is working correctly, if I disable WiFi and 3G active, iBaby not find the server.
I'm really disappointed because I bought 3 iBaby monitor and I'm not sure that I can connect at home when I go out.

Excellent product and is so SOOO easy to set up!! Had this set up in about 5 minutes on PC, my iPad and wifes iPhone. You need to set it up on the PC first with an ethernet cable running from the monitor to the modem / router and then once this is done you need to download the app for iPad / iPhone app and do it wirelessly - if you try to do it wirelessly from the start it will not work.

Like you're reading a lot...stopped working reliably with ios6. Until this is fixed, it is worthless as a video baby monitor. Once (if?) the kinks are worked out, it will be back to being a useful app worth perhaps 3 or 4 stars.

    Not working after iOS 6

I've had the iBaby for about 6 months and it has worked great. Since the iOS upgrade the app freezes the screen after just a few minutes of having the app running. It also frequently crashes. Hopefully this will be fixed with an update soon.

As grandparents, we love being able to monitor our granddaughter who lives hundreds of miles away. But the program does strange things, like unexpectedly erupting into xylophone music and freezing up. Most lately, we are getting a banner message over the home screen that "iBaby is recording" yet we haven't asked it to record anything.

Great concept, poor execution - Very unreliable, would not recommend

This app would be great if it worked, but I have only had it work flawlessly about 5-10% of the time. I’ve had this camera/app up and running for about a week and below are some of my problems.

    1. The app completely crashes randomly about 10-15% of the time.

    2. As other reviewers have pointed out, the app frequently (~90% of the time) goes blank or freezes after an extended period of time. I currently have an older baby monitor still hooked up as a backup and, without fail, when the baby is crying or moving in the middle of the night only the older monitor picks it up. This iBaby app is either blank or the screen is frozen. I have to refresh it to get a live picture but that often doesn’t work (frequently the screen just stays blank). What’s the use of a baby camera/monitor if you cannot maintain a live feed?

    3. There is serious lag/delay on the pan/tilt feature. It usually takes at least 5-10 seconds for the camera to respond to pan/tilt. Also, the picture is usually choppy like your watching the video feed on dialup. I have a very good internet connection (100Mb down, 5Mb up) and all other devices I have hooked up wirelessly (2 laptops, 1 PC, 2 Apple Tvs, 3 iPhones, iPad, PS3, Wii, Popcorn Hour, etc.) connect and stream with no problems.

    3. The motion and sound alerts are very inaccurate.

    4. The website it terrible. Since I first looked at the website months ago, the Owner’s manual and PC software has been unavailable from the Downloads section (and still are). Since this company only has one product, I find it frustrating that they cannot provide proper support.

    5. They advertise use on the iPad but they do not have an iPad app. One is forced to use the iPhone app and zoom in (which distorts the quality) to get a full screen app.

If I could I have returned this I would have. I received it as a gift and didn’t get around to installing it until about 2-3 weeks after I got it. Apple has a 14 day return policy so I was out of luck. This is a terrible waste of $200.

The video quality and night vision are absolutely stellar! We had an iSight monitor and thought that was good until we saw this. It's amazing! Now we would like to start using some of the more advanced features like viewing the monitor when we're away from the house and there is no instruction or support line available. Additionally, the manual is written for PC not Mac and we're an all Apple house. Tune up your level of support and you would get a 5 out of 5 from us.

    Great in theory, horrible product

I was in love with this monitor at first, in spite of the incredibly obnoxious alert sound that you cannot change, and the over sensitive alerts that went off if so much as shut our front door. I liked the idea, and being able to peek in on our daughter.

After a month of use, the thing is a nightmare. Since the app update, the alerts are unchangeable- trying to open them causes the app to crash immediately, and the app store is filled with people with the same problem.

Occasionally, my camera would not work and I would have to hit the search button once, maybe twice. Now it does not work at all, AFTER LESS THAN TWO MONTHS OF USE!

I understand that this product is not made by Apple, but Apple shoudl seriously rethink selling this product on their website. It is a very pricey piece of junk.

    "still in its infancy"

    • Written by from Little Rock

Couple of problems: there is no way to silence (or allow vibrate on a device) the alerts when the baby is moving or making sound, and the notification chime is very loud and annoying. Not ideal when you are at work or in a meeting. I have had repeated difficulties connecting on a wifi when I am not at home, and have had to call tech support several times, although they are helpful - but it's not as simple or straight-forward as we would come to expect from electronic companies. Image quality is okay. Even with decent speakers, trying to "talk" using the speak function is delayed and cumbersome and the sound is not ideal. In addition, the monitor is of no use when your phone is not active - makes the basic baby monitors appear better. Overall, excellent idea - needs some serious tweaking. Would not buy yet.

    UNBIASED REVIEW

Tested against other popular WiFi model monitors. UNBIASED REVIEW:
SET UP: Very easy! Only 4 incredibly simple steps! And if you unplug it to move it, no re-setup needed. Starts working right away.
PICTURE: Not the best, not the worst. Frankly, was expecting much better for the price. Night vision was decent. Good enough to see your baby, but you won't be hunting deer with it.
PRICE: No beating around, price is bad. Real bad. $199 seems much considering there are ones half that price with the same features.
RELIABILITY: This is where it shines! Amongst the other popular WiFi models, it's the only one that worked 100% of the times! WiFi... LTE... Worked every time!
FUNCTIONALITY: Pan/tilt/live feed function has about 1-2 second delay average, but is actually the quickest of them all. Motion/noise sensor was decent.
VERDICT: Received 5 stars due to one lone reason... Reliability. We tend to get wrapped up in features available to us on new technologies. But we mustn't forget the sole purpose of a baby monitor... To monitor our baby. Therefore, if one doesn't work every time, it doesn't matter what it "can" do. Price is high, but worth every penny for a piece of mind!
