    great hardware, pathetic software

    • Written by from Hawthorne

I bought this item in my local Apple Store, returned it after trying it for an evening. The hardware is fantastic - the tilt and pan movements are absolutely silent, there is no glaring light to frighten a toddler, even includes a good quality network cable that is only necessary during the initial setup. The problem is that the software is a disgrace. I could list all the things I think are wrong with it but I'd be typing all night. It's the worst app I've ever had the misfortune of using - it is not at all intuitive, crashes often, and is not universal (i.e. iPad is not supported natively). I can't believe a company that could get the hardware so right would ship software that is so terrible.

    Don't understand the Negative Reviews!

    • Written by from San Pedro

Bought the iBaby and had it setup in 5 minutes after plugging it into the router. Moved it to the nursery and it worked wirelessly without any issues. I agree the manual is lack luster but if you read the positive reviews with tips for installing here it sets up in a jiffy.

    Frustrated&Surprised

Why I can't submit the review on iPhone or iPad.Try again.
It's a surprise to successfully reset this camera with new AppS.Since I was planning to return this device before the customer service told me to wait a few days till the new version launched. It was very sad that the iBaby monitor could not recognize my Apple router but I was not worried as I still could use my SONY sound-sensor for my baby.
With the new version download to my phone,it works immediately!!
It is an amazing monitor! I am watching my baby in kitchen now no matter where he moves on the carpet!

    Quick and Easy Setup

    • Written by

I read many reviews before spending $200 on this monitor and I am glad I followed the decent reviews instead of the negative ones.

It took me about 5 minutes to setup the monitor. A lot easier than I thought. I called my sister and had her add the camera using the camera's DDNS, username and password on her iPhone. Pretty cool feature.

    Awesome product!

    Regret Buying This Monitor

    • Written by from Louisville

I would not recommend this monitor. My wife and I thought we were purchasing a reliable monitor but it is far from that. Takes a lot of time for the app to load up and display the video.

We've used this monitor wirelessly for the past two months. Now it has stopped working completely. The monitor is not found on the network.

This monitor is a piece of junk.

Picture Quality Blurry (but discernible), Video Choppy But Audio is Perfect

    • Written by from Scottsdale

You definitely know what's going on with baby and sitter. Would have been perfect if it could zoom and if port forwarding instructions (to access camera at work or on phone) were included. Need to call customer service (which is EXCELLENT) to figure out how to access from outside the wifi network the cameras were set up in - need to do port forwarding and change the port number of additional cameras.

    I LOVE this product!

    • Written by from Urbandale

This monitor works exactly as promised. The app allows me to access the camera on my iPhone when away from home, both on WiFi and 3G. Customer service from this company is wonderful. I initially had a problem accessing from outside my WiFi network and emailed them. They answered me IMMEDIATELY with detailed, step by step instructions that were easy to follow and specific to my Airport Extreme router. I do agree that the instructions and information supplied on the app itself seem to be a literal translation from Chinese and are almost comical to read. But if you email the company, they are VERY helpful! I am VERY happy with this monitor, AND with the customer service from this company!

There is NOTHING wrong with this product

    • Written by from FOUNTAIN HILLS

This product works perfectly. I am able to connect to it while at work (Internet Explorer, Safari, Firefox or my iPhone app). While in line at Dunkin' Donuts I accessed the cam and was able to watch and hear my wife singing to my 6 month old! I had WiredUpInstallation help with the integration - they were here for less than 30 minutes to put it all together and teach us how to use it. It allows me to Pan/Tilt/Zoom and the night mode works flawlessly!

Terrible iOS App and Tiny WiFi Range

    • Written by from SAINT LOUIS

I bought this because I'm a huge Apple fan and I my wife and I both have iPhone's and iPad's. I thought how great would a baby monitor be for our 6 month old that we could just use with our iOS devices...

I'm a network engineer so setting up the product wasn't my issue (as it was with other reviews) on a 1 to 10 scale I'd give it a difficulty of 7. There's very little instructions and I know most home consumers have a hard enough time connecting their computer to WiFi let alone connecting some monitor via an iOS app.. I got the monitor setup and working (next to the router) but could not get it to connect once in baby's room. My house is blanketed with WiFi (802.11N) as I have a base station and repeater but this thing could find it 20 feet away. The iOS app is only an iPhone app so technically it does "work" on the iPad just very poorly, when the app works at all.

The video quality was superb, even in low/no light, when the unit connects. But it's just not worth the hassle.

I'm returning this and wait for the Withing Baby Monitor, I suggest you do the same.

    I baby

    • Written by from Dallas

The Ibaby cams are great, once you get them set up..the set up of the camera is not so bad. but the set up for remote viewing is very difficult if you do not know how to open up ports in your home router. The online support and setup says nothing about how to do that. I'm lucky to have a really smart IT person on my staff who set everything up. Now everything works remotely on 3g or remote wifi. That is the only complaint I have on the IBaby. I would recommend this product. I would encourage the designers to get better support information on the website.

Great product, but software needs work

    • Written by from Vancouver

I just picked this up last weekend and so far am pretty happy with it. My wife loves it too and we've been watching him at night.

I found the setup pretty straightforward and also had no problems getting the port fowarding to work. I can connect to the cam from the home network, from anywhere on the internet and even over 3G.

The image quality is great, the rotation angles are awesome and the audio quality is good, as well.

The one area where this product falls a bit short is the software. For one, there is only a PC client. While you can certainly connect to the camera via a browser on the Mac, it doesn't support audio.

The iPhone software is very unstable and just shuts down quite a lot. It's impossible to use it as an audio-only monitor - while it's technically supported, if you leave it running with the screen shut off and audio on, it just crashes after a while. Also, there is no dedicated iPad version and the whole app is in pink'ish tones. We have a boy and I'd rather see more neutral colors used.
Lastly, unless I'm missing something, the app doesn't seem to support the audio talkback function.

However, software shortcomings aside, this is a great product and we're happy with the purchase.

Great idea, tough setup, horrible app

    • Written by from Meridian

The idea of this camera is just what we wanted. However, the app does a horribly poor job in delivering on all the great possibilities. The app loads slow and crashes often. I like that I can view them, and control them, over my Verizon 3G network anywhere, we even set them up to watch our cat when we went out of state (yep, he's still sleeping). Had trouble getting wireless to work correctly, and I'm fairly computer saavy. Finally a call into customer service provided us the answer. For some reason you have to setup your wireless network using a WPA (we use WPA Personal) secured login vs. the WEP secured login we were using. However, this did not allow me to view them when outside of our home wifi network. In order to view them from another wireless network or over 3G you have to assign them port numbers (in the camera settings via app) and then use port forwarding settings in your modem to push them out into the world wide web.

    Not great

    • Written by from Nanaimo

We returned our iBaby. Loved the idea and the camera worked great when initially set up. Unfortunately the App was flaky and we were constantly closing it and re-opening to get an image. Then we took it to my in laws and weren't able to get it set up easily on their network. We gave up and brought it home where we had trouble setting it up on our own network. We gave up and returned it. Would like a baby monitor that is portable, easy to set up and not as flaky.

    Fantastic

    • Written by from brisbane

Awesome product. I connected the ibaby and downloaded the app. The picture is the best of any monitor I have seen, no more interference from our digital home phone. Sound quality is excellent, I can hear the children even when they are not in the room where the monitor sits. Picture quality is crystal clear day or night. I am buying another one for the front door for when I'm at work and one for the pets. My elderley parents love being able to see and hear the children as often as they like.

    iBaby Doesn't work wirelessly

    • Written by from NEW YORK

We had to return our iBaby to the Mac store because we couldn't get it to work wirelessly, and we could not reach anyone at iBaby for customer support despite repeated tries. The instructions that come with the iBaby are insufficient which is especially frustrating given the non-existent customer support.

If you don't mind having it hooked up to your cable modem or wireless router (and you have one in your baby's room) then this product might be alright. Otherwise you should not waste your time with it.

Shockingly poor interface and poor connectivity. DO NOT BUY

    • Written by from North Vancouver

This concept of this product is good, but this product is nearly useless. It takes at least a minute to "connect" to the camera via wifi; by then I could have just gotten up and gone and checked on the baby. We constantly have to unplug and plug back in the the camera to reset. One of the primary reasons for purchasing this was to be able to see my kids/family while I'm at the office or out of town, and we have not once been able to get it to do that when I'm outside of my home.

We haven't tried to use this thing enough to get frustrated - like other users - with the iPod/Pad charging/sleeping issues, but I'm sure those are relevant complaints too.

As a monitor, this is WAY more trouble than it's worth; you couldn't pay me to use this thing for all the frustration. Buy a standard, proven video monitor and don't waste your time with the iBaby.

Note that this is NOT an Apple product. Apple should have done their due dilligence in testing this product before carrying it in their stores - it absolutely does represent the normal quality that I associate with Apple.

This is not a baby monitor

    • Written by from Lake Bluff

Although the hardware is interesting (can be "steered" by iOS gesture), the software renders the whole system useless. If the app is in the background, audio is no longer heard. Far worse: When in the foreground and CHARGING on the dock, the app goes to sleep and neither video nor audio are received. This makes it useless as a baby monitor. Indefensibly poor design, and shocking to see sold in Apple stores.

    Do. Not. Buy. This.

    So close

    • Written by from BURNABY

I have been wanting a camera with two way communication for a long time. I am so close to loving this product. This thing has many many positive things going for it. The functions and look of the camera are excellent. The camera works great wirelessly over my personal wifi network. But after hours of trying I cannot get it to work on an outside network. The instructions and troubleshooting guide are useless. In fact it's written in something that I can't honestly say is English. I will be returning it tomorrow.
