    SO frustrating.....:(

    • Written by from london

    I just cannot get this speaker to work on iphone 4S or iPad. The device appeared on the Beolit app for a few weeks but Airplay was rubbish, kept dropping. Made for a stressful listening experience. But now the B&O Beolit setup app does not even recognise the speaker. I have tried everything. I just want to throw it in the bin now. It was a very expensive gift and I cannot recommend the Beolit 12 despite its looks, unless you are happy to always plug it in, rather than have it work wirelessly.

    Unacceptable poor Airplay performance

    • Written by from Caluire et Cuire

    Sound and design are great but the device is losing connection all the time with Airplay... Not acceptable for such a great brand like B&O.
    I'll keep it because I was looking first of all for a portable sound box but I would like to know if it is a definitive mistake of the hardware of the product or if we can expect some patch or software upgrade that could fix the failure ???!!

    Any exchange of the product later on with a new serie? We can dream. But it's a fact: it is not usable within Airplay.

    Great sound, Bad AirPlay

    If you want great sound: Buy It! -And connect via wire!
    If you want portability: Buy something else! AirPlay hardly work at all!

    Not the easiest setup, but awesome sound and that's what is important. 100 watts cranking on a very portable unit. Pricey, terrible setup, but I'd do it again.

    Impressive box but...

    • Written by from Toronto

    I picked up a Beolit 12 at the Apple store but may return it yet -- I’ve not decided. Let's not kid around, it's an impressive sounding little box for its weight and portability. It really sings with jazz and vocal, although that's no surprise for B&O. I played a few "lossless" encoded files via Airplay and I was pleased with the sound.

    Now let's talk abuot the flaws:
    1. This little machine was a pain to set up. I'm pretty tech savvy but this just seemed counter-intuitive to configure. B&O needs to fix this next time because for many people I'd imagine this trouble would result in the Beolit going back in the box and back to the store for a return.

    2. Mild "hiss" that doesn't go away. I'm in a small apartment and when this device is on it has a soft "hiss" that doesn't stop. If it is playing music quietly it remains noticeable. I'm going to try to contact B&O to find out if this is normal behaviour. If yes it's going back.

    3. Slow start-up time. Every time you turn this machine on it takes forever to connect to the network.

    4. No bluetooth or other solution for taking this box to the park, or elsewhere without wifi. I hear people say you can set up a personal hotspot with an iPhone but given how challenging the configuration software is I'm not sure most people would attempt this. I've yet to try.

    I still give it 4 stars because of:
    -airport is stable once configured
    -ability to pull the AC cord on the fly (like with a laptop) and go without interrupting playback.
    -beautiful design

    Not perfect, but excusable

    • Written by from Portland

    Like everyone else, I find the wi-fi reception poor and the sound incredible. Easier to setup w/ upgrade and IOS app, once you have it set for a network.

    Bass is set for off the floor location (bookcase, table top, etc.). If you put it on the floor or in a corner, you very likely will hear too much bass. And upper end clarity is best if you face it toward you and have it at head (and ear) level. With that placement, the sound is awesome.

    For all those whining about the price, I can only suggest you go find something as good for less - it simply does not exist - I guess B&O must know that and, just like the rest of their incredible products, have priced it accordingly.

    Great sound and design but Airplay doesn't work

    • Written by from Copenhagen

    I love the design the weight and sense of high quality. And the sound is amazing for such a little device but Airplay (the WIFI part) doesn't work. It keeps dropping the connection even though other devices close by have full signal. When using a wire it works flawlessly.

    Good sound, but...

    • Written by from Muenchen

    ...wifi range is quite limited, I experienced many drop outs and the wifi router is only 15 feet away (same room). Power consumption is quite high (10,5 Watt with Volume @ 50% on the iPhone 4S via AirPlay). It doesn't shut down when AC is connected and the music is turned off (it does when running on battery). Even shut down and connected to AC is uses 6 Watt. The sound is good for a machine this size. The battery can't be removed so you can't use the Beolit with AC only. Sooner or later this means a new battery is needed (a visit to the service). Also it doesn't like when your WPA2 password has symbols like $ or ?. It takes to buttons (On and then Wifi) to establish an AirPlay connection within 45 seconds.

    I bought this device and two other devices: Loewe AirSpeaker and NAD VISO1 and compared a) the sound b) the handling c) smart power consumption. I ended up with the Loewe AirSpeaker because it delivered the best sound and broadest bass. Very low power consumption excellent design. The NAD VISO1 bass was the best, but the sound was a bit to dark and muted. Not as crisp and clear as with the Loewe. Also the Loewe system was the loudest by far, especially when compared to the Beolit 12.

    If you need portability, go with Beolit 12 because of the battery. I use my device at the office and at home, it works great. I hope multiple speakers via AirPlay will arrive soon on iOS devices so I can buy another Loewe system for the kitchen and enjoy multi-room sound. Works great with iTunes on Mac OS X so far.

    Beolit - reasonable compromise for some situations

    • Written by from Boston

    I recently purchased the Beolit 12 for an outdoor environment that I do not have access to power. It works reasonably well with limitations.

    Positives - sound quality is reasonable, although not as effective as wiring permanent outdoor speakers. Volume need to be reasonably high to get good quality and depth from the music. Setup took about 5 minutes although instructions are a bit cryptic. Works well using the remote app on my iPhone or iPad.

    Limitations - Airplay performance still inconsistent (location was about 20' from an Airport Express network extender). It works well enough but requires a periodic reset of the unit. The unit is expensive.

    Net - Happy with the purchase for a portable environment but would consider other options that are more cost effective or have potentially better sound if you have access to power.

    Great sound but airplay?

    • Written by from Utrecht

    The sound is really good for such a small device. But the interface and airplay? What did they think at B&O. Also the support of B&O is poor. First email the responded with the standard stuff you find on the site the next follow-up email they don't respond???? So don't buy this product if you want a trouble free airplay solution.

    Also you can't set a password on the device which is ridiculous insecure. On a network with more people it open to everyone to use the speaker!!!???.

    Great Sound but this is not a wireless device!

    • Written by from Bawtry

    Amazing sound and a cool looking device - but man is it flawed by the constant dropping of the network. The airplay is next to useless it really is.

    Great for taking around and portability but do not buy this if you want a good airplay device because this is not, it's awful, oh and then there is the BnO software App, not good at all.

    I am going to try and send my back!

    Airplay does not work

    • Written by from København K

    This small music device delivers very nice sound, but the Airplay works like the wind blows. B&O has always been synonymous with good quality – but not this time, a music device at this price level should not have any problems with Airplay which is one of the reasons for choosing this device. Find something else...

    Fantastic sound difficult to set up

    • Written by from Roskilde

    Very satisfied with the speakers. The Bass is deep and powerful.

    Airplay setup is difficult but once done it works.

    The best think apart from the sound quality is the build in battery that lasts 8 hours and charges the phone when plugged in.

    I use the Beolit 12 outdoor on my boat. The batteri makes it so practical.

    Beolite 12: insane!!

    • Written by from Cape Town

    I still can't believe the sound coming out this tiny (heavy) box!
    If you can afford it buy it

    I have used the Beolite for a party on the beach (placed in the rocks: you have to place it chest-hight and against something for the best sound), next to the pool, in a rental where the radio was missing and I watched movies in a hotel where it made for a cinema like experience. Oh, and I flipped over a glass of wine while I used it as a tray and it made me wonder is it watertight? Cause it still works like new. Battery life is insane, clocked it close to 9 hours. Last: incredible sound even with very low volume

    3.5mm jack is to short and vulnerable;
    so I've used the apple connector but it heavily decreases battery life;
    heavy almost 3kg (but it reminds me of the quality :-)
    bass biased;
    rubber supports to reduce vibration and increase stability wear off quickly;
    wifi set-up too much hassle so I hardly use it;
    airport security mistakes it for a bomb

    This is truly an elegant piece of industrial design and of course amazing sound (what else could you expect from B&O).

    It's a BIT tricky to connect the Beolit 12 to the wireless network. I found that B&O FAQ "how do I set up Beolit 12 for use with Airplay" description far more useful than the "Quick guide" you get together with the software APP.

    NOTE: Read and follow the description word by word :-)

    (I have a Iphone 4, Ipad first gen and my MacBook Pro connected to my Beolit 12 and it works fine even though the software is optimized for iphone 5).

    Simply stunning sound

    • Written by from San Francisco

    Better sound than a Zeppelin Air, to say nothing of competing docks; unlike the pleasant-sounding but ultimately flawed Bose Soundlink devices, you won't find dropouts in any part of the audio spectrum.

    If you know your music well (from hearing it on truly high quality sources), you'll find nothing missing; if you don't, you will discover entirely new aspects of your favorites that you never knew existed.

    Setup was a breeze, with the Beolit acting as an access point for easy configuration, then solidly joining our existing network for airplay usage. It's limited to 2.4 GHz (instead of offering 5GHz wireless N as an option), so microwaves and some wireless phones can cause dropouts, but we've had very good reliability of playback.

    What's perhaps most astounding (given the sound) is the unit's size and portability. There is simply nothing else like it.

    Amazing, Works great, also with airplay

    • Written by from rødovre

    If your Beolit 12 doesn't work well with your airplay it's because you have a s*****, and/or outdated router, buy a new one ! This device works great. It sounds incredible, it looks amazing and it feels great. I only use it with AirPlay and it plays very smooth. Also the setup was so easy and simple with the beo setup app. Couldn't ask for a better experience. Worth every penny and with the new price drop it's even more amazing ! Recommend it to everyone who cares about sound, quality and design !
