    Wemo stopped working

    • Written by from Reading

I have 3 WEMO switches, all was fine until I decided to upgrade to an Airport Extreme Timecapsule today. I go the TC working very quickly and have both the 5GHz and 2.4GHz networks working. My Apple TV, iPhone 5 and iPad work well. Plus my Macbook Pro is connected at about 450Mbps! Time for the Wemo devices - I reset them all to default and my iPhone 5 can detect them. Once I have configured them they fail to appear as a Wemo device, apart from on my old HTC desire S. C'mon Apple - it must be down to you guys?

    Does not work.

The app doesn't detect the device. I have to unplug the thing every time I want it to work which kind of negates the point of the whole exercise, being switching on and off remotely. And I paid €50, not $50!! Fool me once shame on you.... You're not fooling me twice. Bad Belkin.

    Firmware Issues

Purchases the WeMo Switch without motion detection for $49.99 yesterday. Took only a few minutes to set it up which I was impressed by. Simply opened it up, plugged it in, along with my desk lamp, connected to it through the wifi settings on my iPhone, downloaded the app and that was it. Easy. The problem started when I was unable to change settings because of the outdated firmware. I proceeded to update the firmware which is ABSOLUTELY necessary if you wish to actually use this thing to its full advantage. After a five minute firmware upgrade the WeMo app cannot detect the WeMo switch. I have reset router, unplugged the switch, restarted iPhone and reinstalled the app. No resolution at this time.

    Stopped working after update

Bought 2 that worked well until I updated them. Now they show up and connect when set up but after that do not show up in the app. Since the app itself won't identify I guess there will not likely be any way to get to the firmware to fix it.

    Terrible product

If you check the communities you'll find that almost every user has an issue with this device connecting to their home network. People report it taking hours. This is not acceptable for simple product like this. What a shame. Belkin doesn't seem to be doing much to correct the issues.

    WEMO Remote Access Problem

    • Written by from SAN FRANCISCO

The first time I set this thing up it worked fine. Now, for some reason, I cannot get it to enable Remote Access, which renders it useless to me.
I've done a complete reinstall. No dice.

Just noticed the review which mentioned that remote access doesn't work if the router is linked to another downstream router. Why not?

Hope Belkin fixeds this problem. Do these guys debug things before they send them to marketing??

    iOS app painfully slow

    • Written by from DALLAS

10 of 12 people found this useful

The app sometimes has to "look for sensors/switches" for several minutes before finding the switch, which happens to be 2 feet from my iphone and 10 feet from my wifi router. Also, sometimes the app indicates a device is on when it's off and vice versa.

    Wish I would've spent the $ elsewhere.

Belkin - please refine the software.

    Just doesn't work

If you can get it to join your network, which is NOT as easy as Belkin say, it disconnects constantly. No other devices on my wireless have this problem. I strongly recommend against buying this. It's not ready for prime time.

    Not Now!

Good idea but not there yet:
    1. You can not set it up remotely. In case your iPhone App crashed (or else), you cannot set WeMo up remotely. No web access, telnet..etc.
    2. You cannot have more than one locations and controlled by the same App on iPhone.
    3. Tech support not good. I emailed the (first) question above, they simply direct me to online support web page, which is useless.

    I am returning my WeMo.

Had to return mine as each time I set it up, it would stop working after about an hour and I'd have to do the set up all over again.

    Not working as advertised

Remote access can not be enabled in a multiple router / range extended network environment. Belkin's servers require the switch(es) being bound to one router MAC for the remote access to work. Premature release of a poorly thought through and developed product. Works nicely when controlled from device that is operating on the same WiFi.

I reallly wanted to like/love this contraption... and based on how many I purchased, my wallet thinks I love them.

    That's where the love ends.

Everything will work well with these devices until they roll out a new app update or a new firmware update. Then brace yourself for 15 minutes worth of work for every device you have. The 15 minutes per device will be used to reset all the settings so that you can once again access them when you're not at home

Mind you. Belkin has updated the software at least 4 times since I purchased them this fall. ('12)

Multiply that time 9 devices and 4 updates and you have the hours of frustration that have resulted from something that isn't cheap and was supposed to make my life easier.

Don't believe the other reviews listed here. They're cheerily suspicious. Check out the reviews written by publications for a better sense of this product.

Thus ends my scathing review. Just wish I'd waited to buy the new Hue light bulbs now at Apple. No wait, I did also buy them and surprisingly, they work!
